Pink Plaid and Red Leather

For those of you old enough to remember the TV show "WKRP in Cincinatti" - well, this is my Herb Tarlek jacket.
It featured in the August 2012 capsule (recap here) where I wore it twice. I noted in the recap that it required better planning for wardrobing - and it is an overwhelming piece! There's a lot of colours in it - pink, red, purple, baby blue, mint green, white - and mixing it with all colour is just too much. I had intended to get rid of it - I even said in the recap that it was leaving my closet! - and yet here it is. Too good to give up.
My nice white shell got another outing - it was last worn here in a daisy-like ensemble in early May. I have learned my lesson about using neutrals to help ground an outfit, and let certain pieces shine.
I really liked how the jacket went with this red leather skirt, last seen here only a week ago in a pin-up/rocker look. Instead of the skirt being the focus piece, the jacket takes centre stage.

The stuff:
Neutral shoes! It would have been easy to do a coloured shoe with this outfit, but I went with these neutrals so that I didn't look like a crazy person. Unfortunately, the colour on them is coming off in places, but I think that can be touched up, and eventually maybe I"ll just paint them a different colour altogether!

Bling:
Hypno-earrings! And my Wendy Brandes ring. I couldn't resist pulling in a little light blue with my accessories.

Jacket (Tommy Hilfiger, consignment), top (Le Chateau, consignment), skirt (Ocean West, consignment), shoes (Jump for the People, consignment), earrings (Oscar & Libby's), Fulvia ring (Wendy Brandes).

This morning I caught Vizzini rooting in my purse.
He ended up snagging an elastic band - bad kitty! - off my notebook that I carry around. My purse continues to intrigue him; after work today, I caught him in there again, then spotted him in the living room carrying around my notebook (sans elastic band). Little devil!

  1. I actually think the red helps balance the 'loud'. I've learned if you don't want a bold piece to stand out SO much, pair it with another bold piece. Or maybe I just like being crazy loud!

Naughty boy! Our kitties like elastic bands too, but they don't chew them. Just carry them around in their mouths and skate them across the floor.

  2. Gorgeous outfit! The jacket and skirt make a beautiful pair, and a white top and nude shoes really let the colors shine!

  3. Haha Vizzini in your bag is so cute! It's like he thinks it's a bag full of wonderful toys for him! I'm lucky the most Cooper has ever done is nap on my bags :)

Really like this jacket, I'm glad you kept it! It's so nice with the red skirt and the neutral pieces :)

  4. Ha! Herb Tarlek! My English husband has no idea what I mean when I refer to some jackets as being Herb Tarlek jackets. Glad to see I'm not the only one whose mind goes there, when presented with a bold jacket.

Love what you've done with it here, and I agree with Megan -- the red balances it.

  7. He he kitty! My kitties like to inspect open bags too. You have to be careful sometimes I guess!

I really like the balance in this outfit - the skirt is awesome and the blazer is awesome and they work well together!

  8. That jacket is much to nice to be associated with Mr. Tarlek! :) I think you've styled it perfectly here, letting it be the focal point and pairing it with neutrals. It's a keeper.

  9. Vizzini is just too cute!!

I LOVED WKRP!!! "As God is my witness, I thought turkey's could fly" Johnny Fever, Jennifer, Venus, LES!!! Awesome show!!

I loved the jacket the first time you wore it and even more now-i think "toning" it down with more neutrals really let's it shine in all of its "Tarlek" glory!!

  10. I don't remember the show but i do remember the last time you wore that hot skirt. I think you look amazing in it.

I can actually imagine Vizzini going through your bag... does he like make up ? I'm aware he's a cat but my dogs love lipstick.
