Black and Blue at the Belfry, and Coworkers In My Clothes

Hello, my friends, please forgive my lateness in getting today's outfit to you, but I've been out gallivanting with my Theatre Buddies! I had to wear something that would do double duty of all day at the office, followed by dinner out, and then a 2-hour play. No time to change!
I know, right? I'm tired just thinking about it.

  • Long-sleeved mesh top - Jean Paul Gaultier, vintage 80s, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit), in September 2024, layered in a skater look
  • Tunic dress - Junya Watanabe for Comme des Garcons, consignment; purchased here for $225 (less a $100 gift card)
  • Skirt - Lord & Taylor, thrifted; last seen here in November 2024 for a Mom-Day at home in a tiger
  • Shoes - MJUS, consignment; last worn here earlier this month with funky green Adidas
  • Suede coat (below) - Tadmor, vintage 60s, vintage mall; last seen here in January

I haven't done any outfit planning in a while, and I was just staring at this Comme des Garcons thing, thinking, "When am I gonna wear this?" and realized...I should just do it!
"Or, you could let me sleep on it."

What would make it work for the office? Layers! I have a blue camisole on under my "space" mesh shirt.

I added this long viscose t-shirt fabric skirt for a stretchy layer.
But I know you want to see the amazing construction of this thing!

Look how it's gathered, and how it drapes, dips and twists.
It was very comfortable to wear, considering all the walking, sitting, stairs, lugging around boxes, bus-riding, more walking, more sitting and more walking (I certainly deserved 1/6th of the yummy white chocolate cheesecake later!).

My coworkers were impressed with all of this construction.
It was a busy day with an office full of people, so I got to show it off and interact with lots of folks. I love that!

However, people = busy, and I had to get out on time to hop the bus home, feed Vizzini and walk down to the Fernwood Inn to meet my Theatre Buds, Nancy, Yvonne, Randall, Cat and Caro.
This play was "Behind the Moon," by a local playwright (about it here, local review here, all links 'cause I love, of course). Our first of the year! I walked home with Cat afterwards.

Accoutrements:
I was in a blue kind of mood.

  • Scarf - Givenchy, consignment, gift from L
  • Wool beret - consignment
  • Leather gloves - Danier

The stuff:
I missed taking the bling pic as I was in a hurry! These shoes were great for all the walking.

  • Crystal cuff - Swarovski, consignment, gift from L
  • Silver/Lucite bangle - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
  • Necklace - thrifted
  • Crystal/pear ear-ball - Swarovski, consignment
  • Single silver earring - consignment
  • Silver/kyanite ring - consignment
  • Lapis lazuli ring/Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes

I lost one of the pearls from the earrings during the pandemic - I liked the asymmetrical look of one dangling earring.

Bonus pictures of Coworkers In My Clothes!

I am absolutely tickled when someone wears something they got from me (Cat was wearing a pair of my Fluevogs too!).

Gentle Readers, this is Leah. She's wearing this beaded snake blouse from Topshop that y'all might remember.
She got this at my Limbo sale, but has picked up things of mine in years past (her mom is a fan - hi, Leah's mom!).

This is my wonderful coworker Camille, who loves bright colours. This vintage Lady Manhattan blouse looks fantastic with her blazer.
She killed it!

And Carol, who I spotted near the end of the day.
Showing off this awesome striped knit skirt (love the red tights!). Thank you, my dear friends, for getting into slow fashion with me.

And finally, here's our theatre crew, getting ready to order dinner, many drinks and that yummy cheesecake at the Fernwood Inn pub before we go enjoy the play.
From left: Caro, Randall, Nancy, Cat, Yvonne and me! I love you guys. Mwah!

    1. Now I need to try something else, like skinny pants...or wide-legged pants, Lise! Thank you!

  2. Fabulous styling, Sheila, and look at your co-workers rocking your (ex) clothes! I can't believe you let that beaded snake blouse go, though! xxx

    1. Thank you so much, Ann! It warmed my heart to see those on my colleagues. That blouse had ZERO stretch and hasn't fit me well in a few years. No sense in keeping it...it just reminds me that it doesn't fit.

  3. Love the blue skirt and seeing the black tunic! I’m all for trying the tunic with skinny pants. You’ve started a slow fashion club at work and the pieces you highlighted (and your co-workers smiling faces and posing flair :) ) tell me they are having fun with dressing. What a nice influence you’ve been. :)

I love when you go out with your chosen family and especially when it involves theatre! As for the singleton earring…alas, after 57 years my left pierced ear hole closed just a few weeks ago!!! I’ve been wearing singletons ever since; too many lovely earrings to give up! I considered having my ear re-pierced but then read the waiver…Egads, given everything listed I decided it wasn’t worth it. Back when I was 13 my Mom took me (probably to a doctor?) and it was no big deal. Ah well, making a personal fashion statement. :)
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Thanks so much, Laurie! I'm excited to try the tunic out with some other bottoms.
That "ripple effect" is my goal in life - to help others express themselves through their clothes in a circular and sustainable way.
You're practically punk now that you have only one piercing left! ;-P I had my first two piercings done in t-shirt shops (with the stapler-like "gun"), but the other three were done professionally (MUCH better). If you ever decide to go that route, check out a tattoo place with a person who has been professionally trained. There are also ear-cuffs and other ear jewelry you can wear without having a piercing!

  4. Hmmm, I hadn’t thought of ear cuffs, thanks for the suggestion! Am now wondering…if I could find ear cuffs in an assortment of colors to match the colors of my earrings…orange, red, turquoise, green, brown, white, blue. I will keep my eyes open!

    1. Check local places that carry lots of earrings (we have Claire's in Canada). You might also find local artist who would make them. :)

  5. So cool to see clothes shared. People used to do it all the time twenty or thirty years ago- we just need to start doing it again. Your co-workers are looking very stylish. And so are you!
Theatre dates are always special. It's so nice to spend time with friends.

    1. Those aren't shared - my colleagues BOUGHT them! :) But I love seeing them worn!
