Some Catching Up: Corduroy, Dots and Stripes and More Patchwork

Another week, more outfits! But first, a huge holler and thank you to my dear blog-friends Lorena and Ally (Shybiker) who met up and thought of me. How much do I love that picture? I was there on a napkin! You guys are the best.

*dabs away a tear*

Ahem, yes, outfits! As mentioned before, I work in a freezing cold office, so no light and airy sundresses for me. No, I am in corduroy, sweaters and jackets:
The skirt is from one of my recent thrifting adventures - it was all of $10. I love the midi-length of it, the pencil skirt shape and the lux fabric. And it's made in Canada!

Outside:I enjoy the outside poses although it's a little warm (I have a camisole on under the sweater!). I last wore this funky plaid jacket here.

The stuff:
I love those shoes. Love. Last seen here.

A close-up of the jewelry:
My brooch from Mom, vintage earrings and ring.

Jacket (Armor Jeans, thrifted), sweater (Trina Turk, consignment), skirt (Current, thrifted), shoes (Steve Madden, thrifted), pin (gift from Mom), ring (Sarah Coventry, 70s, vintage), earrings (vintage).

Of course, it's not always thrifted and consignment and sample sales. Sometimes I actually go into a "real" store! I took a spin through the mall a week or so ago, just to see the colours and styles (okay, it was retail therapy, I admit it!).

I had to check out Jacob, one of my favourite chain stores, and I was glad I did because I found this awesome micro-polka dot pin-up girl blouse:
I had to do the pin-up girl look (only professional), right? The blouse was $19.99 on sale. That's my pinstriped skirt that I first wore back in February with these same Fluevogs!

Outside:
A little disheveled as I'd been in this outfit since 8am (and it's about 8pm there). My WW group liked this outfit so I gave them a twirl!

My usual table for my stuff picture was occupied elsewhere so I laid it out on the floor. Someone soon discovered it:
It's Inigo! He approved of the black and white shoes and wouldn't stop rubbing them.

Black and white bits:
Isn't that polka dot pattern fabulous?

Blouse (Jacob), skirt (Alfani, thrifted), belt (no brand, NYC holiday), shoes (Fluevog "Listen Up Harlow"), bracelet (Le Chateau), earrings (Plum).

I froze from not having a jacket on yesterday, so I remedied that today:
Recognize the skirt pattern/look? It's part of the same line as this jacket - I couldn't resist buying it. It's got a double flounce (I love flounces!), crazy patterns and patchwork, and pockets! I am a sucker for skirts with pockets. It also has two draw-strings on either side to ruch the sides up. *swoon* It was $34.99 at Dots.

Outside:
The jacket is this one - the pinky-red tone went really well with the reddy-pinks in the skirt.

Can you believe I have only worn these shoes twice before? That's a shame!

A better look at the skirt's patterns:
Hee, the red buttons kind of look like eyes...spooky! I like all the wrinkly khaki satin (those are the pockets) and the sort of browny-green burlap in the centre.

The stuff:
Those are really odd shoes - L doesn't like them, but I do. They're super comfy. Cat, I still wear the necklace you gave me, hon! I love it and think of you when I wear it.

Jacket (French Connection, thrifted), cami (Esprit), belt (Nygard), skirt (Dolcezza), shoes (Jeffrey Campbell), necklace (handmade from Cat).

  1. I'm always so relieved when I see that someone else knows of Jacob. Silly American domination of my blog reader! I've never bought anything from the retail store, but I have found a lot of their stuff (often new without tags) in Value Village. And not only are they Canadian, they also don't do any digital plastic surgery on their models!

And that ruffly skirt is great! I wish my Dots had such unique finds!

  2. I love the entire second outfit. Each piece just works perfectly together and I love the shoes.

The new skirt is sooo cool! I bet it's super fun to wear. I also love the 'weird' shoes. I'm always intrigued when people mentions their SO doesn't like something, maybe it's because my own doesn't have much of an opinion on fashion.

  3. All the outfits here have some element that makes me want to grab them and run. ALL THE SKIRTS, for example. That last one, with the flounces and the drawstrings? SWOOOOOOOON.

  4. I love the first two outfits so much and I am excited to see the midi-length skirt coming back in. The first shoes are so trendy and I am jealous that you can wear them...my feet would die!!

  5. Hi Sheila! I mentioned you in my post today because I am trying to learn your "sitting on the steps" pose - I've got a way to go : > Love your new polka dot blouse with the wide belt and spectator style shoes.

  6. It touches me that you were touched. Truth be told, Lorena deserves all the credit -- the napkin was her idea and initiative. I merely agreed!

  9. Cara, it's such a great store - good quality and good prices, and it's Canadian and they make a lot of their clothes in Canada! I love that they don't do digital alteration on their models! Thanks so much!

Megan, thanks, it's my favourite too. I do have a soft spot for wacky stuff, and I couldn't resist the skirt. I've educated L on fashion quite a bit, so he's always got an opinion on what I wear - he reads my blog!

    C&B, thank you so much!

Pam, thank you! And yet, I got those shoe nearly two years ago, second hand. They're pretty comfortable, really.

Patti, aw, you are such a sweetheart, thank you!

Ally, it's the sweetest thing anyone has done for me in ages. Thank you!

shooting star - thank you! And thanks for commenting.

Terri, I knew you'd like that one.
