Flowers, Dots and Chains

It's still really cold out, but at least we've seen some sun lately. Can you tell I am ready for spring?
Yes, I know, it's still February. Le sigh.

  • Coat - Paparazzi, thrifted in Vancouver; last seen here in December 2018 with a red shirt and blue velvet boots
  • Shirt - J. Crew, thrifted; purchased here for $19.99
  • Skirt - handmade, vintage; thrifted; last worn here in January with black and white ruffles
  • Shoes - Pilgrim Truths, Fluevog; last seen here in December 2018 with a super-shiny brocade jacket
  • Sleeveless coat (below) - Only, thrifted; last worn here a week ago

I planned this outfit around the new-to-me polka dot shirt - it's fairly thin and slightly see-through, so I wanted to layer it under a jacket.
However, I started by wondering which skirt should I wear with it? I wanted to tuck in the shirt (it wrinkles), and I wanted to bounce it off a bright colour. On a Monday? No brainer! Yellow! This lovely wool goldenrod yellow skirt was perfect.

I actually added the accessories next - I really wanted to wear my bow-tie with the shirt - then picked this luscious embroidered black denim jacket next.
 It's heavy - that's a lot of embroidery.

The shoes were chosen last - I would have worn red heels, but my toe said, "Nope, not yet, please!"
"Stop blathering and let me in the hall, Woman!"

I'm coughing after telling Vizzini to shut up - he is a yowler, that one!

Outerwear - it was frigidly windy all day.
"What's in this bag that I can eat?"

I was happy to have my cashmere beret and furry scarf.

  • Beret - Club Monaco, thrifted
  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - consignment

When I got home from work, I thought I'd take a picture of my necklace layered over my bow-tie, which I was quite taken with (but no one at work mentioned).
"You should feed me. NOW."

Cats are so helpful.

The stuff:
I love these shoes so much. LOVE.

Bold bling:
I'd almost forgotten about this massive double-chain necklace. I saw a woman wearing a giant clear chain necklace at Urbanite and it reminded me - I have one of those!

  • Bow-tie - John Comfort for Harry Rosen, vintage, thrifted
  • Necklace - Club Monaco
  • Earrings - Tania Gleave, Vancouver
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

Nothing is more Spring-like than primrose yellow, even if the weather isn't playing nice - come over here, it's gorgeous!
Cats are so helpful, aren't they? Especially when they decide it's getting up time an hour and a half before the alarm is due to go off...arghhhh! xxx

  4. Nothing beats a bit of yellow to trick one's mind into thinking Spring is around the corner! Well, it is actually Spring here in Belgium, such gorgeous weather. I love how you added the red polka dot bow tie AND the massive chain necklace to the blouse, and I'm quite surprised nobody remarked on it! Wearing red shoes really balances your outfit, and your embroidered jacket is quite an eye-catcher. Just fabulous! xxx

I really liked the necklace/bow-tie combo - maybe it was too much for my colleagues.

  6. You're in all four primary colours if you include your blue ring! I love this outfit. The jacket is beautiful, just beautiful. The yellow skirt and red shoes are lovely contrasts and the pin striped shirt is a classic. Loved it with the bow tie and the big chain necklace. I also really like your sleeveless vest outer wear and beret.

Hope it begins to warm up soon for you...

    1. Thanks, Vronni! Actually, there are only 3 primary colours (yellow, red, blue). Green is a secondary colour (made of blue + yellow).

I love this jacket too! The shirt is actually polka dots (you might need a new monitor if you are seeing pinstripes!).

Me too! I'm done with winter!

  9. How wonderful you look despite frigidly windy weather. That goldenrod skirt is so yummy and I really like the polkadots. I was surprised to read that that embroidered jacket is denim.
Nonetheless this is a lovely outfit and certainly these colors should warm up the winter doldrums.
I’m glad you voted and opted to keep your feet comfortable. Yay, toes!

    1. Aw, thanks so much, Elle! Yes, the jacket is a really thick dark denim, almost a twill weave. It has good stretch too. I'm so glad I got it. Yes, going more and more for lower heels these days. My feet are happy!

  10. The coat as always is the star of the show for me Sheila. I love the ornate embroidery and also love how you've styled it up. The goldenrod skirt works brilliantly with it as do those shoes - how comfy they look too! The huge necklace is awesome - what was up with your co-workers today that they didn't praise you for this magnificent neckwear? Pah!
