Shiny in Chartreuse

A monochrome outfit always gets a strong reaction from people. Do any of you remember when I did a "Monochromania" week back in September 2013? Flashback!
I don't think I've ever worn this silk chartreuse dress to work before!

  • Dress - Mary Jo Bruno, consignment; last seen here in August 2017 with gold accessories (and a lot of cat pictures)
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last worn here in May with the Lady Garden of Delight skirt
  • Jacket (below) - Club Monaco, thrifted; last seen here a couple of weeks ago

Nope, a quick click-through of all my "last worn here" links reveals that I have never worn it to work.
I thought it was too short. Silly me! Funny how I really don't care about that as much as I used to.

It's a wonderful silk dress - I've had it for years, and only paid $10.00 for it!
It was the perfect showcase for all of my new gold bling that I picked up last weekend at the vintage fair. Shiny, so much shiny!

Outerwear - it's gloomy and cloudy out right now. Feels muggy. We had thunder and lightning the other night (a very rare thing for us) - maybe we'll get more tonight!
Such dangerous light-coloured fabrics. I'm always getting lipstick, make-up and assorted marks and spills on my clothes from work. The dress is now in the wash. I will wash it VERY delicately and lay it flat to dry - fingers crossed!

The stuff:
My copper/rose-gold shoes were close enough to gold to work with the outfit. My feet are tired now after a long and late WW session.

Gold bling:
As promised! I loved showing off the Dior belt to everyone.

  • Leather belt - Christian Dior, vintage 80s, vintage fair for $9.95 - first wear
  • Torc - vintage fair for $5.00 - first wear
  • Cuff - vintage fair for $5.00 - first wear
  • Earrings - thrifted

  3. Very stylish. I'd never second-guess any cis-gender woman about her feelings on modesty (e.g., skirt-length) since they deal with an environment (male predators) I don't have to. Listening to them (including you here, as you describe an evolution in your thought on the subject) is interesting because there's no one answer for everyone. Much depends on context, the time of a woman's life, her perception and goals for herself, etc. Fascinating stuff!

    1. For me, it's more about my own feelings of wearing "inappropriate" clothing to the office. I used to be much more prescriptive to myself about what was suitable and what was not, but I find the older I get the less I care about what is deemed "correct" for my age and my workplace. I don't see this as a "male predator" environment; short skirts can be a pain to wear when sitting down or doing a lot of bending (which I do in my job). My environment is more about intellectual sexism (what "girls" can/can't do vs. "men's jobs"). It's frustrating at times, but my clothes don't factor in as much - although, I do notice the tendency to brush me off as not being smart because I like to dress well. Interesting stuff indeed, Ally!

  4. I love all of the accessories with this, you always do it beautifully of course but I really like how well the golds work with the dress.

As someone who wears similar length dresses and skirts to work I agree it's definitely not too short!

    1. Aw, thanks, Trisha! Ha, I did wear my fishnet tights with this, so I wasn't bare-legged at least.

  6. Ah, quite enjoyed looking at all the monochrome outfits from 2013, and admired each and every one of them. Gives me food for thought for this next school year. I'm planning (finally!) to visit The Rummage Room (http://www.fccog.org/about-us/the-rummage-room/) and actually spending enough time to scope out what's available, thanks to your positive influence!

  10. Of course you must wear such a gorgeous dress to work and not let it languish in the wardrobe! The gold bling looked fantastic with it as did the wonderful rose gold shoes and little white jacket.

Hope your week is going well.

  11. It's a wonderful dress indeed and looks rad with the metallic accents.
In my case its quite the opposite, I am more aware of garments being too short !

  12. Love the colour of that dress, and how well the gold accessories pair with it. I don't think it's too short either. I wear short skirts in the winter when I can pair them with colourful tights, and longer ones in the summer when I'm only wearing one layer and getting on and off buses, climbing stairs, etc. It's not an age consideration because my legs are still darn good!

    1. I really love this dress, always have. Thanks for the vote of confidence on the length - I like my legs too, and as my face gets wrinklier, I'm gonna show my legs more! We shall rock on!
