Girly Blouse

Today's new thing is this pretty blouse. I am not so much into the foo-foo girly stuff, but I have been known to wear ruffles, lace, pearls and such on occasion.
I had to keep my edge with the gladiators! This will likely be my last opportunity to wear this blouse without a sweater or jacket over it, and even today I was freezing when the A/C came on.

A close-up of the neckline, which I love.
This was I think $9.00 on clearance at one of my regular consignment stores. It's 100% silk. It isn't a brand I've ever heard of (Kaliko) but the sizing is UK/Euro. They carry a lot of girly stuff. Pretty!

The stuff:
I absolutely love these shoes - of course, they are Fluevogs! They are so comfortable and I feel so badass in them, haha!

Blouse (Kaliko, consignment), cami (Mexx), skirt (gift from Heather), belt (Plum), shoes ("Listen" Ivanna, Fluevog), jewelry (Plum).

Like Butter - "Mad Men" Inspiration

I don't watch "Mad Men" (I tried an episode and it didn't grab me, sorry, my taste runs more to "True Blood"), but I love love love the 50s look in women's clothing. Today's outfit was partly inspired by that show and partly by this very cool link that my friend Celia sent me: "Mad Men" Yourself , where you can play with the clothes and looks (even body type!) of that era. I enjoyed it, hope someone else might.

Anyway, I had this lovely butter yellow sundress that I found while poking around in my regular consignment shops this weekend, so I went a little "Mad":
Put it with a cardi for work, my bronze sandals, some vintage jewelry, and I am ready to sip martinis, baby.

Here it is without the cardi (just a wee bit too boob-tacular for work):
I felt very Doris Day all day, and flounced around appropriately. This gorgeous dress was only $22. It's fully washable and was so comfortable in the (slightly less) heat. I did, however, find out that it's pretty much see-through. Note to self: buy more skin-coloured underwear!

The stuff:
You can see the lovely eyelet fabric of the dress in the background. Mom's vintage bracelet, and Grandma J's 50s clip-on earrings make for pretty green accents to go with the herons on the cardi.

And look what I found in the side of my picture:
Who's a hot kitty? Inigo is!

Dress (tag cut out, consignment), cardigan (Lucky Brand, consignment), shoes (Naturalizer), bracelet (60s vintage, Mom's), earrings (50s vintage, Grandma J's).

70s-Inspired Menswear

Burgundy velvet blazer (Nygaard Collection), pinstriped white blouse (Vero Moda), brown plaid trousers (Vero Moda), brown leather belt with flower buckle (Plum), bronze t-strap shoes (Aerosoles), gold chain and tiger-eye stone drop earrings.
I felt very kick-ass, yet comfortable, in this all day. Some days you've got to just be tough, and some days you don't. Today was a "be tough" kind of day.

I adore a velvet blazer or jacket (I own 3 and am always on the lookout for more). There is just something elegant, timeless and chic about them. I've owned probably a dozen or more over the years - found this one on a clearance rack for about $40. They're a little too warm for summer, but Fall is in the air...my favourite time of year.

Colourful!

Turquoise wrap t-shirt (Esprit), light orange cami (Mexx, Dots), satiny floral print skirt (Mexx, Dots), bronze sandals (Naturalizer), turquoise/brass bracelet set (some ethnic import store, vacation), brass dangly earrings (gift shop, vacation).
Yep, nice and summery. Love this skirt. Picking out the turquoise/orange in the skirt this time.

Special Occasion - A Matinee with Mom

Rose/green velvet and silk sundress (Hale Bob, Century 21, NYC), green silk fringed scarf with embroidery (La Cache), bronze leather sandals (Naturalizer), copper beaded frame bag (Plum), gold/amethyst ring (Dad's, from Francis Jeweler), gold/crystal earrings and necklace (Plum).
I love this dress. As noted, I got it at Century 21, that huge discount department store in New York (it's right near the Ground Zero site). Mom and I hiked down Manhattan, then split up to do our own thing. We met up 2 hours later, me, frantically trying to get to every department I wanted to see, and her, avoiding salespeople but trying to sit on the grand stairs in the menswear department and waiting for me. Ah, it was great.

I actually bought 2 dresses by Hale Bob, and I tried them on right in the aisle, I was so rushed. The quality of this dress still impresses me, from the velvet bodice (the back is smocked with elastic so it's a perfect fit), to the soft colours and the sheer attention to detail on it.

With accessories:

I look in pain in this picture - and I am! I had a collision with Karen on the Ultimate field which resulted in her coming down on the inside of my left ankle and grating along it with her cleats. My ankle is pretty puffy and sore and is bruising up nicely. It's not internally sore at the ankle, so I think there's no sprain, just surface damage.

However, my calf pulled in compensation, so it's been really stiff and sore. I'm taking it easy and not doing my walk today - don't want to hurt myself.

With the accessories on: I got this scarf years ago, to go with a green dress from Jacob that I used to have (it was a size 14 - I've since given it away). It's a very vivid shade of green and the embroidery is shades of peach, so it's tricky to match with things. I think it's pretty close with this.

A close-up of the goods:

Boy, green really doesn't come out well with this camera. It's much more vivid.

Anyway. Isn't this the cutest little purse? It's soft and lined with satin. It was about $12 at Plum, about a year ago, I think.

And that's Dad's ring. It was given to me straight off his hand, as he laid in a coma after his heart attack. I feel close to him when I wear it - and since the play Mom and I saw was about family (moms, teenagers, husbands, fathers), I knew we'd be thinking about our him. Only appropriate that he should be there.

L joined us for dinner at the pub across the street after. What a lovely evening.

Burgundy & Shiny

Jacket (Nygard, The Bay), gold blouse with gems (Bryan's), brown plaid pants (Vero Moda), brown leather belt with gold/crystal flower buckle (Plum), bronze sandals (Naturalizer), giant gold hoop earrings.
I got this jacket a couple of weeks ago - great colour, and you know I can't resist velvet anything! It was on half price for $39.99, then I redeemed a bunch of my Bay points, so it ended up being $9 and change. Nice!

My favourite brown plaid pants make another appearance - I just love the cut of them. I totally forgot I had these shoes - they were hidden behind my short-hang section of skirts in the closet (to make room for all my fancy-schmancy heels). I bought these with the money I won in the football pool (NFL) a couple of years ago (I came in 2nd - I got about $135). My team last year was called "Mo' Money For Shoes", but my arrogance cursed me and I almost came in last. A close-up.
The bronze colour is a great neutral. They rub a bit on my big toe, though.
