Our New Year's Eve was spent in the company of 4 other couples - we ate at a Korean BBQ restaurant, then walked to our friends' condo for cheese, chocolate, fruit and other nibbly goodies (and of course, lots of wine and beer!). L and I staggered home around 3am. *stretch* I just crawled out of bed, haha!
I was a bit rushed last night getting ready last night, so my hair is not as sleek as I wanted, but here's my lovely new gown:
My friends' home was a no-shoe zone last New Year's Eve, so these are the shoes I would have worn if I'd been able to leave them on. However, since we would be doing so much walking (to town, to friends' place, home), I chose to go with a more practical boot:
This dress was $8.00 in a thrift store - it's new, not vintage, and I'm pretty sure it's never been worn. Forgive my slight bulginess; I am not a fan of Spanx or control undergarments. I was comfortable all night!
But I know you want to see the shoes! These were $30 and were one of the five pairs I purchased with gift money from my in-laws:
They are Poetic Licence (which, as we know, are the makers of the Best Shoes Ever) and were over $200 regular price. Ah well, I'll find some other outfit to wear them with!
A close-up of the jewelry:
L got me these earrings for Christmas - I love them! That's my old Kenneth Cole ring. I "sized" it with a couple of bandaids, since it's from my heavy weight and is too big even for my thumbs.
I believe in making achievable resolutions. My New Year's Resolution this year is to read an hour a day. I love books and I have tons that I haven't read. I really want to make time in my day to read more and get through some of them - I spend way too much time staring at the idiot box (both computer and TV).
Of course, my shopping challenge is now over! I'll be doing a write-up about what I liked, didn't like, and what part(s) of it I might be carrying over for good into my shopping habits.
Dress (Lori Ann Montreal, thrifted), shoes (Poetic Licence, gift), earrings (Plum, gift from L), ring (Kenneth Cole), boots (Expressions).
have been thinking about you and the end of your 2009 resolution..Was wondering if the stores had blockades to prevent your rush!! Seriously, all the best in 2010....hope you have joy, peace, fun and love! B
ReplyDeleteI love the dress and the shoes! I know what you mean with the practical vs the glam shoes. NYE can be such a long night. Glad you had a great celebration. I need to work on my NY's resolutions.
ReplyDeleteWOW. You are a long cool drink of water in that red dress. GORGEOUS.
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome dress and I love those shoes. I can’t wait to see the other four pairs. If they are half as gorgeous as this one, no wonder you were bragging about them the other day! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are going to read more? I look forward to your book reviews.
Glad you are going shopping again! Happy New Year and happy shopping!
Love the dress, looking hot lady :)
ReplyDeleteOh, beautiful dress! You look SO stunning here, and that color is wonderful. The party we went to last night was also a no shoes zone, and I was so upset! My outfit was totally dependent on the shoes...ah well. Anyway, you looked gorgeous!

You look fabulous - what a way to end the year.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with your new new Year goals.
I always set mine on the day my chidlren go back to school which is Jan 6th this year.
Beautiful dress, and the earrings are gorgeous! Your other half buys fantastic presents :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Sheila, you look great. Love the shoes too bad you didn't get wear them. And those earrings....wow!
ReplyDeleteI'm a rabid reader. I have to read before I go to sleep, even if it's for only 10 - 15 minutes, even if I've been out drinking (sometimes you have to reread the next day)! But it's a habit I got into as a kid and a good one that has stuck with me. Good luck and Best wishes in 2010!
You look absolutely smashing in that dress. What a knockout look for a bargain price! I'm glad you had a great time on New Year's Eve even though the night ran late. We stayed out until about 2 AM, which was difficult for me because I had got up at 5 to make it to work, whereas everyone else had taken the day off.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to hearing about your shopping challenge recap and see what you've learned over the past year!
I LOVE LOVE the dress Sheila!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress. Very sexy. I love a one-shoulder look!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bonnie! No, I actually have kept the shopping to a dull roar so far. All the best to you as well!
ReplyDeleteHillary, thanks! My feet were still sore the next morning, but would have been worse with the higher shoes.
Kristen, thanks, darlin'!
Thanks so much, Aradia! Yes, the other shoes are just as gorgeous. I love to read - I may just add wee book reviews to the blog when I finish a book. Thanks - Happy New Year to you!
Thanks, Alison! Yeah, it was a blast.
Thanks, Tricia!
Thank you, Julia! I love the colour too - I am a sucker for a red dress. I hate no shoes parties. Grrr...
Jane, thanks! I hope that this is a resolution I can stick with.
Thanks, Tat! Yes, he's really good at buying me great jewelry. Thanks, Happy New Year to you!
Thanks, Chris, good to see you! Same here - I always read in bed. My favourite is on the weekend when I can read in the morning in bed. Thank you! You too!
Thanks so much, Kari! Oh, you poor thing, you had to work? That really sucks. I will be doing the recap soon.
Kim! Great to see you. I thought you would like this dress. :)
Thanks, Wendy! I fell in love with it.
Smoking hot Sheila ! You look soo good :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and the shoes you didn't wear... wow-
I like your New Year's resolution.... more reading seems like a smart choice.
Wish you the very best for 2010, cheers!
Wowza, you look HAUTE, lady! Great shoes, too.
ReplyDeleteI also opted for the comfortable walking boot rather than the glam goddess shoes on NYE. You looked lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Tina! I felt great. :)
