L and I went to visit his folks over the weekend. As it's finally - finally! - warm here, I did a small travel wardrobe, part of which was...
...this! I also took a graphic tee, another solid top, and my cropped khakis. Same shoes and cardi all weekend. I didn't photograph the other outfits. Believe me, you didn't miss much. And I was still overdressed for L's small town!
I was very glad of my hat:
It stayed on really well, even with the top down on our convertible.
Cardigan (American Rag Cie, consignment), top (Ricki's, consignment), jeans (Jackpot, swap from Caro), shoes (Kenneth Cole Reaction), hat (DeLux).
While waiting in the ferry line-up, I did a beachcombing stroll along the water's edge. Look at all the treasure I found:

Those are all very common shells. I like the limpets (the ones with the stripes/spots) and the tiny moon snail shell.
The colours are so pretty:
I always look at the backs - check out that glorious lavender on the piece of clamshell.

Such a rugged coastline!

She's wearing a tiara. Girl after my own heart!

They tasted like sunshine! I ate most of this tray all by myself.

I am sure he must be the world's largest gnome, or at least the Gnome With the Largest Hands.

No make-up, just a lot of sunblock!
When I got home, I had to prep for my WW meeting that night. I rolled out my flip-chart paper:Inigo immediately attacked it! My flip charts had teeth marks on them.

Vizzini couldn't miss out on the fun either:
He was not too traumatized by being left by us for a few days.
I put on my simple "lettuce" dress for my Tuesday night meeting:

I last wore it here. I tied my stained glass scarf around my neck (I don't think my WW group is quite ready to see my tattoo), and threw on my comfy shoes. I was really only in this outfit for 2 hours, max.
The outside shot:
I like the loose shape of this dress - I certainly needed it after all the food I ate at my inlaws' place!
L and I tossed the Frisbee around one afternoon while we were away, and I got donked right in the shin (how did I miss catching that?):

Look at that bruise.
Dress (Taylor, consignment), scarf (Metropolitan Museum of Art, thrifted), shoes (Kenneth Cole Reaction, consignment), cuff (Shi Studio).
Yesterday, my last day off...*sigh*. I met up with my boss from my old job for lunch. We sat out on the patio in the sun and chatted for a couple of hours. A lovely time.

I wore my pretty sundress:
Last seen here. This time, I belted it and wore flats for walking.
Of course, as well as being covered in sunblock, I also wore a thin jacket:

After lunch, I walked around and browsed in the mall, and checked out a few of my favourite stores. I bought a few things, and am excited to make some new outfits.
Yesterday was also our good friend Nick's birthday, so we met up with him and a bunch of friends for drinks and appies.
All in all, a lovely weekend! And another one is almost here!

A very uplifting account, Sheila! I love your "lettuce dress"; I name some of my clothes too. It's a great color for you. Hey kitties! Play nice together.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got a bit of a giveaway and thank you for the pic of the giant troll! We are about to go on a roadtrip and somehow I doubt that fashion will be a high priority.
ReplyDeleteHi Sheila: I so enjoy your blog, and also the wonderful clothes you wear. You are a girl after my own heart when it comes to thrifting. I do modify things a tad, as I am 71 and no longer need to dress for work. I do find that dressing for casual, and yet not being too casual, can be a bit tricky. Also not dressing too young or too old can be a bit tricky. I love your style, and please keep writing.
ReplyDeletePeg (who lives in Comox, and you may have visited near us, as we see the gnome when we drive down to Nanaimo)
Glad you had fun, Sheila. And, btw, the cat ate my homework...
ReplyDeleteI like your hat and your green dress!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun trip. You know I love both of those sundresses, they're so unique and special in different ways. I love the purple one for it's shape and sci-fi ness.
ReplyDelete(also you may or may not be receiving something in the mail from me. is the address you sent me last still okay to send to?)
The trip looks like great fun, and what a collection of shells you scooped up. I can't believe the striped and spotted ones are common! Cute outfit for the trip, especially the hat.
ReplyDeleteYay! A long-overdue appearance of the lettuce dress! I just adore that one
ReplyDeleteI'm off on my long weekend as I type! Woot! But as I'll be in WI, I doubt I'll find any cool seashells. Ah well.
ReplyDeletePatti, thank you! The kitties are still getting used to each other!
ReplyDeleteTerri, it was a lovely roadtrip! Thanks!
Peg, thank you for reading! :) That casual style has always been the hardest for me, too. Ha, glad to meet a fellow gnome-admirer!
Ally, ha! Thank you!
Rebecca, thanks!
Megan, it was great weather, which was nice. Thanks! Aw, you are such a sweetie - yes, same address.
Kristen, I threw all the shells back onto the beach. Thanks!
Doll, I do too - it's such a fun dress.
Erin, have fun!
You look SO good in your hat! I love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd hahahahaha "Big Hand Gnome" hahahaha!
Wow - great pic and I adore all your looks. That green dress is amazing!
ReplyDeleteRita, aw, thank you! Isn't the gnome awesome? I love him!
ReplyDeleteLondyn, thank you so much!
That green colour dress looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteYou are looking radiant !
ReplyDeleteI have always wondered, do you ever take the cats for a ride with the top down ?
Am i pushing it?!!
:)
Lorena, no, we've never taken the cats "loose" in the car. They have only been in it to go to the vet, and they are in a cage then. Our Miata is very small and I don't think they would like it, plus it could be dangerous for them (and us!).
