Fancy Friday: Coral, Red, Orange or Pink

Happy Friday, my friends!

I couldn't wait - I wore two of my new-to-me purchases from yesterday's Mental Health Shop.
You know it's a good buy when you want to wear it immediately!

  • Dress - COS, consignment; purchased here for $63.99
  • Shirt - Denver Hayes, consignment; purchased here for $15.00
  • Shoes - Sol Sana; last worn here in July with a matchy pink jacket
  • Coat (below) - Paparazzi, thrifted, Vancouver; last seen here (2nd outfit) for brunch and shopping in June

Check out the view of the Castle this morning.
A lovely sunrise bathing the building and trees in pinky-orange light.

You probably noticed that I'm wearing this new-to-me dress - it's hard to miss - but did you spot the second item?
I layered the pink sleeveless buttoned shirt, worn with just the collar peeking out. I loved both pieces, especially the dress - check out the massive pockets!

I am considering keeping the dress out for fall/winter, as I like that I can layer thin sweaters and blouses under it. It would look great with boots too.
It did wrinkle up a bit in the rear and lap from sitting, but not too badly. Don't you love how the skirt bells? It is not amenable to big strides, but it's fine just for walking around the office.

One of my coworkers was certain that this dress was pink. Or is it orange? Or red?
Or is it coral?

My mask is red, which makes it look orange.
In bright sunlight, it's almost neon.

  • Mask - Lazy Susan's

Incognito and sporting a jacket as outerwear.
My leather gloves are orange...and almost match the dress!

Does it even matter what colour it is? It's an awesome dress!
I love the look of the collar and the necklace with the jacket done up. I felt awesome in this.

  • Gloves - consignment

The stuff:
I pack these shoes away for fall/winter, as they are delicate and pale pink velvet just feels more spring/summer to me.

Glittery bling:
I went all out on the glitter.

  • Necklace - thrifted
  • Silver/precious stone/pearl bracelet - gift from L
  • Green bracelet - vintage 60s, Mom's
  • Earrings - gift from Sherri
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower

So fancy!

Vizzini was very happy to see me when I got home.
"This looks delicious."

Ack! He's trying to steal my access cards and keys from work - little monster!

I quickly put my keys away, and grabbed him for some Forced Lovin'.
"The Woman is full of lies about me."

He looks so innocent, but he'd just bitten my earlobe!

Wishing you all a chill, peaceful and quiet weekend! I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure!

  2. Yesterday I was wondering about the versatility of the silk cotton blend. I am thrilled to see you wearing this and love it’s almost classic silhouette with a twist and playful color. This dress, the Renoir, and the McQueen were my top favorites despite your other finds being great treasures also. What a fun pairing of the COS with that grand necklace and jacket. Have a great weekend!

    1. I would usually reserve silk/cotton for spring/summer only, Chalotalo, but the ability to layer things with this means I may keep it out. I love the classic-with-a-twist shape of it.

Thanks so much - I hope you had a good one!

  3. Colour is perhaps, like beauty, in the eye of the beholder. It is also dependent on the light. Colour can be completely different when viewed indoors and outside. That is why (when we were picking tiles for our balcony), I took the ceramic tiles out of the shop to look what they will look like under direct sunshine.

Anyhow, to me that dress looks orange...and a very pretty orange. Is there such term as orange pink? I often hear the term orange red but this dress looks distinctly orange pink to me. The balloon cut is gorgeous. I love how you layered a pink collar shirt under it. You should totally keep this dress for Autumn and Winter. The colour simply screams October to me. The coat is fantastic pairing with it. Beautiful shoes and necklace as well....and Vizzini is beautiful too.

I love how the castle looked orange in that light....like it coordinated with your dress.

    1. Oh, I know, Ivana! I find reds/pinks/oranges and blue/aqua/teals to be the trickiest - they all look different in natural vs. indoor lighting, and different again in photos!

I think coral is usually used for orange-pink/orange-red. I love the balloon skirt on it - once I tried it on, I was completely sold on it. Thank you! I might - I have to see how many other things I have to squish into my closet!

I know - so nice of the weather to cooperate with my colours. :)

  4. What a nice dress. Striking, in fact. Even more than the great color, I love its unusual shape. Eye-catching and appealing.

  5. Gorgeous dress! It looked orange to me and I loved all the bling you accessorised with it. It will look fab with a jumper or even a shirt under it, too!

    Have a fab weekend.

    1. Different monitors will have slightly different settings on them, so no one will see the colour the same! I think I could do a long-sleeved blouse or a thin turtleneck under it (not a thicker jumper, though).

      Thanks, you too!

  6. Haha, I did spot BOTH items instantly! The coral (it's coral for me!) is gorgeous, and yes, I think you should keep it out for Autumn/Winter. It would most definitely look great with boots!
I'm loving all the fancy jewellery, and obviously that coat is a stunner! It has got me swooning every time I see it. Oh, naughty Vizzini! Have a fab weekend, Sheila xxx

    1. Oh, well done, Ann! It's coral to me as well - and we shall see. I have a LOT of clothes, and only so much closet space, so even with the best intentions, I might not have enough room to keep it out.

I love all the gobs of bling too. I am glad to get another wearing in of the embroidered coat - it's so gorgeous.

Vizzini is such a naughty boy. Hope you had a good weekend too, my dear!

  7. Love this dress and it is definitely orange. An orangy-red. You are right, you can layer it in winter and wear it with boots but I like your styling of it in this fall. The jackets works very well over the dress.

  8. I think your dress is orange; my favourite colour!
It will style beautifully in Autumn with a light layer underneath; it will look quite festive at Christmas too :)
Love the vibrant accessories and of course the handsome Vizzini too, x

    1. Thanks so much, Phyl! It really is all these colours!

Thanks - I think I might get a more autumnal look out of it. I have a LOT of dresses, so probably wouldn't wear it at Christmas, but you never know. :)

  9. I love this dress! It does look orange to me but I find there are some pieces that never fail to photograph accurately! I guess if it appears different colours to different people in person too you can play with that, as you've shown here, but adding other colours with it to make it look more one colour than another! :)

Hope you are having a lovely weekend :) We had a fun day at the playground yesterday.

    1. Yes, I have the feeling it will be a contentious issue whenever I wear it, Mica! What colour IS it? Ha ha! I agree, pairing it with different shades will cause it to look different.

I hope you had a great weekend! How lovely to get out!

  13. This dress is lovely, no matter what you call the color—but as an artist, I wonder if it is what I would call vermillion red—a bright/light red leaning towards orange. I used to have a wonderful summery skirt of cotton voile that color.

Funny story about this sort of color, from more than half a century ago: once upon a time, when I was about 11 or 12, some relative gifted me and my sister “indoor” sleeping bags (for sleepovers) made of lovely flannel printed with a pinkish orange colored paisley pattern. The two of us argued passionately for years about whether they were truly pink or orange. After all these decades, I don’t recall which side of the argument I took. I wish I would have known the term vermilion back then!

  14. I so agree, Linda. I just did a deep dive into Vermilion and the history of the pigment, which is an orange-red colour. Whatever it is, it's a gorgeous shade.

That is so funny - pink or orange! - that you argued over the sleeping bags! Yes, you would have won for sure if you'd known "vermilion", Linda!

  16. Yes! That dress would be fantastic as part of a chilly season wardrobe as well. I would totally keep it out year round - or at least during the fall, when it's colour is at one with its autumnal hue peers.

    1. I'll have to see what my fall/winter dresses look like - I often have to remove pieces that I'd intended on keeping out just due to space limitations. I really love this dress, though.

  17. Oh, I do hope you keep this dress out all year! That skirt is magnificent…chef’s kiss! I’m seeing it with black or purple…yes, purple. I love coral and purple with some teal thrown in! I can see why you felt awesome with the coat done up! The flirty butcher should see you in this! Perhaps a free pound of bacon!
