Helping a Fellow Blogger; Oh, and an Outfit

Today, I feel like I was hit by a ton of bricks - life can throw some pretty sh*tty stuff at you sometimes. I'm speaking of Jessica of the vintage blog Chronically Vintage, and the tragic fire that destroyed her and her husband Tony's home, all their possessions, and took the life of her sweet kitty, Stella. Jessica is a fellow BC-er, and although we have never met, she is a sweet, dear lady.

Of course, my heart went out to them. What if we had a fire and we lost Vizzini?
"I'm fireproof, Woman, stop your crying."
I'd be devastated, and it would be horrible to lose everything we own. Yes, "it's just stuff" and stuff is ephemeral, but that is cold comfort to someone when they lose everything. So today's post pales for me in light of this. I have made a donation (here, if you are so inclined) from me and Vizzini, in memory of Stella. Virtual hugs to Jessica and Tony!

Okay, back to regular programming, while I clean myself up. It's very dusty in here...
Outfit. It's plaid, the skirt is new.

  • Jacket - Bianca Nygard, consignment; first worn here in December 2015 with black leather
  • Cami (underneath) - InWear, not tracked
  • Skirt - TKStyle, thrifted; purchased here for $8.00
  • Shoes - Amalfi for Rangoni for Ingledews, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in January with a purple jerkin
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted

I love the collar of the jacket and the cut, and how nicely it all lines up - that's a lot of fabric wasted, and is a mark of quality.

First wearing of this thick woolly sweater skirt - it was very comfortable, and I admired my bum in it!
It has a fin! Like a fish. Like a fishy olive green sweater skirt fish.
Okay, I'm veering into bizarre territory, ha ha.

How do you feel about cream tights? These are the ones that Mom gave me for my birthday, and I wasn't sure about them - they remind me of nurses and very little girls.

Outerwear:
Complete with runners, my bowler and I have burgundy fingerless gloves on (jammed into the pockets. The scarf is by Pierre Balmain.

The stuff:
I like these shoes, but they are on the chopping block. They may be just a little too dated-looking for me.

Ball bling:
Ear-balls!

  • Ear-balls - Christian Dior
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

  1. I am so, so sorry to hear about your blogger friend's tragic loss. Losing her Kitty is the worst of all. Stuff can be replaced but not a living, breathing creature. So sad.

  3. I heard about Jessica's tragedy early (from a Facebook post by her hubby) and thought about e-mailing you the news but held off; there's nothing that could be done then to help and I didn't want to be the messenger of such bad news. Jessica has a long hard road ahead of her and support from us will help buoy her spirits.

    1. It's just so sad, isn't it? I am heartened by the outpouring of money, affection and support from their friends and family, but this hit close to home for me. Thank you so much for your big heart, Ally.

  4. Mim posted about Jessica too, my heart goes out to both of them. What a horrible thing to happen and their poor cat...

That is a lovely jacket and what an unusual skirt. I like the combination of red plaid and olive green on you; I have a red plaid skirt I haven't yet worn so olive green might be good colour to style it with. I think the cream tights looked rather smart on you but do they do remind me of female Sloanes from the 80s wearing velvet Alice bands and pie frill necked blouses!

    Have a great week

Thank you so much, Veronica - olive green just seems to go so well with almost any plaid. I'm not huge on the white/cream tights either - similar image here.

Love your plaid jacket and your shoes, please keep them!!
I love cream stockings if textured, and I think these are.
I love the yuumy knit of that skirt and is muted olive color, perfect with red.

Oh, I plan to keep the jacket/skirt. These are indeed textured tights. Thanks, Elle!

  7. I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to lose all of my stuff, never mind the life of a pet. So very sad for all involved.
I love the pairing of this skirt with the tartan jacket, beautifully done my lovely. Yes, your derriere does warrant a second look in this :) I have cream tights and feel a bit ambivalant about them too!
