Pinstripes, Pearls and Pattern

Back at work, and it wasn't so bad, even after a nice chill long weekend. I enjoyed my outfit and had fun showing off parts of it to my colleagues.
You'll note that I am featuring my new-to-me Trina Turk dress that I purchased on the weekend, but also a very seldom worn piece.

  • Frock coat - Noa Noa; last worn here (3rd outfit) in January 2018 to see the Pack AD
  • Dress - Trina Turk, consignment; purchased here for $52.00
  • Boots - Cougar, thrifted; first worn here in January with a lot of brooches (a brigade!)
  • Sleeveless coat (below) - Only, thrifted; last seen here in January

When I was playing around in my closet last night - that's the last thing I do before I go to bed - I thought about layering a shirt or turtleneck under this dress, but was kind of "meh" about it. Then I took a quick look at my cardigans (nah, not feeling cardis right now), and then last a peek at my jacket rail.
Oh, heck yes! This cotton frock coat is a perfect pattern complement to this woven dress. Both are cotton, with sort of a rough-woven texture.

The buttons on the coat sealed the deal - they are tan and pick up that colour in the pattern of the dress.
I love the embroidery detail on the back of the coat (it also has some over the front pocket), and you can tell that the back has some extra pleating going on for much pouffery. The jacket is slightly costumey (I've worn it as part of my Hallowe'en Mad Hatter costume, twice!), so I usually don't emphasize the pouf in the back.

Hand in pockets!
The jacket has pockets too - I found a pair of earplugs in them, from the last time I wore it (did you look? It was a Rock Star look with ORANGE LEATHER SHORTS (sorry, they always get caps) - pic here!

Outerwear - it's much warmer now, and I risked wearing my sleeveless coat over this, since the frock coat doesn't fit well under my other coats.
The scarf, toque and gloves helped, and I was pretty warm by the time I'd reached my destination.

  • Toque - Danier Leather
  • Fur boa - thrifted
  • Gloves - Cejon, thrifted

Realizing when I got home that I'd forgotten to take a picture of just the dress.
 Still in my walkin' Docs!

The stuff:
I whacked my pinkie toe on the corner of a wall on the weekend, so I'm trying to baby it (poor little purple bruised toe!). I liked the mod vibe that these boots gave the outfit, and they were very comfy.

Pearly bling:
Once I'd put the dress and frock coat together, the only jewelry that would do was pearls. I love wearing a massive pearl necklace.

  • Necklace - Aldo Accessories
  • Earrings - Aldo
  • Pearl ring - Erth, consignment
  • Crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence, Italy

  7. Fantastic coat and dress! The pockets are fabulous, and don't know why but I love pockets in skirts and dresses. What is that tee you're wearing with the orange shorts? Good luck with your toe, that must hurt a lot!

    1. Much appreciated, Nancy! I adore pockets - they are often the "make or break" on whether I buy a skirt or dress.

The tee is a tour shirt from Frank Turner. It has a ship and roses on it.

Yes, thank you - it's pretty sore. :(

  11. I see you're already wearing the new Trina Turk dress.
For a moment I thought this was an ode to Karl. The pearls, patterns are so classic and just look so modern with the boots. I would have never thought of boots, they give it a real cool urban vibe.

    1. Yup, I always try to wear my new items right away! I'm excited to have that available for spring and summer.

Yeah, I can see that ode too! I liked the boots with it; in the old days I would always have done heels with it.
