Mustard Floral and Polka Dots

Going back to work today was brutal. So much to do, so little time, and it's all physical stuff with getting signs up (oodles of signs), stickers on the floor (four different kinds!) and arrows (so many arrows).
I needed loose, comfy clothes for it! My new dress skirt will do nicely!

  • Cardigan - Gap, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in April for my "what I would have worn to Easter if we weren't in a pandemic" look
  • Sleeveless sweater - INC, thrifted; no longer tracked
  • Skirt that was a dress - Lucca, consignment; purchased here for $19.99
  • Shoes - Sorel; last seen here (3rd outfit) in July for Book Club at the Castle

I hid the raggedy edges of my hack job from cutting the top of this dress off and turning it into a skirt yesterday.
A little pattern mixing with the polka dot cardi and the mustard floral.
Polka dots are the gateway to pattern mixing. They go with everything.

I have my sleeveless black sweater on, a little classier than a cami in case I had to remove the cardigan for overheating reasons.
I'm grumbly about our blogging overlords (while I acknowledge that I have this blog for free - thank you!).

For one, I can no longer search on "INC" to find this sweater - it now gives me results with "INC" in a word (like "incredible" or "since") instead of just "INC" words, which is EVERY post. Very annoying.

I even tried searching with quote marks - I know how to do a Boolean search! I have to search for H&M by typing in this: H&M. Weird, eh? The HTML is invading.

It's also somehow decided to dump all my email subscribers (which is a lot!), and they've not been receiving my posts since some time in mid-July! I have tested some things, and read a bunch of help pages, which led me to tweak/correct some stuff, and hopefully it'll start working again...but I didn't do anything to it in the first place! So frustrating. I wondered why some of my favourite people went missing! I hope they didn't think I got the COVID.
And of course, there's the New Interface which...sure, I guess they want to update after 12+ years of looking the same. But it's annoying to have to relearn all this! I had it down to a science!

Anyway, rant over, and I'm just going to stick my tongue out at them, ha ha!
My black and white camo mask for another pattern. I looked like this most of the day - gotta get used to wearing them in the office. I'm going to save a fortune in lipstick and blush!

The stuff:
Yeah, they're clunky, but I like them.

Filigree bling:
Stuff that wouldn't get in my way.

  • Cuff - St. Paul's Cathedral gift shop, London
  • Wood ring - Dots
  • Shield ring - Nine West
  • Earrings - thrifted

  1. Morning Sheila, you look cool and comfy and elegant all at the same time! Love a clothes hack, had a top I loved but the sleeves were too tight so off they came. Love saving stuff like that. 1. Hey, Shaz! Thank you so much! I am a fan of clothes hacking (or farking, as my friend Mel calls it). Yup, gotta consider the mask situation now - it's not going to go away any time soon. Thank you!

  2. I love a clunky shoe too! Cool pair. And dots! Lise

  3. Hello Sheila, I just love that new skirt. You were extremely resourceful in transforming it from its previous existence as a dress which wouldn't have worked. The colours are sweet and the pattern is beautiful. Great stylin!

    1. Thank you, Juliana! It was okay as a dress, but I think I'll get more wear out of it as a skirt than as a dress.

  4. This skirt is so pretty. I love the big white flowers on an orange background. The black top and shoes you paired with it are lovely. The polka dot cardi is adorable. Such a pretty combo. It also looks comfy and I can understand it is something you need right now with work being busy and all.
I know what you mean about the blogger, I started using google to look for my old posts but it's far from perfect. I should probably invest in my all website, but I don't feel like it and I kind of like the informality of blogspot.

    1. Thank you, Ivana! Comfort is key for me right now. Once all this office set-up is done, I'll be able to do some more elaborate outfits.

It's so annoying, but until I'm booted off Blogger, I'll hold off on my own site.

    2. I find your comfort outfits just as fabulous as the more elaborative ones.

  5. That skirt is lovely, I do have a soft spot for mustard! Those shoes are just gorgeous, the more I see them, the more I love them. The spotty top is perfect with both.
Some change is good, tech change isn't! I've reverted back to Legacy Blogger, I just can't get on with the new one. I use Picmonkey to edit my photos and that's changing in December, I can't make head nor tail of their new "improved" version. xxx

    1. Thank you, Vix! I like the shoes too. So fun!

Arg, these changes are so annoying. I've put in a query to the Help forum, and hopefully can get it fixed.

  6. If you hadn't told us it used to be a dress, we'd be none the wiser: that skirt is gorgeous and looks as if it was meant to be a skirt. Love the pattern mixing with the polka dot cardi. They do indeed go with everything. In fact, they can be considered a neutral! I have given the new interface a couple of tries and it sucks. No two ways about it. And no, I don't understand why they need to change something if it's not broke. THAT is the surest way to have problems. Each and every time. I've reported a couple of things which I thought didn't work well, but do you think I got a reaction? Regarding the search thingy, I wanted to search for H&M a couple of days ago and was mystified as to why it couldn't find anything. So that's why! How stupid is that. I follow people by adding them to my reading list and this post simply didn't come up. I just discovered it by pure coincidence. Sigh! Are you still getting my emails by the way? I just don't know anymore. I think I'll join you and stick my tongue out at them! Loving the mask, but I don't envy you having to wear one at the office. I'm so lucky I don't have to do that, it's hard enough having to wear one everywhere else except at home! xxx

    1. I know, right? I should have just been quiet about it, ha ha! Polka dots are such a great pattern!

Well, we don't have much choice, my dear - we're going to have to suck it up! I also follow people by adding to my reading list (so I see Vix in Blogger reader, but not you). I also follow by email, which is how I get your posts. I also click through on commenters' names, but that's it. I know I miss a bunch.

Mask-wearing is starting to be "a thing" here.

  7. I've never "altered" a piece of clothing myself and I was a bit shocked when you cut your dress in half, but my oh my, does it ever work! It looks great and presents as if it was always just a skirt. I will definitely rethink some of the things I'm not so fond of anymore and see if they can't be adjusted, lol. I am also a pattern coward so I love seeing how you mix patterns so successfully.

The office that I retired from will be re-opening in September on a limited scale from what I understand. I imagine that there is someone currently doing many of the things you are doing to get prepared. I also imagine that at some point it will all seem normal, but I'm sure for you and everyone else it will be quite the culture shock at first. You will also have to get used to having more people around you - I'm sure you've both missed your co-workers as well as enjoyed your space. On the upside your outfits will once again gain a proper audience and be appreciated as they should be.

    1. I'm not afraid to ruin something if I think it can be fixed with a scissor snip, Nana! Thank you!

Yes, someone has to do all that stuff, and in my office it's me. It's so much new stuff, and it's going to be a learning curve, for sure. I have really missed my colleagues. I am excited to have an audience again for my outfits!

  11. That dress makes a great skirt! Love those awesome shoes too. I like wearing clunky shoes. It just feels better to me. I thought it was my email that got rid of my subscription. I've noticed a few of the things I subscribed to started missing in July. I clicked on your comment on Vix's blog and I was able to find your blog and subscribed on Bloglovin'. Hopefully the email thing will straighten out. Dang blogging overlords!

    1. Hi, Margaret, thank you for commenting and letting me know. I don't know what the issue is. I don't send the posts out by email MYSELF - it's all automated by Blogger and Feedly, and I don't have any control over the emails or the sending. Resubscribing will not work (it will say that you already are).

I have submitted a query to Blogger, and hopefully will get it sorted out soon.

  13. Ah, are all these issues to do with Blogger's changes? Some of them are very annoying - I've been getting a lot of spam lately, but there seems no way to block comments from 'Unknown' commenters, so all their stupid mucky lines end up in my moderation queue. I know some things were altered to make things more mobile-friendly, but a lot of it seems like a pointless PITA.

    1. I'm sure they are, Mim. You should be able to change who can comment from "Anyone (including anonymous)" to "only users with Google accounts", which could eliminate some people. I also moderate any comments older than 2 weeks. I do get a bit of spam, but I just delete it all.

I know, it does seem pointless. Very frustrating!

  14. Totally agree that the changes in Blogger are annoying, can't understand the reason to change something that it's working! and I haven't seen any improvement (it takes ages to open my blog!)
Glad to see that your skirt-made-of-a-dress is a total success!, looking fab and comfy too!. Polka dots really go with anything!. And I love your chunky shoes!.
Sorry that you have to wear a mask at work, I've managed to avoid it by locking myself up in my office. No chatting, but being safe!

    1. It is a learning curve for all of it, and for Blogger too, I'm sure, as there seem to be a lot of bugs with the new template.

Thank you, my dear! It was very comfy to wear, and I liked this outfit.

It's okay with me - I'd rather wear a mask than go bare-faced!

  15. I love this skirt that was a dress, it's so pretty on you! I took on the new blogger changes as soon as they were available and regretted it - I'm finding the search a lot better in most cases but yesterday it just completely stopped working, I'm hoping it was a bug! Thank you for the tip about how to search for & though, I've never been able to do that before! I'll be able to now! :)

    1. Thanks, Mica! I know I'll get a lot more wear out of it this way.

I also tried the new Blogger out right away, and reported a bunch of things I noticed were missing (like adding captions to pictures), then went back to legacy until July. I think the lack of emailing is on due to the switch. I'm glad my tip helps you!
