Black for Grandma, and the Funky Chicken

Yesterday, L and I spent the day going to to his grandma's memorial. It was a 3 hour drive, then over an hour on the ferry (and of course, you have to wait for the ferry) - each way! We got up at 5am and didn't get home until 10pm. I'm still exhausted.

I like to wear mostly black for memorials/funerals:
I've only worn this dress once (here) - I know, shameful. It's a wicked dress.

Because Grandma was a Wonder Woman, this one's for her!
The dress has a tie belt, which I've tied into a bigass bow. Usually, I toss such belts and use my own, but I really like the look of the bow.

I added the blue suede shoes, my Dad's scarf, and my yellow jacket in case it got chilly:
It did not, but I looked very chic carrying around my yellow jacket all day. I tied the scarf to the strap of my black bag.

Dress (Esprit), jacket (Danier Leather), shoes (Feet First), scarf (60s vintage), earrings (don't remember), cuff (St. Paul's Cathedral, London).

Today, back to work. I picked up this dress for $9.99 at Dots while I was waiting for the bus to get my hair cut on Monday night:
Classic! I am also thrilled that it does not wrinkle (and it's 100% cotton, go figure) across the bum from sitting at my desk.

I layered my floopy skirt under it (worn layered before here and here) for fun and to show off my awesome yellow boots (as previously seen here, here, here, here, and here).

It was only when I realized that I sort of resembled a chicken. Bu-kawk!
I'm a bit more Super Chicken than Wonder Woman today!

The skirt floofed out when I walked:
I felt like dancing!

The stuff:
Yep, those are yellow boots! Yellow boots!

A close-up:
The leather cuff is new too. It was $3.99 at Dots.

Dress (Coupe), skirt (no label, consignment), belt (Plum), boots (Aldo, consignment), cuff (Dots), earrings (Shi Studio).

Double Challenge: Summer Black-Out and Summer Capsule Wardrobe - Day 5

Today's the last day of the Summer Capsule Wardrobe Challenge! It's been fun but I'm tired of wearing the same clothes. I broke out the green blouse for the 3rd time, and put it with the pencil pants.
Inigo helped this morning.

I had planned to do my red belt, but it only fit right at my waist, so I used the blue one instead.

It was cloudy and cool this morning - the average temperature here right now has been around 13-15 C (58-63 F), so I need a jacket in the morning - sorry, Jane! I'm not counting this piece of outerwear either. I only wore it outside, I promise!
The stuff:
Man, I love those sandals. I love all the mixes of oranges and reds together too.
I wore the "S" Scrabble tile pin on my jean jacket. The Lady in Flames necklace is actually a domino so I thought they went well together. Hmmm...I just noticed the black beads! Ack!

Blouse (Esprit), pants (Noa Noa), belt (Denver Hayes, gift from Ruth), shoes (Rinaldi), necklace (gift from L), earrings (vacation), tile (someone local), bracelet (Plum), jean jacket (Ann Taylor Loft).

Double Challenge: Summer Black-Out and Summer Capsule Wardrobe - Day 4

I went to see "Sex and the City 2" with Elaine last night (didn't like it - but I got to see Wendy B's earrings!!), so by the time I got home I was too tired to post my outfit for Day 4 of the challenges.
I dressed up, of course, so layered the silk top over Day 1's dress. Unfortunately, when I planned all these outfits last Sunday, the weather was gorgeous and warm...but this week it's been rainy and cold. I'm sorry, I had to include outerwear:
This brown sweater was necessary for me to go outdoors! I hope Jane won't begrudge me outerwear (I had to put on a jacket today/Friday as well).

The stuff:

Neutral shoes, my groovy leather cuff (the dark pattern is green, not black!), and my new belt from Dorothy Perkins in London. I do love a bigass belt.

Dress (Maggy London), blouse (Zara, consignment), shoes (Seychelles, consignment), belt (Dorothy Perkins), cuff (Catalyst Leather), earrings (gift from L), cardigan (Jacob).

Double Challenge: Summer Black-Out and Summer Capsule Wardrobe - Day 2

Today brings items 3 and 4, another top and a bottom. Trying to pick interesting items that aren't all neutrals (because why make it easy, haha) has been...a challenge. The no-black thing? Not an issue.
This is my favourite silky boho top, and those are my recently purchased "pencil" pants. I had fun in this - I felt very "out there" in my boring office (not you, Ruth). Especially since my Senior VP was in town again and in the cubicle next to mine. Why does he always come here when I'm doing a challenge?

The stuff:
Pretty standard matchy stuff. All favourites.

A shot of the stuff on me:
I'm looking down and laughing because someone's poking around in my closet:
He loves hanging out there with me.

Blouse (Zara, consignment), pants (Noa Noa), shoes (Le Chateau), belt (Plum), earrings (Plum, gift from L), ring (Fossil), shiny bracelet (The Bay), other bracelet (vintage, 1960s, Mom's).

Spring Has Sprung

Despite getting off to a rocky start, Spring/this week/this day has finally gotten sunny. I felt very Spring-y today, even after a little April shower caught Ruth and I while we were out for our lunch walk.

I planned this outfit around this new-to-me jacket that my dear friend Caro gave me last weekend:
I haven't worn this dress since I got it last autumn, here. It's going to be a great dress for summer, as even without a jacket on, it's still very much appropriate for work - not too cleavage-y or cut big around the armholes. And it was a bargain at $9. AND it's washable.

L didn't like these shoes with this, but I do. The turquoise ones would have been too matchy.
Yes! Those shoes right there! Hee, I'm giddy...thank goodness this week is almost over.

The jacket is the softest, thinnest corduroy, and it's beautifully worn in. The label inside (it's Gap) says it's Spring '06.

The stuff:
I found the black bracelet in a gift shop a couple of weeks ago: $9.99 on sale - it's eco-plastic, lightweight, and ooh, they have tattoo designs for your arms. Groovy!

Dress (Alfred Sung, thrifted), jacket (Gap, gift from Caro), shoes (Seychelles, consignment), bracelet (Batucada), earrings (vacation).

Mucking About...And a Birthday Outfit for Ruth

Happy Birthday, Ruth! Too bad you didn't get to see this outfit in person.
I found some new shoes last night on the way home. They called to me.

Hard to see in the above picture, but I'm wearing fishnets! Woo, sexy for work...probably not appropriate, but only about 10 people saw me in the entire building all day. Ah, well.

The stuff:
I forgot to pack earrings today. Aren't those shoes amazing? And yes, that's a bandaid that I'm using to "size" my ring. Oh, the shame!

As you can see, I've been mucking about with my blog colours and layout. I get tired of the same old thing. Thoughts?

Dress (Max Studio), shoes (Qupid, consignment), necklace (don't recall), ring (Fossil), ring (vintage, Sarah Cov).
