Sparkle Week! Seasonal Sparkle

Welcome to the mid-way point of Sparkle Week! My company's doing a Jeans Week all week, but I don't do jeans (unless they are sparkly Versace mom-jeans), so I'm being sparkly instead. And there are all kinds of ways to sparkle.
Today, I'm sporting all of my seasonal Christmas stuff. My most obvious sparkle is this completely badass vintage 70s maxi skirt, but I have some other festive things in my bling today. How to make this not quite so in-your-face, since the skirt is the main focus? Ground it with a neutral sweater.

  • Sweater - Lacoste, thrifted; last worn here (3rd outfit) in April for a stroll to town
  • Skirt - no label, handmade, vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here way back in December 2014 on Christmas Eve (note that I'm wearing neutrals again there)
  • Shoes - Amalfi for Ingledews, vintage 80s, thrifted; last worn here in October with red plaid
  • Coat (below) - Apparence, vintage 80s, thrifted

My company had a bake sale this morning (I don't bake, but I bought things other people baked, brought them in and sold them), which was held at my desk, followed by a massive client meeting that was catered. I was in constant "hostess" mode, cleaning, bussing plates and tidying up. That was basically my entire day. I am exhausted.

However, isn't this a super-awesome shiny skirt? It is not as stiff as it looks - it's very soft.
For Mica, who asked me about wearing maxi skirts in winter, this is what you do when you're walking and the skirt touches the ground.
Grab a big handful of fabric and go! This is how I navigated all over town on the weekend in the Muppet skirt - it actually drags on the ground otherwise. For this skirt, it doesn't hit the ground, so I'm good - I can take long steps in it, so the only time I did the "skirt manoeuver" was going up stairs.

It's the Unsafe Polar Bear! We are apparently in some sort of "polar vortex" here in my part of the world and we're in for more cold weather (info link here, because I like to read this sort of thing). It's supposed to snow more on Saturday, waaa!

Anyway, I'm whining, but I'm also doing more neutrals with my vintage long gloves (thrifted), my Danier fur scarf, and my Wooden Ships toque.

The stuff:
These shoes were okay, not particularly comfy. They may be ready to leave me. But such a nice low heel, and such a fab red! Sigh. My quest for the perfect red shoes continues (she said, owning several pairs of red shoes already).

Seasonal bling:
My two Christmas tree pins, and my Met snowflake set.

  • Bracelet/earrings - Metropolitan Museum of Art, c. 2002
  • Big tree pin - gift from Ev
  • Little tree pin - Avon

Because I don't like wearing logos, I covered up the Lacoste alligator with the trees.
"Rar, Christmas tree! I'm gonna eat you!"
Yes, I like having fun with my clothes.

  1. Aaah I know the maxi skirt clutching well, I have to do it all the time wit stairs or I end up "walking" up the skirt, if you know what mean, haha. If I ever get faced with a snowy destination I know I can easily make my maxi skirts work now, thank you!

This skit is a beauty too. So Christmasy and perfectly sparkly for sparkle week!

    1. Yes, I know exactly what you mean. I also have to watch them with my office chair or I'll roll the chair wheels into the skirt. Maxis are even better in winter - you can wear pants under them and no one will know! Thanks, Mica!

  2. That is an exceptionally gorgeous skirt! Best bloggy Christmas outfit I've seen so far.

  3. What a lovely skirt - it's absolutely Christmassy! I love your Christmas bling, too!

I tried to copy and paste a picture of me wearing sparkly bling today on here but it wouldn't work....

    1. Thank you, Veronica! If you like, drop me an email (click my profile) with your pics - I will upload your pictures and link back to you in tonight's post.

  4. Oh wow, this is one of the prettiest skirts I have seen. Have you worn this with a crisp button down ? I think it would also look amazing.

    1. Yes, I've worn it with a white shirt (not a plain button-down, yuck, I don't own one of those, too boring for me). Thanks, Lorena!

  5. Wowzer with that skirt my dear! It's truly festive fun, but in the most stylish of ways. You're so right about not overdoing things around this skirt and all of your neutral pieces are just right. I love that shot of you all snuggled up in fur and fluffy layers - let winter come eh?

    1. I knew you would love this skirt, Anna! I am quite through with winter, though. No more snow!

  6. I love your sparkling skirt, and it looks lovely with red shoes and xmas themed bling!, gorgeous!
I like maxi skirts but I'm always in risk of having an accident when I wear them!

    1. Thank you! Yes, maxis do require extra vigilance when wearing them!

  7. loving sparkle week, thank you so much for sharing. This skirt is stunning!
