The Debut of the Mr. Darcy Coat

Hello, my friends! My colourful armour helped me immensely today - my brain was tired by the end of the day.
Looking at my orange legs gave me strength and confidence. Orange Boss Pants!

  • Turtleneck - Papillon, thrifted; first worn here in January under a coat-dress
  • Pants - Long Tall Sally, consignment; last seen here in November 2024 with a sequined cardi
  • Boots - Coffee Kope Tiam, Fluevog; last worn here (2nd outfit) to Tony/Alison's party
  • Mr. Darcy Coat (below) - Handmade by Sheila (not me), vintage, consignment; purchased here for $80.00

Second wearing of this cream knit mock-neck that I was unhappy with first time around. It was much better behaved with this outfit and has earned a reprieve.
I tucked it into my trousers and amped up my accessories (how unlike me).

I should have saved this look for a day when I was primarily in my outerwear, because it's clearly the star. Gentle Reader, I give you...the Mr. Darcy Coat.
It was named by longtime reader and commenter and friend, Laurie. We met in June 2018 (here) when she and her family came to Victoria - we had a grand day, didn't we, Laurie? Hi, Fred!

Back to the coat! My friends, it flapped like wings as I walked, flashing the orange trousers.
It was a thing of wonder and delight!

I have a little friend on my shoulder.
I think a big scarf under the collar would look good. Next time!

Accoutrements:
My Emma Peel Spy Fedora, yet I was not incognito. The weather's grey, damp and generally gloomy.

  • Wool hat - Edward Mann, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Fur scarf - thrifted
  • Long leather gloves - Club Monaco, consignment

The stuff:
My old faithful taupe boots. These are 14 years old now!

70s bling:
I chatted 70s fashion with colleague Viz (not the cat) today - it's an era of fashion I enjoy, as I remember it well (same with the 80s, although the 90s are a bit of a blur).

  • Orange bangle - thrifted
  • Eelskin/gold bangle - fake Gucci, Italy, c. 1987, gift from Mom & Dad
  • Feather ring - Fossil, thrifted
  • Brass ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Necklace/earrings - Robert Lee Morris, consignment, Vancouver

Additional bits:
My leopard belt is getting worn out, so putting another on my "someday" radar.

  • Silk scarf - Lanvin, vintage 70s, thrifted
  • Belt - Talbots, thrifted
  • Tiger brooch - vintage, consignment, gift from L
I liked the scarf jauntily tied over the necklace.

Someone was getting in the way while I uploaded my photos.
"That camera cord looks delicious."

  1. First things first, Fred says “Hi Sheila!” Okay, next, upon seeing the coat’s name my face went into a super wide smile. :) Honored to be responsible for that! And yes, we had a fabulous time visiting with you in, oh my gosh, 2018. Special to connect in person and across the continent! Seven years ago…yikes, I hadn’t wound down my teaching career yet, the world was a very different place! We fell in love with Victoria thanks to your guidance, plus all your blog posts sharing your forays into town help to cement my sense of your wonderful part of the world.

I need your outfit today! Strong boss lady pants and a bright top, a super way to move through the world!
    Hugs dear friend, Laurie

    1. Yeah, I had to build the outfit around the coat...so the underneath ended up a bit dull.
