Mixed Metals, Leather and Brocade Pants

I have to dash off to catch a bus (and another bus!) to get to Book Club tonight, so this is gonna be fast!
Totally a weather-inappropriate outfit. Leather (with a cami underneath) and brocade pants!

  • Leather top - H&M, consignment; last worn here in May with leopard pants
  • Pants - Piazza Sempione, thrifted; purchased here for $44.95
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last worn here in April with a peasant skirt
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last seen here a week ago

I couldn't just do a white shirt with these groovy new-to-me pants - and plain ol' black didn't appeal either. Black leather, on the other hand, oh yes, I can do that!

Strong positive reactions to this outfit today, mostly of the "you might be slightly overdressed for work" variety.
Screw it, where else am I going to wear this?

Outerwear was totally not needed, but I like keeping my ink covered up.
I don't mind sweating a bit to keep from burning.

The stuff:
Now that my feet are out of these, I really don't want to put them back on (even though they are super-comfy). A full day in heels is in the cards for me. I'm also too lazy to take another set of pictures (or even one picture) with different shoes on.

Mixed metal bling:
Copper, steel, silver, gold. Am I missing any? I nearly wore my mixed metal belt (this one), but took it off at the last minute.

  • Open gold bangle - thrifted
  • Silver bangle - local
  • Open bracelet with decoration - POLY, thrifted
  • Ring - POLY, vintage fair
  • Earrings - vintage fair

  1. I love this outfit and the mixed metal elements. The shoes are fabulous! Also I love that you said "screw it, where else am I going to wear this?" Some days I only do the school drop off and pick up, but I still show my style and wear accessories because it makes me happy and it reflects who I am. The other day a mum at school said "You're a bit overdressed". I didn't reply. That's why it was great to see your "screw it" comment!

  3. Hi Sheila,
You are rocking the outfit, and I quite liked all of your jewelry pieces. Its rainy here (just north of NYC some 25 miles along the east coast) and I'm plum tired. Reading your post has brought a soothing smile to my face. :-)

While I'm "here" - awhile ago you deeply opened your heart and wrote about your 10 year anniversary. I was riveted and touched by what you wrote, and left a reply on the post, only to click the wrong button and have the entire comment go off to into the ether. I keep meaning to thank you for your sharing - both that amazing post and in your daily posts, and repeat what I've said before, which is that while I may not comment often, I look forward to your posts; they are like a long distance hug.

Your pictures and words often perk me up, and your style fuels my own attempts to dress as I feel. Thanks. :-)

    1. Thanks so much, Lorena! It's so awesome to hear that others think that too - why shouldn't we be dressy? I love the trousers - I knew you would like them.

  5. While I don't have the style range you do and I don't have many 'fancy' clothes, I've got the 'overdressed' comment a few times. I agree with you, why not wear something you want when you get the chance? Wanting to wear something should be a good enough reason to wear it! :)

    1. Exactly, Mica! I'll dress how I want - and if I want to wear a dress or a leather shirt, I darn well will. Keep on rockin', my dear!

  6. Screw it - my feelings many a day when I look like I'm off clubbing rather than managing an art gallery. Keep doing your own thing baby!

  7. Absolutely top notch! You were so right, not just a white or black shirt, but where did you find that gorgeous leather top? Together with those perfect Piazza trousers and those beautiful shiny shoes... you get an A+ from me. Great styling. You deserve an award for this.

    1. I found the top in a consignment shop - of course! It's an H&M piece, shockingly. Thanks so much, Greetje! That is high praise from you! :)

  9. I LOVE your leather top - and teamed with these fabulous pants and shoes, the look is perfect. I guess I zoom in on anything leather at the moment after doing a post of my own about leather. It's such an amazing material. xx
