Well, that was a stoopid day. I'm glad it's over.
Sometimes I take on too much; sometimes the world throws too much at me. Either way, I can usually shoulder the burden, especially in this jacket! Look at those 80s shoulders!- Jacket (part of a skirt suit) - Valentino, vintage early 80s, thrifted; purchased the whole suit here for $12.00
- Skirt - Quillaree, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) in January with cowgirl fringe
- Fluffy underskirt - H&M, thrifted; I don't track this
- Shoes - Hispanitas; last worn here in April with double leopard
I couldn't bear wearing both suit pieces together - I had to break them up and wear them as separates. I liked how this fluffy short skirt (with pockets!) gives me a real hourglass shape. My waist looks so small!
Without that nipped-in waist, this would just be another boxy 80s jacket. I did roll the sleeves up (they are a bit short anyway) during the day.
I always flaunt my fluffy underskirts.
This one is almost pure elastic - it makes me feel more secure about not flashing my undercarriage to all and sunder.
The stuff:
The antithesis of the pointy-toe that most people would expect with a suit-like outfit. I had a crazy day, and these were very much appreciated by my feet.
Lacy bling:
I needed some black on the top to balance the black on my feet. I loved wearing this necklace.
- Necklace - consignment, first wear
- Ring - gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1984
- Earrings - don't remember
Some of you wanted to see this suit together on me, so after work I had a little try-on with the whole shebang. This is my sombre wedding look.

Without the hat:
This is a big bowl of mushy "meh" to me. Taupe is such a bland colour.
And this is why I split the pieces up.
That's 100% better. I do have an outfit planned for the skirt (with pockets!) portion of the suit. I may wear both pieces together one day, but it'll require some colour injection.
Mr. Vizzini was sulking this morning.

It is interesting seeing how different the pieces look on their own! I definitely prefer them as separates too.
ReplyDeleteHope that tomorrow is a better day for you!
Thanks, Mica!
DeleteI love these pieces--separately, as you so smartly figured out! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThey are just too much all in one suit. Maybe in 1983.
DeleteI absolutely love the jacket - and yes your waist does look small, because it is :)
ReplyDeleteI am not a big fan of the look with the lighter skirt, however I do love the set.
It's all an illusion! Ha! thank you for being honest - I don't mind. Everyone likes different stuff - I'm the one who has to wear it!
DeleteI kind of like the sombre wedding look, but it does need some kind of jewellery, either pearls or diamonds. And you must wear the hat.
ReplyDeleteThat is one very pissed off cat! Good luck with the aversion training. Looks like either it will work or he will kill you in your sleep. :)
Yeah, I was just trying it on to see how it looked. I didn't bother accessorizing. I need to wear that hat again soon!
DeleteYes, he's rather grumpy. I got a 5am wake-up call today, which is better than 4:48 by a whole 12 minutes!
Love the first look with short girly skirt and that great jacket. Yes, the formal suit is fine, but I love your spin with the leopard shoes. Totally fab x
