Floral and Brights, Taupe Nails

Brights always make me feel better - do they work for you? Especially since I've been hit with pollen allergies all of a sudden. Not quite spring, but my sinuses say otherwise.
I had many positive reactions to this today, and the yellow skirt made me feel so cheery. Could also have been the allergy medication. Weeeee!

  • Blouse - Cabi, consignment; purchased here on the weekend for $22.98
  • Skirt - BB Dakota, consignment; last worn here a week ago with Etro
  • Shoes - Amalfi for Ingledews, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen here in December with a Christmas tree skirt
  • Coat (below) - Danier Leather, thrifted

This blouse is a titch too big on me, but pair any oversized blouse - tucked in!- with a pencil skirt and pow! There you go!
I love those big random dahlias. The blouse was lovely to wear - it's a really nice polyester. I wore a red cami underneath, but I was a little too boobtastic at work, so I did up another button.

Outerwear:
My thrifted vintage 80s red hat makes a return (it was raining this morning, and I wanted some colour), along with my thrifted fur boa and my Parkhurst grey gloves.

A few of you mentioned that you would have liked to have seen the texture of this nubby wooly skirt the last time I wore it. Well, here you go.
It's a fine boucle (boo-clay!) knit with a bit of stretch. The skirt is lined in the same marigold yellow, in satin. Such a glorious colour.

The stuff:
I was *this close* to tossing these shoes, but one wear, and no way, man. These are keepers. So comfy!

Round bling:
Red/orange, yellow and blue - you can't go wrong with primary colours.

  • Necklace - Banana Republic, consignment
  • Ear-balls - Dior
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes

This week's nail polish is called "Night Life" and it's by Rimmel Playfast (another quick-dry).
I'm not 100% taken with the colour, although it's a nice neutral. I don't know that taupe is very "me." Thoughts?

  1. Love the outfit, Sheila. I wasn't sure about the blouse in the first photo you took of it, but paired with the yellow skirt it is stunning. Such an interesting print. I agree with you about the nail polish -- it's not necessarily "you."

    1. Thank you, Cynthia! I'm fond of patterned blouses, and I love this one. The polish will stay on for a week - it is a good neutral.

  2. Such a colourful and spring-like outfit! Shame that you've been unwell, hope you're feeling better! I do really like the floral blouse and yellow skirt together, perfect!

I like that nail polish colour on you but if it's one you're unsure about I say try a different one instead! You have a great collection of more fun colours to wear :)

    1. Gah, allergies suck, but I can deal, thanks, Mica! I do have lots of colours of polish, so yes, on to the next one next week!

  3. I don't think you're a taupe kind of nail girl ...
However I adore the extra large dark florals blouse. I have to admit it looked ok on the hanger but on you it looks superb.

    1. It's been growing on me over the week. It certainly takes the pressure off having to match to my clothes! Thank you! Sometimes stuff just looks better on than it does ont the hanger.

  5. Marigold bouclé-- Yes! Love it with the bold floral blouse and exquisite red shoe and hat. Pretty statement necklace too. SO bright, I imagine you would get people stopping and smiling. I would if I saw you dressed like that. Thanks for the nail polish recommendation, i have been using sally hansen, but the last two colors did not apply evenly.. i like this color alot.

    1. Thank you! You can't go wrong with primary colours! I don't know if Rimmel still makes this stuff - I didn't see anything by them last time I was in the drug store.

  6. Great pairing trick with this generous blouse, and oh how I adore this yellow skirt. Who wouldn't feel sunny wearing this?

I have a bright green boucle skirt similar to yours but the hemline is a bit wonky. I must try to mend it as it's lovely otherwise.

    1. Thank you! If only the real sun would stay out. Ooh, your skirt sounds pretty!

  7. Gold (or yellow) and red go beautifully together - you can't go wrong with two happy colours like that. I'm not keen on neutral-coloured nail polish (except black), but I don't wear any because my nails split and look like crap after a couple of hours. I really like the sparkly manicures you've done in the past.

    1. Agreed! I'm not a huge fan of this taupe, but here we are a week later and it's still not chipped off (a little worn at the tips, though). I like the sparkles too, but they are rough on the nails/hard to get off.
