We had a VIP in the office yesterday, and he was supposed to be back today, so I thought I'd class things up by wearing black. He didn't appear, but that's okay. I'll just be classy on my own.
I'm not sure why I feel like black is classy and other colours are not. Maybe it's that colour (especially bright colour) is considered "gauche" or "loud". Black is sophisticated...not one of the words that immediately springs to mind when you look at me, hee hee. I'm totally fine with that.- Sweater - Tatyana, thrifted; purchased here for $6.95
- Skirt - H&M, consignment; first worn here (2nd outfit) in May with a denim shirt
- Shoes - Celestial Communication Andromeda, Fluevog; last seen here in April with polka dot pants
Black does make a great backdrop for a patterned piece, or a pretty necklace. This sweater collected cat hair like mad (I had to cuddle Vizzini in the morning!), but it was otherwise comfortable to wear all day. I didn't wear a coat today (duh, I have a sweater on) so I did "pit" it and now it's in the wash.
The skirt is lovely and swooshy. It won't be a "forever" piece in my wardrobe, but it's good enough for a year or two. I'm also okay with that.
I had forgotten about this hat! It's by Delux, and I don't remember where I bought it, but I first wore it on the blog here (3rd outfit) in June 2011. Flashback!
It's made of paper.
The stuff:
Many oohs and ahhs over these shoes - I do love them. I organized an informal "Friday Fluevog Foray" to the store for my coworkers, so that we can all go down together and drool over the shoes.
Pink bling:
Love the sparkle!
- Necklace/earrings - Sherman, vintage 50s, vintage fair
It's outfits like this that make me want more basics in my wardrobe - I like a plain backdrop with a pretty printed piece sometimes! :) I have a printed skirt I rarely seem to wear, pairing it with basics seems to be a winner to encourage me to actually wear it!
ReplyDeleteI know - I often forget to just get some good solid neutrals, in this case the black sweater. I love prints, and you need these basics to pop them. You can do it, Mica!
DeleteI love the scrolly damask pattern of the skirt, and agree the black sweater is perfect with it, Classy yes, of course, but also a neutral too, that in a away, lets the pattern skirt have its dramatic moment.
ReplyDeleteLov the new Fluevogs and pink sparkly gems!

Thank you, Elle! Gotta let the pretties shine sometimes!
DeleteI totally agree about black being more sophisticated ore formal or something! I mean, funerals... Right?
ReplyDeleteLol, I usually wear colour to funerals (it suited the people I was honouring).
DeleteI think you look so very classy in this outfit. What a shame the VIP missed it!
ReplyDeleteI think the shoes are absolutely ace with the skirt and sweater - the curve of the strap is so elegant and lifts the shoe and the outfit out of the ordinary. I love your pink beads too!
His loss, ha ha! Thank you, Veronica! I'm glad I did these shoes with it. Those beads are very $$ - quite rare and desired by collectors.
DeleteOh wow, I think the VIP Missed out !
ReplyDeleteAnd this outfit looks so much like me, meaning I'd wear it all right a way-
that skirt is splendid.
I think so too - thanks, Lorena! This is one of those outfits that is a "gateway" piece for people. I was still getting compliments on it today!
DeleteOoh, what a special outfit! Super elegant. It coheres beautifully. The shoes are a knock-out.
ReplyDeleteThank you, sweetheart! I adore the shoes. So special.
DeleteHope today's comment sticks, as I tried to preview one yesterday, twice, and it evaporated. Here we go - I think you look fab in black and yes I think it's pretty grown up and elegant too. I'm a new convert to the joys of black and it's kinda weird that it's a new found pleasure to wear this previously despised colour. The shoes are yet another hit x
ReplyDeleteAnna
Oh, gosh, sorry about that! It's here! Isn't it funny how we are "rediscovering" black?
