Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Friday Cowgirl, Ulti Lace and Maxi, L's B-Day Party

Ah, Sunday...where did the time go? Let's try to remember.

Here's Friday! I worked a half day on Friday, so I wore comfy things for walking in the afternoon.
One of my few denim items is this skirt, paired here with my new-to-me blouse.

  • Blouse - Lucky Brand, thrifted; purchased here for $9.99
  • Skirt - Nicole Miller, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in November 2016 with copper leather and glitter shoes
  • Boots - 1883 Lucchesse, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) in May for Ulti

I suspect this blouse is from the early 90s - it has that very full "puffy shirt" feeling, a la Seinfeld.
I love this denim pencil skirt - it's very high-waisted, so it keeps everything in check.

The stuff:
Love these boots. I've gotten my money's worth out of them for sure.

Silver and red bling:
First wearing of this new-to-me pony hair belt.

  • Belt - Gap, consignment
  • Ring - Nine West
  • Earrings - gift from Lise

I did an early afternoon grocery shop in anticipation of L's birthday party at our house on Saturday, then met up with L for brunch. We sauntered home on the sunny afternoon, and spent our evening playing board games. Wonderful!

L's actual birthday was on Saturday, but it was business as usual - we had a game of Ulti to play!
Always ready to be civilized in public!

  • Top - La Vie 89, thrifted; last seen here (4th outfit) for weekend birthday shopping in May
  • Cardigan (below) - Jacob, thrifted; last worn here (4th outfit) in August 2016 for a shopping outing
  • Skirt - Alex Colman, vintage, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in September 2016 for a post-tattoo theatre date with Mom
  • Shoes - Half Truth Veda, Fluevog; last worn here a few days ago in May with poppies

Got my shades on, and I'm fully sunblocked. We had a great game (my team won!), with much running around and high-fiving, followed by lunch with just L and I.

We spent the afternoon tidying up the house, building our party playlist (L) and prepping the food (me).
I had enough time to nap beforehand. I love naps.
I also love this skirt - it's such a beautiful piece. People just call out in passing, "Beautiful skirt!"

The stuff:
Much walking done in these - these have been one of my best Fluevog investments for cost-per-wear...unlike my spectacular boots I wore later that night.

Turquoise and brass bling:
It was overcast during our game, which is nice, because we don't die in the heat, but it got sunny as the afternoon wore on.

  • Cuff - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Ring - local
  • Earrings - Mango's

Party outfit! Our first guests arrived just as I was taking my pictures, so I had to dash!
I dressed for L - who is a leg man, hee hee - in a short skirt and high heels. Happy Birthday, L!

  • Dress - Fire Los Angeles, thrifted; purchased here in April for $6.00
  • Boots - LA Malibu, Fluevog; last worn here (2nd outfit) in November 2015 for Urbanite at the Art Gallery

Check out the bigass sleeve on this dress.

The dress is just pull-on, with an elasticated waist. It was very comfy to wear. When I originally bought it, I thought I might only wear it once, but frankly, it's a keeper - I love the simple shape, and it fits me well. $6.00 well-spent!

Uh-oh, there's the front door buzzer. L, you get the door while I finish my pics!
I curled my post-nap hair and smooshed it up with some hairspray for more volume.

Check out my stocking-printed tights:
Sexy! You could see peeks of them when I sat down (which was often, in these boots).

The stuff:
I managed to last nearly the entire party - from 8pm until 2am - in these boots. They are very tall - I am 5'10" in them (I'm 5'4" barefoot).

I underestimated how many times I've worn them - I think I'm up to 8 outfits, which brings my cost-per-wear down to a practically cheap $50 per wear. I'm happy with that, but of course, these are going NOWHERE. I love them.

Check 'em out, and yes, you may gasp.
They are beautifully constructed for a 6-inch heel - and shockingly comfortable and easy to walk in (for a 6-inch heel). My feet are a little tired today, but not too bad.

Silver bling:
I wore the hairpin...in my hair. Shocker!

  • Cuff - Fossil, gift from L
  • Earrings - Fossil, thrifted
  • Hairpin - Le Chateau (the other one broke when I was putting it in, aw)
  • Ring - Soul Flower

And now, off to do some couch-time with L as we relax. Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

  3. A belated happy birthday to L! I love your party outfit, those boots are incredible! You have so many pieces you get down to an incredibly low cost per wear so fully justified to keep these boots even if they are only worn sparingly. That just makes them more special! :)

  4. Fantastic party outfit Sheila, and I love your longer hair. Your legs just go go on and on with the Fluevog boots+dress! Sounds like a fun party :-)
I have a similar long skirt with side slits that I just bought - am completely stealing that silhouette idea of a shorter, sheer top layered with a vest.
Love, secret squirrel (it's been a while since I commented!) x

I hope Vizzini behaved himself at the party - no shoelace nibbling....

    1. Thank you, Veronica! I like the contrast of the full + skinny silhouette. Vizzini was very good and hid under the bedcovers like the chicken-cat he is.

    1. It's actually just printed cotton - the waistband is velvet only. Thanks so much, Elle! I don't know if I'm trailblazing or just lost in the woods, hee hee.

  10. Your party outfit is totally glam! I love the transformation from day to evening including the redo of hair. The boots look so high that it's difficult to imagine them being comfy - what a great pair of boots they are indeed!
