Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Sneaky Adidas and Elf Boots; Red Bustier at the Diner and a Wee Shop; Dinner and Concert in Glam Sparkle

Welcome back, my friends! I hope you had a stellar weekend, with absolutely no stress whatsoever. I know, we can dream.

Let's get right to it - I have outfits to share, from Friday's funky folds, to Saturday brunch (and a wee shop), followed by a swanky dinner out and the Jon & Roy Holiday Special at the Royal Theatre!

Friday's fun outfit - I built it around the belt by matching it to my green boots...which is why I bought the belt in the first place. Matchy forever!
A classic formula outfit - funky skirt, graphic/band tee, cool jacket, groovy footwear, awesome accessories. I have it down pat!

  • Jean jacket - G-Star Raw, consignment, Powell River; last worn here in August over a pleated dress
  • T-shirt - Adidas, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in February, also very sneaky
  • Skirt - Megan Salmon Somersault Sculpted Pleat Skirt, Fountainhead collection, Winter 2020, thrifted; last seen here in February with a landscape-y shirt (now in Limbo)
  • Boots - Bond Girl, Fluevog X Anna Sui; last seen here in May for a stroll on the harbour for Mom's birthday

I'm pointing out now that I have a bunch of pins on my jacket's pocket - I tend to wear brooches on my left side.
The skirt is by an Australian designer and it's utterly gorgeous to wear.

I love all the folds and asymmetry, and it doesn't wrinkle, being 95% wool.
My jean jacket gave me extra warmth and added that requisite toughness - but tailored! It's longer in the front.

I always enjoy sneaking in a wearing of a traditional piece of athletic wear, like a t-shirt with a brand name on it. I was looking for a top with a hint of green in it (matchy) and found this tee while pawing through my "soft top" drawer.
Oh yeah, this one!

Outerwear!
I walked to and from work in my green boots and managed to dodge the rain. I loved wearing them.

Accoutrements:
Colleague Camille loved my Marimekko scarf. "It's puffy!"

  • Scarf - Marimekko, consignment
  • Wool beret - consignment
  • Leather gloves - Picabo, Powell River

The stuff:
I know, right? These are amazing boots, and I love them forever and ever.

Bold bling:
The belt is very supple leather, although a little snug in the buckle, which I'm sure will ease up over time.
  • Croft belt - Fluevog; purchased here for $69.00
  • Leather/steel cuff - Rimanchik
  • Leather studded cuff - Guess, thrifted
  • Silver/enamel ring - antique shop, Sidney
  • Silver poison ring - Karen's
  • Silver/malachite earrings - vintage fair, purchased here for $30.00
  • F-This/F-That and "You Look Great" pins - Fluevog, free
  • Cthulhu pin - gift from Cat/Ross

I got an internal giggle out of my buttons and pin.

After a fun-filled evening of Ark Nova and music, L and I were up early to meet Nick for brunch at John's Place. I am in Seasonal Dressing Mode, which means I'll be wearing shiny, sparkly, glitter and bold colours.
In addition to being festive, wearing this sort of stuff when it's dark and gloomy and raining out makes me happy.

  • Satin blouse - Madam Q, thrifted; last worn here in September, layered under a fin top
  • Cotton bustier - H&M, consignment; purchased here for $32.00
  • Silk skirt - Tangerine Jill, thrifted; first worn here in September with a pop-art cardigan
  • Leather boots - Stuart Weitzman, consignment; last seen here in November with classic plaid
  • Poncho (below) - Bodybag by Jude, consignment, gift from L; last worn here in November

I twirled for my favourite servers, who always like to see what I'm wearing.
The reds matched better in real life - the bustier looks more orange here.

I liked this look - would do it again!
This is why I keep a few button shirts in my closet - they are handy for layering.

I did have to pull the satin shirt down a few times, but overall this worked.
The skirt is so pretty - I love the silk shantung squares.

Poncho'd up!
I had a mission after brunch!

While L headed out to finish up his holiday shopping, I wandered home up Fort Street.
I felt very Christmassy and cheery.

Accoutrements:
The bag is hiding under the poncho in the pics above.

  • Leather purse - Lodis, thrifted
  • Silk scarf - Elaine Gold, vintage, consignment
  • Toque - gift from Tammy
  • Brooch - Monet, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Leather gloves - Echo, consignment

The stuff:
I didn't wear a lot of layers, so relied on my boots to keep my legs warm.

Gold bling:
The two tree brooches were on the collar of the poncho.

  • Necklace - Givenchy, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Mini tree pin - Avon
  • Large tree brooch - Keyes, gift from Ev
  • Snake double ring - consignment
  • Brass leopard ring - thrifted
  • Gold-plated ear-cuffs - consignment
  • Collar points - vintage, consignment
  • Hinged eelskin bangle - vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Snowflake bracelet/earrings - Museum of Modern Art gift shop, NYC, 2008

The collar points were on the black satin shirt.

I popped into the Beacon Avenue Thrift Shop next door to the diner as they had 50% off on pink/boutique tags.
I spotted this gorgeous cotton velvet coat with ginormous faux fur collar immediately and grabbed it before anyone else could!

Grosgrain ribbon trim around the cuffs and pockets.
No missing buttons, this is good.

One hole inside the lining.
I also found a seam that had been sewn up - she's seen some things!

Love this label, which of course evokes San Francisco.
The size tag says 44, which is a modern size 10.

C&A is the main company - they seem to have been based in Switzerland, and now it makes sense that it has German and French on the label.
The internet seems to agree that this is an 80s label, which I agree with, based on the washing instructions (not included before the early 70s) and the style.

I loved big collars like this in the early 80s.
The coat was marked at $40.00...but of course, it was half price! Yes, I paid $20.00 for this amazing coat - and I wore it right away!

But before we get to those pictures, back to my errand - picking up my new glasses at Goo Goo Goggles!
Because the folks at Goo Goo are wonderful, kind and patient, I bought them a big bag of chocolate almond bark as a thank you...and Laine (hello!) gave me a bunch of goodies in return, including this amazingly awesome tote bag! Moscot is a brand of eyewear.

I also got to pick out a new case (the blue one) for my new pair...and I got this "We Flock Together" envelope.
The Coach case on the left contains a surprise that some of you might remember.

But what's in the envelope, Precious?
A giant lens cloth!

Look at that!
I'd wear it as a scarf, except it has that weird lens cloth feel.

It also came with a comic explaining the origins of Theo, the Belgian line of glasses that L and I always end up buying. L's new glasses are taking longer, but he should have them in the next couple of weeks.
I also got a new orange and lime green lens cloth, plus a "Reflect, Dare, DO" sticker, which I've promised L can stick on his lunchbox.

The back of the comic.
Yes, I support all of these things!

And here are my glasses. Some of you may recall that I used to wear these purple Rapp frames back in 2013 - here's the post where L and I debuted them. I ruined the lenses when I spilled nail polish remover on them many years ago, and finally got around to getting new lenses put in.
The sporty black and clear spectacles on the right are my new pair - I wanted a sporty-looking vibe for when I wear my Weird Adidas!

Feeling very full of Good Cheer, I noticed that this alleyway was decorated and thought I'd check it out.
OH! So sparkly! And there are dinosaurs...

A selfie portrait of me speckled with rain.
I ambled back home, stopping in at the Velvet Crease for a leisurely browse.

I hadn't been there in ages, and they had 20% off everything.
I found these silver sandals for $40.00.

They're by Via Spiga.
I spotted a secondhand pair online for $89.00, so I got a good deal.

Not even any wear!
These will be great in summer!

Two pairs of nylons for $3.20 after the discount.
And I waffled over the gold/enamel pendant.

But it was so pretty, and I knew that the discounted price of $40.00 was a STEAL. It's missing its original chain and a jump ring (I found one on a broken bracelet and added it with a pair of pliers).
Looks Brutalist, doesn't it? The enamel is unusual.

That's a really old Robert Larin mark - this is likely earlier than most of my Robert Larin pieces, which have a script "stamp".
Ha, he even wrote the "N" backwards! Makes sense when you think of this being carved out of wax first to make a mold. This is actually gold-plated pewter - and it would sell secondhand for over $100.00 easily.

The last thing I bought was this mesh top - I love the colours.
It's likely from the 90s.

It's by Mexx.
It was $26.00.

I barely had time to grab a quick nap when I got home - it was windy and stormy, and my stair pic did not turn out. Time to go out! We had tickets with our dear friends to the John and Roy Holiday Special at the Royal Theatre!
"But you just got home?"

  • Dress - Evan Peters, vintage 70s, vintage fair; last worn here (2nd outfit) in January 2021 for a Zoom Happy Hour with our friends
  • Shoes - Prepare 2.0 Tracker, Fluevog; last seen here in November with black cord and red leapard
  • Coat (below) - C&A Golden Gate Collection, vintage 80s, thrifted; purchased above for $20.00!

My pictures were mostly blurry, as we rushed around getting ready. This is all you get!
I was happy that this Lurex dress still fits after all these years! I bought it in 2019 and wore it one of Nick and Karen's Christmas parties that year, and aside from a Zoom call, that's...pretty much it!

It was raining and windy, so I abandoned my plans of wearing a cape, and went warm instead.
I am ready to walk to town!

Isn't it a gorgeous coat? I am in love with the princess cut of it, and that giant collar.
It was wonderfully comfortable to wear and Cat and Yvonne cooed over it. "Twenty bucks! No way!"

Accoutrements:
Warm things.

  • Leather purse - Aimee Kestenberg, thrifted, Powell River
  • Scarf - thrifted
  • Gloves - Picabo, Powell River
  • Hat - M'Sieu Andre, vintage, thrifted

The stuff:
Easy boots for walking in - the rain had stopped by the time we walked home at 11pm with Cat and Ross.

Gold bling:
Deja vu! I wore a lot of these things earlier.

  • Belt - vintage 90s, Powell River, consignment, gift from Louise
  • All the rest - as above

Here's L, looking amazing in an outfit he created himself. Rock on!
Shades of green and blue! The velvet blazer is Dolce & Gabbana (consignment), plus one of his white work-shirts and his blue suit-pants. The tie is vintage 60s (thrifted), and the shoes are Fluevog, of course.

On the way to town, we passed a tattoo shop's window and this spoke to us.
"Happy holidays!"

It didn't really speak (thank goodness). Creepy as heck!

We met up with Yvonne, Randall, Cat and Ross at Vista 18 for a yummy dinner. View to the north-east, looking over the Fort Street intersection, we'd just gone through.
So pretty. I love all the lights.

Randall's reflection in the window looking over the Inner Harbour.
That's the Parliament Buildings (aka the Legislature) all decked out in its red and green. It's always lit up like that - only the colourful lights are different this time of year.

And here are my lovelies at the Royal Theatre.
Yvonne in her pink faux leather blazer, Cat in her green plaid, and yours truly.

Randall and Ross, looking contemplative.
The Royal is very civilized - you're allowed to drink in the theatre now.

Isn't it amazing? It's over 100 years old - I saw movies here as a kid and I've seen many live acts here.
We were in the lower left balcony. Great, unobstructed seats, and excellent sound.

Although the Jon & Roy Holiday Special is a 16-year tradition, we had no idea what to expect. I must say, I was kind of hoping for a Lawrence Welk-ish type of experience, with snow, trees and holiday carols. But it ended up just being a regular show, featuring Jon & Roy as the headliners with two opening acts.
We were excited to see Anna Tivel, a Portland musician. Her voice is amazing!

After her short set, we were treated to a solo set by M. Ward (you might know him from Zooey Deschanel collaboration She & Him).
He was amazing on the guitar.

And then Ocie Elliot came out for a song - I've heard them on the radio.
And then it was intermission!

Let's look behind us at the balcony.
Zoiks, that's steep! It was close to a sold-out show. I see Ross on the right.

Looking down at the loge boxes and the seats below.
I needed to stretch my legs (I did a lot of walking that day!), so I went out to the area looking over one of the side lobbies.

Randall and I chatted and looked at the people. I challenged him to find people wearing colour.
A lot of black and grey, whomp whomp, however, we could tell that many folks were wearing their Best Shirts!

Time to go back in for the headliners, Jon & Roy.
An uncropped view.

Jon is the guy on the left, and Roy is the drummer (I thought he was the bassist until they did introductions).
They had guest brass players.

Jon & Roy are a local band, and they are...okay!
But Dave St. John, the trombonist - he was on fire!

We were hooting and hollering for him! Go, Dave, go!
All too soon, the show was over. It was...fine. I would not go to this Holiday Spectacular again (not a single carol!), but the point was to spend the time with our dear, dear friends.

And this guy, my partner in crime.
Best-looking couple there! Rock on, my love! (I bought that sword pin in Las Vegas in 2002).

We strolled home with Cat and Ross, enjoying the lights and the full moon.
Very atmospheric.

L, Ross and Cat.
Here's to many more adventures this month, this year, this life!

And much love to my dearest.
May we always dress up more than everyone else.

And finally, something for the cat lovers.
We all have pictures like this, right?

I hope you had a marvelous weekend, my friends! Thank you so much for dropping by and visiting my little corner of the blogoverse.

  1. I love your Big Ass Weekend Roundups! And, yeah...$20 for that gorgeous coat...that's amazing! I remember those big collars and how nice and warm they were. Some of the fur also ended up in your eyes and mouth if you weren't careful. I'm looking for new glasses, but I just can't make up my mind. I don't really like the ones at my optometrist. I love to have several pairs. It's too bad the show wasn't better, but being with friends and L, as you said, was the best part. Have a lovely week, Sheila!
