"I'll admit, it does look tasty."
I built the outfit around the burn-out velvet (aka Devoré) robe that I thrifted recently.
- Velvet fringed robe - Forever 21, thrifted; purchased here for $11.95
- Crinkle top - Baden Baden, consignment; last seen here in June with bronze Burberry
- Skirt - Marc Cain, thrifted; last worn here in October 2023 with a velvet pirate jacket
- Shoes - Truth Luisa, Fluevog; last seen here in September 2023 with a lovely Jammy dress
- Coat (below) - Donna Karan, consignment; last worn here on Monday
"You're making it sound even yummier."
I'm happy to report zero issues with those dangers - my jewelry was far more snagtastic, causing holes in my lacy tights.
You can the robe is old Forever 21 by how they've attempted to line up the pattern down the back. This is probably the same era as my Grape Ape coat.
The skirt is a nice tweed, very comfortable. I like the raw fringed edges and the band of lace around the hem.
I layered a sleeveless crinkle-textured top underneath, a good backdrop for my Brutalist jewelry.
I considered belting the robe - I might try that for its next outing.

Outerwear! Speaking of the Grape Ape, I noticed it wasn't in my closet! I panicked at first but no, I'd just tossed it on top of my mink in my archive area. Phew!
This coat worked perfectly over the robe - the fringe didn't cling to the slippery nylon.

Accoutrements:
The stuff:
I'm doing poorly with these shoes - I've only worn them 6 times in three years! That magenta pinky-purple doesn't go with much in my closet. Maybe I need to just buy a matching lipstick and commit to neutrals with them.
This fur boa has been an old friend for many years.
- Fur boa - Danier Leather, thrifted
- Toque - thrifted
- Leather gloves - consignment

Brutalist bling:
These bits are some of my favourite accessories.

- Necklace and both bracelets - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, vintage mall, all gifts from L
- Square ring - thrifted
- Volcano ring - vintage 70s, Mom's

Vizzini's been eager to get in the hallway lately. I managed to grab him for some cuddle time.
"That's the best."
It sure is, little buddy.
Heel height (nice and low), shoe color and clips that one hundred percent mimic brutalist combine to suggest YES to a matching lipstick so they have more wearing opportunity. As an alternative for this outfit next time would you consider a top in a ‘close enough’ similar color as the shoes? I like the skirt for its visual interest and perfect length, and definitely like the robe especially as it doesn’t snag etc! I had an inspirational flash of the robe with one of your brightly color pants…
ReplyDeleteCheers, Laurie
When I was shopping yesterday, I was focused on looking for that magenta colour - it's really hard to find! I must spend some time at the drugstore looking for lipstick!
DeleteI do agree, it's a lot of black - I wanted a top that would harmonize, but didn't have anything (clean) that would work. I would love to wear the robe with some fun trousers, great idea, thanks, Laurie!
Love the burn out velvet. I have something similar in my wardrobe - minus the fringes. I think you're right about maybe belting it, so people get to see those lovely fringes from the front.
ReplyDeleteI do like patterned tights but know that they wouldn't last 5 minutes with me. It's soul destroying snagging a gorgeous pair of tights on the first wear! I wear Snagz tights, which I've so far managed to keep in tact!
Me too - I love the fringed versions the most. I do want to belt it next time.
DeleteSnagging tights can be heart-breaking, right? Thanks for the tip on the brand, Claire!
I'm glad to hear that the fringed Devoré robe was well-behaved, as it's a gorgeous piece. I've got a couple of Forever 21 things still in my wardrobe from the days when they had a shop near my office in Antwerp, which I guess has turned them into slow fashion by now :-) I had no idea the Grape Ape was Forever 21 as well ...
ReplyDeleteThe shoes are stunning, so yes to wearing them with neutrals and magenta lipstick! xxx
It was so well-behaved, it's earned a spot in the closet, Ann! I know, shocking that the Grape Ape is also F21, right?
DeleteI agree - I need to work to incorporate them into more outfits!
I have missed you and your wonderful creative ideas with clothing.

DeleteWhat a fantastic styling. I love the dark tights with that gorgeous circular pattern. A match made in heaven with the purple shoes.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Ivana!
DeleteThe devore duster is fab, one of my favourite colours in the Winter months.
ReplyDeleteI can second Clare's recommendation for Snag tights, mine are years old, they come in amazing colours, are ethically made and recyclable, too! xxx
Thanks for the double recommendation!
