Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up Plus Monday: Ultimate Chartreuse, Dottin' on the Ritz, Shopping Day and Amethyst Leather

My apologies - I hadn't intended on skipping my regular bigass weekend post, but by the time I got home from shopping with Yvonne, our "recovery drinks" had done me in. I conked out on the couch for the evening.

So today, you get the bigass wrap-up, plus Monday's outfit, PLUS a ton of cat pictures. If this is what you came for, read on. (If you came just for the cat pictures, then scroll down).

Let's start with Saturday's Outfit for Ulty.
Don't feel like thinking. I'm wearing a dress.

  • Dress - Cici; last seen here (3rd outfit) in July 2015 with magenta
  • Shoes - Modern Vintage, thrifted; last worn here a week ago with mustard and leather

This was easy enough to change out of and back into after our game. Unfortunately, I tweaked my quad (thigh) and limped through most of the game. I'm going to have to baby that this week, and hopefully I'll be able to play again on Saturday. It was not fun.
I didn't get much wear out of this dress last year because it was just too darned hot last summer! I only wore it twice in 2015 (it's packed away for fall/winter - it doesn't layer well), and this might be the last of it after this summer. Although it's handmade in Vancouver, it's not a great fabric and it's starting to pill a big in areas. Bummer, as I love the colour and having sleeves.
It was a bit overcast earlier in the day, so I wore my yellow leather.

The stuff:
Easy shoes for after the game.

Gold bling:
I get a giggle out of wearing Givenchy to the sports field.

  • Belt - thrifted
  • Necklace - Givenchy, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Earrings - thrifted

After brunch, I rushed home and got ready for the theatre. Mom and I had our Saturday matinee of "Puttin' on the Ritz" at the Belfry Theatre (review here).
Oh, this was a very popular outfit with the "blue-haired set" - there were a LOT of oldsters at the show!

  • Dress - Stop Staring; last seen here (3rd outfit) in September for Elaine's birthday dinner
  • Jacket - H&M, consignment; last worn here in February with houndstooth
  • Shoes - Sencha Teapot, Fluevog; last worn here in October 2015 with pastel plaid

I'm always surprised at how few people dress up for the theatre. Yes, this was a matinee performance but it was the opening weekend, and Mom and I have always dressed up for the theatre - all the way back to the early 80s when we first started going together.

I actually got a shout-out during the show - one of the female performers was doing a little interaction with the woman in front of me (putting a feather boa on her), and said, "Nice fascinator!" to me.
I also heard, "You're really "puttin' on the Ritz"!" from about a dozen people in the audience before, during intermission and after the show. My response was always the same: "I always dress up for a date with my mom!"

A dress like this requires a dramatic jacket, don't you think?
All reds for accessories - one of my rare purse changes!

Vizzini was very excited about the fascinator.
"I'm sure I saw some feathers around here somewhere."
We call this the "My Cat Loves Me" pose.

The stuff:
Shoes I could walk to and from the theatre and pub in.

Simple red bling:
I forgot to put the fascinator in the picture - I was more concerned about getting it hid from "someone".

  • Purse - vintage, thrifted
  • Fascinator (in pictures above) - Funk Shui
  • Earrings - Tania Gleave

After dinner, L and I chilled for the evening with Vizzini, some wine and a board game. Vizzini wasn't too interested in us.
"Can't talk. On patrol."
Officer Vizzini is on the beat! He carefully inspects the neighbourhood. We have a much wider view now that the two oak trees are gone.
"I heard reports of suspicious activity."
He inspects the front corner, then goes down the side, tail thumping on the windows.
"Aha! I spot a perpetrator!"
His neck got all stretchy, as he craned to see...
"What is this? Could it be...?"
Yup, Terry's cat is out on his deck, snoozing in the sun.
"That cat is sleeping on the job! I'll have to report this."
On Sunday, I strolled (slowly) to town to get groceries.
A pretty snazzy outfit for grocery shopping.

  • Jacket - Club Monaco, thrifted; last seen here last week with baby blues
  • Sweater - Lacoste, thrifted; last worn here a couple of weeks ago with plaid pants
  • Skirt - Melanie Lyne, consignment; last seen here at the same time as the jacket
  • Booties - Dirty Laundry, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) for a casual weekend earlier this month

I met up with Yvonne after groceries to get our brows waxed (a girly thing we do together about 3 times a year), and then we walked to My Sister's Closet for a browse who am I kidding, a shop!
It ended up being quite warm yesterday, and I was a little glowy in the sweater. I took the tights off after the 3rd round of trying stuff on.
The stuff:
Easy boots for walking, simple earrings so that they don't get in the way when shopping.

  • Earrings - local

I was early to meet Yvonne, so I quickly zipped into Flavour Upstairs - and what do you know? I scored a new red pencil skirt!
My old one was way too big, but it was vintage, fine wool and made in Canada. I'm not going to replace it with a crappy modern pencil skirt, so I was pretty fussy about finding another one.

Yup, it's wool. And made in Vancouver!
And I can tell from the size 10 that this is pre-mid-80s when all the sizes changed. This is a modern size 6.

It's got pockets, it's a great length, and even better...
It was only $5.00! Score!

We both had fabulous luck at My Sister's Closet. It's a consignment store (where sellers get a percentage of their goods sold), so I expected to spend a little more than when I'm out thrifting. However, I spent just over $100 and got all this stuff below.
A funky pair of silver earrings were mine for $14.98 - these have a loop on the front, and another loop hanging down off the earring back. Cool.

I scored these Betsey Johnson tights for only $4.00.
Since coloured tights seem to have disappeared from the world, I'm buying coloured ones when I see them!

I was thrilled to find a replacement for my black leather pencil skirt that's too big.
It's...not leather! But it looks like leather. The store had a "buy a top and get 50% off the bottom" special on, so this was $10.50.

It's by Tribal. I love the zipper detail.
It is way more flattering on me than that baggy leather.

I made squee-ing noises over this dress.
It's just thin polyester and cotton cuffs/collar, but I love the faux embroidery print.
All the colours! So glorious! This is by Zara A-Mei, which I'm assuming is some weird off-shoot of Zara. It was $18.98.

This blouse is nearly identical to my "fruital" blouse, but it's floral. So...uh, floral.
I love all the Victoria "soft-goth" colours in this. I predict it will be a year-round staple. It was $16.98 and is by Violet + Claire.

I was skimming through some fashion mags at the spa where we had our brows done, and saw that "pajama dressing" is a thing. Sure, why not? I remember wearing an actual pajama top of my grandfather's back in the 80s (it was pale yellow flannel and I loved it).
If you heard a high-pitched noise around 3:30pm yesterday, that was me when I saw this blouse.

It's by Tabi, and was $18.98.
I am dying over those colours, and the shiny, and the colours, and the shiny...!

*ahem* Sorry, must get control over myself.

I also found a pair of shoes. Hey, Wendy, what is it you say?
"Never is the next new thing"?  Did I ever think I would own a pair of chunky black hidden-heel runners?

Nope, never. But I love them. I wasn't sure what brand they were - apparently, this says "Ash".
Oh my, and a bit of hunting around online reveals that these were not cheap originally. So, even though I am a little late to the "wedge sneaker show", I still only paid $19.98 for this sort-of trendy item. Score!

And here we are at today! I promised Ann I wouldn't keep counting my hair as purple in her theme this month for "52 pick-me-up.
Ann, do you approve?

  • Jacket - Comrags, thrifted; purchased here for $14.99
  • Blouse - Jacob, thrifted; last seen here in August in a truly awful outfit
  • Skirt - Chia, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here with just a smidge of colour
  • Shoes - Gentle Souls; last seen here in February while adamantly amethyst

I decided I don't like the blouse, so into the giveaway it goes once it's been washed. I was very pleased with my first wear of the Comrags jacket - the fit is so good!
Why haven't I been wearing these wonderful grey suede wedges more?

The stuff:
These shoes were heavenly on.

Silver bling:
That cuff reminds me of a cheese grater.

  • Cuff - thrifted
  • Earrings - gift from Lise

Go see what everyone's wearing! Run!

Hey, Vizzini, you're a star in "Visible Monday", you monster. What do you have to say for yourself?
"Hello to all my fans. Please send more kitty treats."
Happy week, my friends!

  1. My ABSOLUTE FAV is that black and white polka dot dress. Its AMAZING on you! its gorgeous, love it!!
I'm reading and learning so thanks for your great sharing on here about fabrics and brands. I am soaking it up :)

    1. Thanks, Jodi! The dress is an ethically made one (just try and NOT order one off their website!), and it's a very dark navy background.

  2. i love prints, polka dots, flowers, unique textures and patterns....LOVE IT!!! you rock!......i have an all black cat with a white splotch on her belly. she is sitting here looking at your blog with me, little four legged DIVA!

    1. Aw, she recognizes a fellow diva (can a male cat be a diva? Vizzini sure is).

  3. Oh, olive you in olive! And in your going-to-the-theater outfit, fabulous. Great shopping as per always, love those new earrings. Thanks for linking up and give Viz a kiss from auntie Patti, xox

  4. That second outfit is why I want to be your friend. Such elan! Such flair! Such zest for life!

  5. Four marvelous looks and did you hear my scream ? I LOVEEEEEE the Zara dress and the button down blouses, great finds dear Sheila.

  6. Lovely outfits! I love the spotty dress - very Roland Mouret! Loved the red jacket with it, too. The chartreuse dress is fantastic and the yellow jacket looked perfect with it. Loved the monochrome look as well. You have scored some great finds.

I'm with you on the coloured tights - snap them up!!

Vizzini makes a very good sentry...

    Have a great week.

  7. I see that Officer Vizzini is still in love with "his" new furniture ;) Why haven't you been wearing those marvelous grey wedges? If I could get my bunions into those shoes I would wear them with EVERYTHING - the shape is fabulous!

LOVE your "Puttin' on the Ritz" outfit! The dress is so flattering on you, and you accessorized it perfectly.

    1. Oh yes, we have named the long benches the Cuddle Benches. He loves them, lolls about on them all day. I know, right? I need to wear those grey shoes more.

      Thank you, m'dear!

  8. I don't get to go to the theatre often, but when I do, I always dress for the occasion - why, it'd be rude not to. Your red jacket over that spotty dress looked perfect, posh, smart and very you. Shopping for you is such an easy pastime which does make me a bit envious. Yes, I know I've just done a mega shop, but it has to last me for months. Glad you found a replacement for that big ol leather skirt x

    1. I so agree - everyone should be dressing up! I didn't realize that about your shopping - I am lucky to be able to shop whenever I like.

  9. Holy crap, major score on those sneakers. Also love the last photo of Viz

  10. Thoroughly admiring the entire ensemble you wore to the theatre with your Mom. Retro and sexy and fun and cool! Cheers, Laurie

    1. Thank you, Laurie! I felt like a million bucks in it!
