Coral Cocoon and Turquoise

When I saw that the temps were going to spike into 30-31 degrees, I knew it was time to wear this silk and cotton dress.
Not that I've been delaying wearing it - there are only so many days, and I have a lot of dresses!

  • Silk/cotton dress - COS, consignment; last worn here in June 2024 with snake-print shoes
  • Shoes - Prepare Guide, Fluevog; last seen here (2nd outfit) for a July brunch

My love for fit-and-flare dresses has waned somewhat from my heyday of 10 years or so ago, but I still like them, especially when I get an intriguing shape like this.
It's a mullet-bell! Or we just call it a cocoon, which is what I've done since I got it 4+ years ago.

Incognito and wearing my long narrow scarf as sun coverage.
I knotted each end to make a loop like a cuff, and voila! I have a pair of sleeves that keep the sun off my arms and the back of my neck.

And I don't have to wear a coat!
Just the thought of it makes me break out in a sweat!

Accoutrements and stuff:
I pulled the coral dress, thought of the necklace, and then the shoes joined it. Just like that, outfit built.

  • Silk scarf - Metropolitan Museum of Art, thrifted

Red and turquoise bling:
I mixed orange and red since the dress is a coral shade.

  • Turquoise stone bracelet - thrifted, Sidney
  • Carved cinnabar bangle - consignment
  • Turquoise/gold ring - Karen's
  • Silver/turquoise multi-stone ring - consignment; purchased here for $48.00
  • Steel/Lucite ring - Calvin Klein, thrifted
  • Silver/turquoise ring - Glee
  • Silver/turquoise earrings - Mexican, consignment
  • Silver, turquoise, coral necklace - Nepali, consignment

This is one of my favourite mixes of jewelry colours - it's so rich! I'm always on the lookout for pretty turquoise.

  2. Swoon! I love absolutely everything about this outfit Sheila! Coral and turquoise is such an uplifting colour combo. The dress is gorgeous, and I love how you used that fabulous scarf as sun coverage. Quite a few covetable pieces in your red and turquoise bling as well. That necklace really is a stunner! xxx P.S. It seems that we are sharing weather!

    1. I liked this outfit, even if it felt a little lazy to me (as dresses often do), Ann. I adore coral and turquoise together, though! I hope your weather cools off soon!

  3. Mmm yes, coral and turquoise are a lush blend! Your outfit is elegant! The colors, the dress shape, the creative way you use the scarf (and it’s colors go so perfectly with the dress, of course!) - I love the entire ensemble from head to toe! Plus the colors are uplifting. :)

  4. The dress is a silken dream! I adore wearing silk in the hot weather- feels so nice! I have two silk mini skirts (both charity-shopped) which I adore wearing! You look so pretty and the looping of the scarf is genius! I am going to try it!

    1. It's just right on a hot day, Kezzie! A big silky skirt would be wonderful when the temps are up. Yay! I love this method of keeping covered, and you can just undo it, and no problem with the scarf!
