Heavens, it's almost the weekend! Woo hoo!
I felt like a million bucks in this outfit all day - not bad for a dress I didn't even try on when I bought it!- Dress - Dept, thrifted; purchased here
- Shoes - Big Presence, Desmond, Fluevog; last seen here with my eye dress in September
One of my thrifting shopping rules/guidelines/recommendations (yeah, it's a soft interpretation) is to Try Things On (see my Thrifting Tips post here if you want more info). I did not try this dress on in the thrift shop - I only had a couple of minutes, so I stretched it across the boobular region and my hips. It seemed okay, and because this dress was only $8.00 (yeah, you read that right), I was okay if it didn't fit.
But it did! And it actually fits me really well! It's flattering, even.
I wore one of my vintage full slips under it - the red one - which you can see peeking out at the hem. The dress is unlined, and I needed a big of coverage of the cleavage, as well as some warmth in our chilly office.
I love this crazy mix of colours. We have orange, red, magenta, navy blue, caramel, tan, white, black...all the good colours!
The stuff:
I totally lied the last time I wore these shoes, and said I was packing them away for winter. But I love them too much. They stayed out.
Simple bling:
I went matchy with these vintage earrings, but resisted the matching belt in favour of this awesome vintage suede one.
- Belt - vintage, thrifted
- Earrings - vintage, thrifted
Off to prep the food for tomorrow night's party, and to do our "test run" of our costumes. I'll be back on Sunday with a full Hallowe'en party and weekend recap. Have a happy and safe Hallowe'en, and be scary!
The dress is lovely. Wonderful colors. For obvious reason, I can't try on clothes at thrift stores and have to rely on my judgment as to whether they will fit me. I check the elasticity of the fabric which is the most important factor. Fortunately, the low price of the clothes is my safety-net; even when something doesn't fit (which has happened), the loss is minimal.
ReplyDeleteI love the ruffle of red at the hem! Have to get me some slips in cute colours. xo JJ
ReplyDeleteThis is the dress where you said the brand name is woven in to the print, right? I would be fascinated to see a close-up of that. It looks perfect on you, we'll done!
ReplyDelete* WELL done! Silly autocorrect!
ReplyDeletetrés chic madame!
ReplyDeletethat dress is fantastic! cool color for shoes too and cute earrings. colorful slips are the best - sadly this is unknown in germany....
xx
Fantastic colours in the dress, that's a really good find. I quite often buy things without trying them on - I can usually tell by eye (or a quick measure) if they'll fit, and if they don't suit, I sell or donate them. xxx
ReplyDeleteI usually just eyeball at the thrifts, but if it's a pricey piece, I try it on for sure. This dress is a mega-find! You look wonderful in these colors. xox
ReplyDeleteThe dress IS lovely! These colors suit you so well with your hair and skin tones...not to mention how flattering this whole ensemble is to your figure! Don't ever put those orange shoes away...they go with EVERY season in MY humble opinion. <3
ReplyDeleteI was re-thinking my decision to NOT pack my shoes away when I had read that you were going to pack your orange Fluevog Big Presence Desmond's away. But then I saw pops or orange in my winter clothes and decided to keep them out for winter. Yours look awesome with your Dept dress!
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous in this dress, and I adore these shoes! xxx
ReplyDeleteWhen I don't have time to try things out, I measure the hips and boobs too.. and it usually works.
ReplyDeleteI really like it, and for that price, I think you found a great deal.
