Boho Floral, With Sleeves

Ah, one more day and then I am off again! So much to do...so little time. Better do it in a dress!
Do you guys know Elle of The Elle Diaries? She is a charming New Yorker who wears the most beautiful clothes and accessories (and she is just so darned sweet).

  • Dress - H&M, thrifted; first worn here in May with pink and pearls
  • Shoes - Gap, thrifted; purchased here for $19.95
  • Coat (below) - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last seen here a couple of weeks ago

She just did a post about the sleeve trend thing (short version: sleeves are big, dramatic and doing things), with some pictures of her own sleeves - very inspiring!

And lo, here I am in my own sleeve trend. Got the floral dress with bell sleeves - voila!
I built the outfit around the shoes...which don't actually go with a lot in my closet! I don't have much brown in my spring/summer wardrobe, but I quite liked the 70s vibe of this look.

I remembered the ginormous slits on either side of this dress, so I wore a full vintage slip under it.
 Why are they so high??

Outerwear. It's still windy. I guess it is technically still spring.
I did get pretty sweaty walking home, though.

The stuff:
The sun is leaching the colour out of the shoes in this picture, but the colour of them and the belt are nearly an exact match. The shoes were fabulous and comfy (although not squishy to stand in), and made a loud racket whenever I clomped up and down our internal concrete stairwells in our office building. Heh. Here I come!

Green and brown bling:
That green sparkly ring is a snag-monster. Of course, it snagged the back of the dress.

  • Belt - Fendi, thrifted
  • Green ring - consignment
  • Amber ring - late 90s
  • Earrings - Plum

How do you feel about the sleeve trend? Big, belled, cold-shouldered, etc. For me, it's not a trend - I just like interesting features in my clothes, and sleeves are one of those things!

  1. What a lovely floral print that dress has and I agree they're awfully high slits but as you have great legs - no worries!

I do love that white coat of yours so much...

More time off? Vizzini will be pleased I'm sure!

    1. Thank you, Veronica! Aw, you're so sweet. I love the white coat too - such a score, I must be down to pennies per wear now! Vizzini will be grumpy, as always.

  2. Look at you in that first photo, Sheila. Quite the pin-up. I love how everything is dainty and feminine then you add the kickass belt. It's to-die-for. With the purple hair being the ultimate crowning glory xo

  3. Always better in a dress, I so agree! Love this one. The slits, yes, I encounter that, too. The slip is a great ida and I am loving that wide cognac belt!

  4. Hi, danae rem, and thank you for the creative suggestions. The slits are needed for walking, so yeah, a slip or other underneath item is needed. Since I paid less than $10 for the dress, I'm not likely to make any alterations (I'm so lazy), but thanks!

Aw, that is so nice of you to say! Thank you!

The belt, of course is a long standing favourite.

    1. It's a controversial slit! I know you love this belt! Thanks, Lorena!

  6. I've been watching this sleeve trend and have managed to find one thrifted and one high street piece to pay homage to the trend. I don't have trumpet sleeves like yours though! I'm always pleased to see this oversized belt - it's a brilliant addition to any outfit!

    1. I've always liked funky sleeves and cuffs, so this "trend" isn't new to me, but it's fun to go along with it. I love the belt too - such a find!
