Weekend Wrap-Up: Pleather Wander, Black/White, and Cat Pictures

It's been a lovely quiet weekend, full of hanging out with my two guys, L and Vizzini. On Saturday, L and I had to run an errand in Oak Bay (the rich-people municipality that we do not live in), so we went for brunch early, then bussed there.
In my defense, it was cloudy earlier and very windy out. Yes, I wore a pleather dress!

  • Dress - no label, thrifted; last seen here in May with florals and purple boots
  • Shoes - Michael Kors, thrifted; last worn here (4th outfit) in June for a walk to town

After our errand, we wandered back up Oak Bay Ave - it's very pretty and full of interesting shops, including House of Savoy, a great consignment shop that's very dangerous to go into. I only pop in about once a year, or I'd spend way too much money!
Although I'm wearing pleather, this dress is fully lined in black and white gingham, so it didn't stick to me. I was actually "just right" temperature-wise due to the wind.
Added my shades, and of course, I am fully sunblocked, head to toe!

The stuff:
Comfy shoes - I even wore them barefoot!

Nerdy bling:
A few people spotted my Star Trek communicator badge.

  • Dragon bangle - Lazy Susan's
  • Silver bangle - Glee
  • Earrings - gift from Megan Mae
  • Star Trek magnetic pin - MoPop gift shop

I tried on lots of stuff at House of Savoy, but only bought two things. I love this crazy thin sweater.
Skeletons, a spider and ladies' heads. Yes, sure, why not?

I've definitely heard to Jean Paul Gaultier! I couldn't find anything similar to this online, but I think this is a vintage piece, guessing the mid- to late 90s based on the design, which is very typical of that era!
Made in Italy, this is 100% merino wool. It feels lovely on, and is a really nice fit. I want to wear it with my leather pants! Maybe my grey tulle skirt just for a fun contrast.

I liked the label explaining the care.
I will probably just wash it by hand, but notice the wear on the label. This piece is old and has been worn a lot - however, it feels like new! Very nice quality. This was $38.00.

Also for $38.00, I found these fabulous booties.
Dark burgundy velvet booties! I used to have nearly identical (cheap) black booties like these in the early 00s.
All the way around, these are right in style again. They look brand new!

They were marked size 8.5, but they fit like a 9.5.
Not a mark of wear on the bottom - I don't think they've ever been worn. They are called the Ellena by Mia, and the original retail was around $65 for these. A good deal for me!

Both of these items have been put into the "not till Fall" pile in the closet - I'm excited to wear them in cooler weather!

Last night, L and I chilled out playing boardgames.
"I'm just watching for dropped food."
Vizzini chills near us, occasionally stopping by for a visit, but mostly doing his own thing.
"Kitty treats or Mousie gets it."
He's ever-hopeful that we will give him more kitty treats.

Today I slept in, had my coffee and strolled to town for groceries.
Really didn't put in much effort. No make-up, nothing done to my hair. The bare minimum to be in public!

  • Shirt - Banana Republic, consignment; first worn here in May with grids
  • Capris - Contrast, thrifted; last seen here for our trip to PR last August 2016
  • Runners - Dunlop, thrifted; not tracked - I wear them every day to walk to and from work

I am tossing the shirt in the giveaway pile, as well as these capris. Eh, I don't wear 'em enough to keep them.

With my hat.
 Mission: groceries!

Vizzini has been flopping in the sun.
"Curses, you found me, Woman!"
His moustachios look very impressive, don't they?
"My best side for my fans."
Such a little cutie!

  2. Oh those shoes are my favourite, what a great find! :) It's a shame you aren't keeping the mesh top in the last pic as it's really quite nice, but it does make sense to let go of things you don't wear often!

    1. My mesh and lace top obsession of last year has waned, and they are all leaving my wardrobe! I get tired of stuff like that.

  3. Don't even know where to start here! First off, that pleather dress is killer , especially worn with the Star Trek pin. Love its 1960s look with a punk vibe. The Gaultier top is over the top fab and I'd love to see it with the tulle skirt. I think that would be a great combination. And those burgundy velvet booties. My heart be still!!!

BTW, your kitties are adorable :)

    1. Thank you so much! I like to sneak my Trek pin into outfits. I'm super-stoked to wear the Gaultier top! I know, the booties. Eee! Thank you! Just one kitty, though.

    1. It's really lovely - I wish I knew what brand it was. I just don't go to the tempting stores that often! They are a bit more out of the way. Thank you, Elle!

  5. Oh wow that black pleather looks amazing Sheila.
Too bad for the black cutout shirt, but if you are not feeling it its best to let go.
AND OMG Vizzini is just dashing in the sunlight!

    1. Thanks, Lorena! Yeah, I'm done with the shirt. It's just "meh" and that does not cut it with me.

Aw, my boy is so pretty...

  8. The pleather dress looks sooo good on you. If it was larger (or I was smaller) I would ask to be on the waiting list for it whenever you grow tired of it ;)

Oh, you lucky thing, finding something secondhand by Jean Paul Gaultier! That is one of my ultimate thrifting goals. The print is wonderful.

    1. We have very similar tastes in our leather/pleather, Shelley! The Gaultier was consignment, but it is still super-exciting to find!

  9. That pleather dress is awesome. I wish I coul wear something like that. But I miss a gorgeous bum like you have. Very much proven in the white capri shot. And it was very good dtyling to wear the dress with those sneakers. Very modern, very good look.
