Lazy Monday - Screw You, Anonymous

Lazy Monday means a dress! I haven't worn this one for a long time - the last time I did, I got the following comment:

Flattering maybe, but not for a young woman. It's mostly dull looking. No color, no pattern, no interesting design. The dress could go on mom, grandma or great grandma and get the same response.You're too young to dress like great grandma! Liven up your look girl!

Of course, it was an anonymous comment (and may have been influenced by my poor photography skills). And I don't see Anonymous posting pictures of his/her clothes. Still, the comment rankled.

Heh, you Brits will know what my hand gesture means (hint: it's not "two" or "peace").

I know I shouldn't take it personally, but would you say that to someone's face?

Edit: Let me clarify, my own "screw you" in the title is in the spirit of sauciness (I swear a lot in real life). It's been nearly a year since I had that comment and I'm not trying to dictate how people should comment or that they should only say positive things (I love getting comments, good and bad and crazy!). I've reconciled my own reactionary feelings about being "slammed" (which is what it felt like to me), although that may not have been the original intent behind it, and I feel confident that I like this dress and screw what anyone else thinks.

I wore it with a belt today, covering up the waist detail, which I also like:

This is one of the few all-grey items I own - the pinstripe in it is a faint pale blue. I love the 50s look of the collar, the perfect length and the classic cut. I actually debated getting rid of this after that comment.

But my whole outfit was focused on the new Tsubos I got on the weekend.

Here's a close-up of these suede and patent leather beauties:

There's nearly a 1" hidden platform in the front, and the heel - although it measures 4" from the back - is NOT 4 inches. The heel of your foot sinks down nearly 1/2" with all the cushioning, making these barely 3 inches. And comfy?? Wow, amazing.

I love the wide sling-back of them - just a peep of my tights shows below it. They were $100 on sale ($50 off!) and worth every penny. Shout out to Susie at the Cobbler! Your store rules (and I've been shopping there for over 25 years)!

Heh, L hates these shoes - he prefers a classic 80s pointy-toed stiletto shoe.

Green, Tweed and Librarian Shoes

Today's outfit is a bunch of my...what do they call it...ah, "remixed" items, aside from the green camisole, which is new.
I love, love this skirt and cardigan. They are probably two of my favourite items in my closet. The cardigan continues the theme from yesterday, of clothes where the design continues around the back:

More storks and trees! I also love that both cuffs on the cardi have little tree branches. You can see the embroidery better in the close-up below.

Hee, my butt looks good there.

I spent the day admiring my shoes. Seriously, these are awesome shoes:

$22.50 US in a thrift store in Seattle, and they were brand new.

I read that gallons of pearls is "in" right now, so I wore one of my necklaces. Of course, I've done scads of pearls before! (Hmm...I should wear that dress again)

Lazy Week! A Bit More Effort

Happy New Year's Eve, everyone! All the best to you for a safe, healthy and happy 2010!

After yesterday's pathetic effort, I put a bit more thought into today's outfit:
Jean skirt, purple cashmere top, purple tights and my granny boots.

The office was even deader today than yesterday - and I had to pack up my entire desk and supplies for our move on Monday, so by noon, I didn't even have a pen! Our whole deparment left early, which was nice, because I had to pick up chocolate, nuts and grapes for the dessert portion of our evening tonight.

Oh So Faux - and Let the Trash Talking Begin!

My department at work is physically moving within our building, so things are chaotic at work. Doors are propped open, a scissor lift drove through our department, workmen (no cute ones, damn) are going in and out at all times, and I've been freezing!

So I broke out the faux fur:
I love good quality faux fur - and this collar is detachable from the jacket! It was so snuggly all day. Fortunately, they're allowing us to wear jeans for the rest of the week. I am sure I looked a sight packing up boxes in those shoes, ha!

The stuff:

Killer shoes, man! Please admire the mismatched buttons - I always keep all those extra buttons and gew-gaws that come with clothes, but for the life of me, I cannot find the extra buttons for this jacket that I know are somewhere!

So...I've been doing my push-ups regularly, as I've posted about many times. Part of the reason I started doing them was because Festivus is coming (Festivus is coming!!) and I was thoroughly embarassed by being beaten easily in the Feats of Strength arm-wrestling contest two years ago by my co-worker's wife (oh the shame).

Not again! I'm calling out some of my gals that I know read this blog!

Sherylyn, I'm looking at you, girl. You are going down! Cat, you better get Vero to start doing more biceps work in your classes! Ruth, let's put those pipes to the test!

Oh, yeah. That baby's got your name on it. I will not be eliminated in the first round this year!

Granny Chic

I've become a devotee of cashmere in the last year - I'm boggled by how much cheaper it is to buy second-hand than new. I got this little pink scoop-necked sweater with rhinestone buttons for $12.99 in a thrift shop last week.
I love pink and green together - tossed on my granny cardi and a nude shoe, piled on the sparklies and I'm good to go.

I find this cardi a bit boxy, so I like to pin the back to give it more shape:
