There is something so pleasurable about wearing a new item that you love.
I felt like a million bucks in this fabulous bright dress today - I had a lot of positive reactions to the outfit overall. Yay!

- Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog; last seen here (3rd outfit) in June with multicoloured Etro
The dress was lovely to wear all day, and as you can see, I'm wearing a raspberry camisole under the top part, and a bright red vintage half-slip on the bottom part.
Wrap dresses like to go, "Woo! Hey there! Let's show the world your underwear!"
Really, they talk like that.
A hat and a lick of sunscreen was all I needed for outerwear. Hurray for summer!
So, I did a bit more research on this dress. I found another set of tags hiding down the side seam. First of all, let's get this settled: I do have an authentic DVF dress.
There's the hologram to prove it.
The other side of the label confirms this.
That second tag above says "New Julian Two" and...could the last few letters/digits "Y14" mean it's from 2014? Yes! It's called the New Julian Two and the pattern is called "Indian Borders Yellow" - and it is indeed from the 2014 collection.

I also mistakenly called it a cotton blend.
Nope, it's a 100% silk jersey. How awesome is that? It pays to check the seams on the items! I also found
this article about telling DVF fakes from reals - one of 3 articles by a DVF personal shopper, that helped explain what to look for. My dress has the "helper" ribbon loops (for the hanger) just under the arm holes, and everything else looks tickety-boo, so I'm happy to report that this is NOT a fake.

They reminded me of shiny disco accessories. First wear of the new-to-me cuff.

DeleteIt looks even better on you Sheila - what a find too! :) I do find my wrap dresses can try to creep open too - I usually keep one hand on them when walking around just in case, as I don't have any full slips. Although now I write that I'm reminded of some pieces that I kep that came with sheer dresses (I donated the dresses but kept the slips underneath). I wonder where they've gone?

I know, I felt much better when I found these tags. Apparently, ebay is a hotbed of designer fakes - who knew? Another reason to shop in person only, where you can tell by the look and feel.
DeleteI love wrap-dress speak. Heh. You can be the dress whisperer. This dress definitely has a pow factor in the best possible way. And I love how you chose the red underthings. I think I have a DVF in my closet and I know now what to look for to see if it's an imposter. It will say, "Get your hands off me!" as I search her seams.

DeleteJust thoroughly appreciating this outfit on you! You and the dress complement one another perfectly! I have never owned a wrap dress because it never occurred to me to layer one with a camisole on top and a half slip on bottom and simply let the dress play peek-a-boo. Next time I have an opportunity to shop for a dress, will definitely consider this approach.

DeleteWhat a fun dress! So colorful. DvF has an interesting life and past. Her mother was a prisoner at Auschwitz which affected Diane's perspective on life. And now she's married to the most powerful man in media (Barry Diller).

DeleteHi Sheila, Are you sure that hologram is correct - could you point me perhaps to where you found it, I've just received a dress I bought with the same hologram and I'm almost 100% certain it's fake! The stitching is terrible - no blanket stitch etc., and it definitely does not feel 100% silk. I have many DVF dresses, so know what to look for - this is very disappointing.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm sure it's correct - I Googled and researched many sites. Your dress may have had the tags added by an unscrupulous re-seller. My dress had the name on the tag (read above), so try searching for that name to see if it matches the one you bought.
