I'm debuting both the gold fish belt and the golden velvet blazer. I had mixed reactions to them, but both are staying with me.
- Velvet blazer - Loft, consignment; purchased here for $44.00
- Cashmere sweater - Prada, consignment; last worn here earlier this month with velvet and Dame Viv
- Silk skirt - Strawberry Jill, thrifted; last seen here in January 2024 with mustard
- Boots - Clarks, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in October 2024 for bronzy brunch
- Leather trenchcoat - vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here in January
My skirt usually gets a lot of attention - I've had it since 2017 and I also have a newer-to-me version of it in a different size and colourway (last seen here).
I have owned many, many velvet blazers and jackets over the years, and one thing I have learned is that you can't wear coats over them without inducing Velvet Rage.
Velvet blazers turn into Velcro when they touch other fabrics. I know this, but I have never quite LEARNED this lesson, and my mind says, "Oh, this time it will be fine!"
I enjoyed wearing it like this, layered over a cashmere sweater. I'd wear it just like this plus a scarf/hat on a warmer day. I love the cut of it.
My colleague Lesley's eyes lit up and she asked to touch it. Such a great colour!
Without the jacket, which I did not take off.
The elastic belt, the sweater and the skirt (which sits high on me) all had discussions and disagreements over the day. I was constantly fussing with everything. I lasted about two blocks in my coat before the velvet blazer started working its evil spell.
The rain held off until late afternoon, but I was ready for it.

- Hat - Edward Mann, vintage 60s, thrifted
- Horse scarf - vintage, thrifted
- Leather/fur gloves - thrifted
Yellow bling:
The fish belt was good, but I think it will be better over a more structured waist. My coworker Glenn said the tail looked like a pineapple. I'm seeing it! Maybe that's why the fish looks so grumpy?

Your outfit is a sight for sore eyes, Sheila. The skirt is one of my many favourites from your closet, and the velvet jacket couldn't have been a more perfect companion. I am hearing you on the velvet rage, though, but I'm glad to hear it's still a keeper. I'm swooning over your bling, which not only includes that gorgeous ant brooch (another favourite) but that amazing fish which caught my eye when you bought it too. I think that fish generally do look a bit grumpy, but yes, that's definitely a pineapple! xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Ann! I was so pleased how the jacket and skirt went together. I wasn't overly rage-y (having set my expectations low!) about it clinging to the trenchcoat's lining.
DeleteIt's totally a frilly pineapple-y fish tail!
I love all the colors and shades of this outfit! Also like the necklace with its contrast between stones, the eelskin bracelet (although it makes me grimace) and the amber ring, which reminds me of the topaz birthstone ring I had when in high school. Goodness knows what eventually happened to it!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Laurie
Aw, thank you, Laurie! Isn't it funny how things can transport us back in time, and remind us of items we used to have?
DeleteYes, I enjoy when that happens, a present item or event inviting in a memory from the past. Ah, the ‘filing system’ of the brain and memory. :)
DeleteSuch luscious colours and textures! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYour outfit sounds like an absolute golden dream! ✨ That velvet blazer is pure luxe, and I can totally relate to the "Velvet Rage" struggle—velvet really does have a mind of its own. But hey, fashion is about making a statement, and it sounds like you rocked it!
ReplyDeleteThe fish belt is such a quirky, fabulous touch—whether it’s a fish or a pineapple, it definitely has personality. And that vintage leather trench? Chef’s kiss! Love how you mix consignment and thrifted pieces so effortlessly.
Also, major respect for braving the wind with a fedora that actually stayed on! That’s a true style win. Looking forward to more fabulous outfit breakdowns from you!

Thanks very much for your lovely comment, Melody! I love mixing vintage in with "less vintage" - it makes vintage look less costume-y. It's a rare hat that can resist a stiff wind!
DeleteGold perfection. Such a glam look, I love it!
