Today was my 15th anniversary of my job! I love what I do - although I can grumble mightily at times - and I adore my coworkers and vice versa.

I thought it would be fun to riff on what I wore for my first day of work here in March 2011:
You might recognize the Le Chateau plaid bustier - I still have it! I couldn't find it, or I would have worn it!
This is my version of "toned down" for the new job. I wore cufflinks and a bustier, ha ha!
I was hired for a different job, then moved to reception at another office.
Now, I'm an office manager, facilities coordinator, executive assistant and a finance specialist - a Sheila of All Trades. And I'm still dressing wacky!
I started with the white shirt and the bustier, landing on this stretchy copper one.
Just like with my First Day fit, I did a funky skirt.
And instead of a blazer, my lightly-structured Issey Miyake jacket.
There's a High Degree of Difficulty styling here, which I just want to show off! I tied the tie in a half-bow instead of the traditional knot, and layered the ball necklace over it.
And I put copper clip-on earrings through the unbuttoned shirt cuffs as decoration! I saw someone on Substack do this with the front placket of a shirt and thought it was a GENIUS idea. Such a good way to wear your clip-ons!
Once I flipped the shirt cuffs over the jacket, I didn't want to "ruin" the look, but I had planned to wear the outfit without it.
I loved wearing this skirt again - the side pocket is excellent. Incognito. It was freezing in the morning...
And I was dripping with sweat in the afternoon! I'm going to need to swap my coats over to Early Spring/Leather Weather soon.

Fifteen years is a milestone most definitely! Congratulations! What a grand way to celebrate by creating a similar yet updated version of your first-day work outfit! I would venture a guess that most of us who worked wouldn’t even remember what we wore on the first day of a long-held job; I certainly don’t! But, not all of us has an amazing blog that serves as diary of clothes and life’s adventures. I may have asked you this once before so apologies for repetition, but did you keep a diary in the pre-computer days?

I kept a diary from 12-19 years old (I still have them all), then kind of stopped in my 20s. When blogs were at their heyday, I started to include more and more of my "real life" in the posts - it's been amazing, as it's really helped my memory for events!
DeleteCongratulations on 15 years! I'm up to 19 I think at the end of this year!
ReplyDeleteI love your metallic bustier look. It looks so chic over the shirt, tie and skirt! Your first outfit was also v cool!
