We finished the puzzle, had a little naughty snack, and then Mom and I cabbed to Floyd's Diner for a delicious lunch for my birthday. It was a wonderful day - thank you, Mom! I love you!
But first, the outfit.
Now that I've done my closet swap-over, I'm excited to actually wear all these main pieces more than once in the season.
- Coatigan - Chacok, consignment, Sidney; last worn here in October 2025 for a Mom-Day in yellow and orange cords
- Ice Cube tee - tour merch, not tracked
- Leather skirt - Tory Burch, consignment; last seen here in February in a scarf-based outfit
- Boots - Original Mittwoch, Fluevog; last worn here in August when I met up with Judith and Leslie (HI!!!)
I took the sweater off a couple of times. I didn't feel like wearing a fancier top, and this Ice Cube one went well with the coatigan.
I loved wearing this wine leather skirt again and liked it with yesterday's tights even better. As I walked home in the late afternoon a person at the bus stop hollered, "I love your outfit, ma'am!"
Thank you, kind person. This is how most of the world saw me. I loved all these colours together!

Red and brass bling:
Two things of Mom's!

- Square ring - sidewalk find
- Brass ring - vintage mall
- Stone ring - thrifted
- Leather/bead choker - vintage 70s, Mom's
- Earrings - LA Express, c. 1994
Okay, gotta go, buddy.
Bye, Whateley! Presents from Mom, plus a Fluevog gift card. So generous!
We shared a piece of birthday cake - it was chocolate with a custard layer. YUM.

Mom saved the last section of the puzzle to do together.
It took about 45 minutes to finish.
Feeling good about getting it done.
Let's go for lunch!

Our server Hannah was so happy to see us - it's been ages since we had lunch here.
Mom has decided to give up driving - she's had some eye issues and will get good trade-in value for her car, enough for us to cab to wherever we want to go! I love her positive attitude, of finding the good in the bad. Always look on the bright side of life...(whistles).

As I bused back to town, we passed the Roxy Theatre, a building made in the Quonset hut style.
I saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show here in the 80s - it was wild! My Book Club cohorts and I were texting about shows we'd seen, inspired by some of our books...and I was able to find the exact one: here, November 2013.

I popped into the WIN Boutique on the way home - I haven't been there in months, and I treated myself to a thorough browse. I also cashed in my 50% off discount for my birthday in their WINsiders Club.
I liked these faux pony-hair spotty leopard gloves.
You can see the fuzzy texture near the fingertips. They look nice on.
There's no tag on them, but the CA number tells me that they are Paris Glove Company of Canada, a manufacturer that sells to retailer lines.

I'm always up for a new white tee - they get dirty and worn over time.
This is a good cut - nice neckline.

And it's from Eddie Bauer.
Although it says cotton, it's a blend. It was $4.98 for me, tagged at $9.95.

A sparkly gold waistband. This is by Lili Sidonio, a "rock & roll" subset of Molly Bracken.
They run up to $85.00 retail - it was $7.48 for me! I'll probably sell this one at the Limbo sale - the plaid doesn't ring my bell.

This is the only tag.
Polyurethane? Where? It doesn't feel like denim, even though it looks like it.

I bought it for the skull!
It was only $7.48, so I'm okay if it doesn't work out.
And then I went home!
Are you happy to see me? My friends, my birthday is on Friday, and it's the long Thanksgiving weekend, so I am signing off for a few days. I'll be back on Monday with tales of adventure, but for now, that chocolate's not going to eat itself. Thank you for being here!

Fabulous colour combination. Happy Birthday for Friday. Yay the blog layout is fixed! Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lise!
DeleteHappy Birthday, dear Sheila!
ReplyDeleteAnd so fabulous to see you and Mom rocking together! and having cake too! ;DD
Totally Gorgeous Outfit, lovely colour combo, and delightful matchiness (those boots and coatigan! matchy makes me so happy!) and textures and details!
And obviously, your Mom looks fab too in her geometric top and cool necklace!
besos
Thank you, Monica! We totally spoiled our appetites, but WORTH IT!
DeleteI know, the matchy makes me happy too! Mom always looks fab!
Happy birthday Sheila!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteHere it is Friday and I'm commenting SO, cue the music:
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to you, Happy Pirating to thee
Happy Puzzling with your Moooommmmm,
and Chocolating chocolating chocolating…
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
(apparently the singer was intoxicated by the chocolate…)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your Coatigan and Boots, and the coatigan simply surpasses superlatives. (Grammatically correct?) As for your new hauls, yah on the jeans skirt (would this be a trading up?), sweet gloves with wonderful color, and my first comment on the skirt was Yay, another Tulle! However, if it doesn't ring your bell for the colors my guess is there will likely be other tulle skirts in your future.
Hi Helen, I like your necklace-top combination, they play nicely with one another. :-) Congrats on yet another finished puzzle with Sheila! And also, because Mom's deserve come of the credit (!) happy Sheila's birthday to you!
Cheers to you both and here's to a fabulous long weekend and much birthday enjoyment Sheila! 🎈🎉🥂🎂🎁💕 Hugs and cheers, Laurie
I love your version of the Happy Birthday song, Laurie, ha ha! I agree, the coatigan is an amazing piece that I need to wear more!
DeleteThe jeans skirt is not an upgrade because I don't have a short version now (only a white one, totally not the same, hee), and I'm not likely to keep this one. Yeah, I have a lot of tulle skirts, and my friends have been clamouring for them, so I'm picking them up when I see them.
Thank you, my friend, so appreciate your always kind and thoughtful comments. <3
I love those colours together, too. Perfect for a birthday outing with your Mom, who is looking trendy as usual!
ReplyDeleteBurgundy and orange, who knew? Thanks so much!
DeleteI am reading/writing this on your birthday-
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for a fabulous year ahead! I hope it is creative, healthy, joyful and prosperous!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 💐👑🎪🌞✨🖖🏻🎂🎼

Congratulations to mom for her self care!
Thank you, dear Rita! Yay for me and yay for Mom!
DeleteOrange and wine is a surprisingly fabulous combo! That leather skirt is stunning and so is that coatigan!
ReplyDeleteWell done on finishing the puzzle and oh my, that birthday cake is looking scrumptious.
I'm applauding your Mom's decision to give up driving. It's not the end of the world if you can cab instead. Oh, and thanks for the earworm :-) xxx
Right? I see it in nature and it works, so why not in my clothes? I love those pieces too (a better shirt next time, though). The cake was so good, what a treat!
DeleteIt's hard for her, but life is all about adapting to and accepting change.
You're welcome! (whistles)
L is going to Sabaton concert! I love Sabaton, literally one of my fav bands ever.
ReplyDeleteHow cool that someone yelled that they loved your outfit. We all do! Those colours are gorgeous together. I love the boots and the coat together. Orange is such a happy colour for me.
Nice to see you with your mom, enjoying the birthday cake and all.
It is wise of your mom to find a silver lining in everything. Life is what it is, so it helps to think positively. Driving when one has eye troubles is really not safe.
They are one of his favourites, and he had a GREAT time at the show!
DeleteIt's nice to hear! Most people don't say anything. I also love these colours together, and will have to do this outfit again.
Agreed, Ivana, and she's being very careful and transitioning to new ways of getting around.
Yay! Glad the two of you had fun. It's hard to give up driving but when one has eye problems (as both your mom and I do), it's the smart thing to do. You really don't want to cause an accident that hurts anyone. These days cabs, car services and mass transit are ubiquitous even in suburban areas. Enjoy your time off.
ReplyDeleteIt's so lovely to spend the day together, thanks, Ally! Exactly! Mass transit is out (it's a 1km walk through rural landscapes to the bus stop), but Mom can afford cabs. Thank you!
DeleteHappy belated Birthday, Sheila! i hope you had a wonderful day and that the celebrations continue for a long time afterwards.
ReplyDeleteYour Mum's Day looked fabulous and the skirt you wore is so cool, I remember you buying that beauty!
Love to you, Helen, L and the moggies! xxx
Thank you, Vix! It was a fabulous day/weekend and let's admit, month ahead!
DeleteYes, I haven't had that skirt for too long, around 2 years?
