Funky Friday: Metal Edition

Happy Freakin' Friday! Holy smokes, this has felt like an eternal week, but we made it!

Metal! After my crappy day yesterday, I put on my armour. Nobody messes with me.

I love this gorgeous blue denim dress. It's stretchy, it has pockets and it fits great. I last wore it here in April with a fruital blouse under it.

Bare arms today, and yes, that bruise on my arm is finally fading, as is my banged-up knee. Two weeks without taking a tumble - woo!  

I had a few compliments on the overall ensemble - I really like how this came together with the mixed metals and the bright blue. Yay!

The stuff:

Such classic snakeskin bronzy shoes! Back in the 80s, my best friend Janet had a pair like these - I always admired them. I last wore these here with blue and leopard in May.

Big badass bling:

I love this belt more and more. I feel like I'm wearing one of those big wrestling title belts, hee hee. I love all of these pieces.

Autumn in Summer, and Black and White and Green All Over

Phew! One more day till the weekend, and it is feeling like a very long week, my friends.

I've been training my other-city counterpart for the last two days - hi, Wendy! - and it's a LOT, both for me to export and for her to import. She's a lovely person and I'm happy to working with her, even though we won't see each other too much. Not much in the world of travel for Admins.

Anyway, I didn't want to scare the heck out of her with my usual crazyass ensembles, so I went more sedate. Is this sedate? I don't even know anymore!

I love this orange top - it's been a long-time favourite. I last wore it on another Thursday, here in April (with sequins!).

The cream satin pencil skirt is another wardrobe staple for me - how is it that I haven't worn these together before? I last wore it here, also in April, with my beautiful kimono blouse that ripped on the next wearing. Sad face.

Just a hint of ink, because I'm badass that way, hee hee.

The stuff:

First wearing of these funky sandals, purchased here for $25.00. They were really comfy for walking around.

Brass bling:

Some of my favourite things, including my spiky Midzo designer cuff.

After work, I went to the baby shower, which consisted of some balloons and a bunch of women drinking wine. That's my kind of baby shower! I went out after for another drink and tottered home to hang out with L.

Today, I went black and white.

This was a really comfy outfit, even though my day was stressful.

This is the first wearing this year of this black pinstriped top. It does up the front with hooks-and-eyes, is nicely fitted through the middle, and has a wonderful portrait collar. I always wear a cami under it, as it's cleavage-o-rama withouth one.

I last wore it here in August in a whackadoo outfit!

The skirt is so swirly - I just love going stairs in it for the way it billows. I last wore it here with pink in May.

The stuff:

All green, all the time! I adore these shoes. They're going to be residents in my closet for a long time. I last wore them here in May with my grandmother's necklace.

Green bling:

These are much more matchy in person, but I always wear them together. The glass necklace is from my mom's childhood (1950s) and the earrings are modern, made from reclaimed plastic). I love how fashion spans the decades!

My day was topped off by a trip to the dentist, so oh, the joy. However, my new dentist is awesome and I was in and out of there in 30 minutes. Woo! The week is looking up!

Tropical Colours and Earle-y Outfit

Back to summer weather! It's now lovely and sunny out - wearing yellow really works!

I guaranteed it today with all this tropical brightness. L really liked this outfit, and I had a lot of compliments on the yellow cardi.

I last wore the lemon cardi here in early June for L's birthday, so he must have a positive association with it.

The little green sweater tank under it was last seen here in May with zebra.

This is the second wearing of the skirt, which debuted here (2nd outfit) in April. I love the bright and sunny print, so perfect for summer!

The stuff:

Lime green shoes and bright green metal flowers! I last wore the shoes with my splatter skirt here earlier this month. The brooch and earrings (clip-ons) are vintage.

I just realized that my whole outfit is thrifted! Go, me!

Tonight, L and I are off to see Steve Earle in concert. This is my 3rd time, and L's 4th (I was recovering from hernia surgery and missed one in the pre-blog era). We last saw him here (4th outfit) in June 2011. The time before that was also pre-blog.

I'm going for comfort. None of the theatres in Victoria are air-conditioned.

Same cardi; I can take it off if it's boiling hot, but it's warm enough for the walk home.

The little cream top underneath was last worn under my crazy lame coat in April here.

This skirt is wonderfully swooshy on its own - it was last seen layered under my Spanish ladies dress here in May. The shoes are also all about comfort and walking (and I can slip them off in the theatre if it's too hot!). I'm surprised to find that I last wore them here in September 2013 - I better get them into the rotation!

And I'm off! I may not be posting tomorrow night, as I am going to a (shudder) baby shower after work, at a restaurant. It's for one of my coworkers who is very dear to me, and it will be a small crowd (with NO babies). Wish me luck! Every time I go to a baby shower, I swear, "Never again!"

Really Red and Much Marigold

It's officially summer and in Victoria, you know what that means: rain! It's not too bad, though, just spitting a bit. I wore my sunshine instead.

Lots of yellow! And red! Edit: and although it's not quite a hat, I am linking up to Judith's one year anniversary of "Hat Attack!" over at Style Crone! Go, go!

I built the outfit around these new-to-me shoes from the antique shop, purchased yesterday here. That's just odd. They are not antiques.

What they are is really comfortable. This is my top end for heel height these days, and not have sore feet by the end of the day.

I matched them up with this lovely ruffly tomato-red blouse, last seen here in April with concrete leather.

I love red and yellow together. This gorgeous marigold yellow wool skirt gets another outfit for being on good behaviour. It was last seen here in May when I gave away the jacket off my back.

The stuff:

I had a few comment about the "mod" look of my outfit. I don't think it was mod overall, but these shoes, with the bangle and earrings plus my head scarf do fit that look. A mini and a boxier top would be more mod.

Yellow bling:

I love this big cuff - best $3.00 I ever spent. The earrings are real Bakelite.

Weekend Wrap Up: A Little of Everything - Lame, Hair, Cat, Shopping

Wow, what a wickedly awesome and cool weekend I have had! So much fun!

Okay, are you ready? And...here we go, this is what I wore to work on Friday.

Only one person said I reminded her of Christmas, and considering I'm wearing gold-y/silver lame (lah-MAY, darling) with red velvet roses, I think that's pretty good.

How do you do something as crazy as this skirt? You casual it up. I'm doing a denim shirt tied at the waist with the cuffs rolled up.

I've had this shirt for a few years - I last wore it here (2nd outfit) in April over yellow. The little silky red cami was last seen here in May with purple and white.

This is the debut of this awesome Skirt of Spectacularity, thrifted here for $19.99. I adore its over-the-top 70s vibe.

It was lovely to wear all day - it's not as stiff as many of the thicker 70s fabrics out there.

The stuff:

I am glad for my gladiators - the kitten heel is a fun take on it, and the pewter leather is a great neutral. I last wore them here on the May long weekend.

Vintage-y bling:

The leather rose is a wrist cuff, and the necklace is from the early 60s.

I had a minute in the morning, so I went looking for the cat to say goodbye. Not to worry, he was walking his beat along the window ledge.

"Cat on patrol, can't talk."

Officer Vizzini was easily distracted and spent a few minutes rolling about on the floor of the deck.

"Roll, roll, roll on the tiles."

He's very squirmy.

"I'm coming over for a session of leg rubbing."

And a pre-work cuddle was had. 

After work, L and I met up with Mom for her birthday present: dinner out and a night at the theatre. Mom and I have a long history of going to the theatre, and have been season ticket holders for many of the local playhouses over the years. We went to see Tom Stoppard's "Rosencrantz and Guidenstern are Dead" at the Langham Court Theatre, which is in the middle of a residential neighbourhood.

I'm ashamed to say that as soon as the lights went down, I was snoozing. Could have been the stressful work week I've had, or could have been the wine. Heh. I have no idea if it was good or not, but the outing itself was a grand time. I love going out to events. 

Saturday morning, we were up bright and early for a game of Ulty! I risked doing Weekend Hair:

As always, I change out of this at the field, then back into it after the game when I'm all disheveled and sweaty. I wear a Carolina Panthers ball cap during the came, and it crushed the hair. I managed to salvage it slightly, but lesson learned.

I'm feeling the end is near for this dress. I've had it for a few years, and didn't pay much for it, but I think I've gotten all I can out of it.

I last wore it here with the identical cardigan.

The cardigan is much more versatile.

 I last wore it here with plaid in May.

The stuff:

First wearing for these new-to-me Born sandals I bought on consignment last weekend (here). The whole thing-between-the-toes is on trial; I'm not a fan of it, so these are a stretch for me. However, I am happy to report that they were excellent for my short venture.

Sputnik bling:

Such a fun shape.

After Ulty, we went for brunch, then came home and decorated our new hidden door bookcase.

"What did you buy me?"

He presides so well over the neighbourhood. I wonder if he's ever seen a cougar (we have those on the island)?

I love how full the oak trees and maple trees get at this time of year. Happy Solstice!

"Crows are nesting in my trees!"

He chatters at them all the time.

We actually did buy him something - a scratching post for the living room to help wean him off the gold chair.

"Hmmm...what is this thing?"

He seemed to figure it out right away, and has been playing with it frequently when we're in the living room.

"I will show this post who is boss!"

What a good boy.

Today, L and I went out for brunch and to spend some gift cards at a mall we don't go to often.

Comfy and funky, that's me!

I love this chartruese-y/olive dress. Such a great colour. This is my first wear of it since I unpacked it at the end of March with the rest of my spring/summer stuff. I should really wear it more - the last time is nearly a year ago to the day, here in June 2013! And I'm wearing the same belt with it, ha!

I had to wear my cowboy boots again, that's why.

 Perfect for wandering about town, getting groceries and then strolling home in the lovely hot sun. Such a nice day.

The stuff:

I actually mixed that hot pink into this outfit as well as the dark red, both from the earrings and my hot pink leather purse. I had compliments on my colours from the ladies at the MAC store.

I wonder how these boots will clean up? I have yet to polish them up. They were last seen here on Monday.

Leather bling:

My lovely leather obi and thrifted leather feather earrings.

I like to browse for cool stuff in antique stores. I was surprised to find these groovy shoes in an antique mall today.

They are leather upper (the patent leather) and are barely worn.

Liz Claiborne...didn't know they did shoes!

I like the rectangle over the top of the vamp - it reminds me of the 60s and 70s.

The heel has a cool shape too.

I recognize the writing on the toe - these were sold at Winners. Probably for more than $22.00, though. A good deal!

Vizzini spent most of today snoozing.

"Leave me alone, woman."

 But I can't resist! He's so cute.

"The red boots again, eh?"

He posed very prettily once I gave him some scritches on the head.

"I'm the epitome of catness."
