Mom's brother Brian was visiting from Melbourne, so he drove Mom to my house where we all hung out with the kittens, before going to Beacon Hill Park for a walk, followed by lunch at Christie's Pub. Mom and I last visited Beacon Hill Park back here in March 2025, and we all did this together back here in October 2024.
I was craving colour, and my eyes landed on this yellow blouse with the big sleeves.
All this colour felt so good.
- Vest - Zara, consignment; last seen here in April in a similar looking outfit, same tee
- Cotton blouse - Zara, thrifted; last worn here in July 2025 under my cow dress
- JJ Wilde tee - tour merch, not tracked
- Silk-blend skirt - Akris, thrifted; last seen here almost exactly a year ago in May 2025 for a Mom-Day at Swan Lake (same tee and boots!)
- Boots - Doc Martens; last worn here in February, with primary colours
I liked how a tee looked over my other big floofy-sleeved blouse, so I grabbed one that would go with this bright yellow.
I laughed when I looked back - it's the same tee...which I've also worn with this skirt...and these boots.
Nothing's new but it's a new combination - I really liked the orange vest with it.
I carried my sunglasses in the pocket and took it off when we had lunch. The stuff:
One minute my new cat pin that Yvonne got me in Tofino! was there - and the next it was gone!

- Leather purse - Aimee Kestenberg, thrifted, Powell River
And then, when I was removing my purse contents, I heard a noise in the living room.
- Enamel cat pin - gift from Yvonne
And there it was, being batted around by Barnabas (I suspect Whateley stole it, as he's always jumping up on this table).
Bold bling:
Some favourites.
- Leather studded cuff - c. 1996
- Leather cuff - thrfited
- Silver Anneke & Lars ring - vintage mall
- Silver snake ring - BC Museum gift shop, c. 1986
- Silver earrings - Israeli, consignment
Kittens on the prowl in the morning.
Well, ONE of them is prowling. The other is...melting? And then, there was much panic! We are on Full Spider Alert!
Boys, we have to go now!
Please do not destroy anything while I'm gone! (They like to knock the paper bins over).
Whateley looked for ways to get it, including pawing at the frames to see if they would support him. Thank goodness he gave up.

Brian, Mom and me at the petting zoo.
So good to see you again, Brian! Mom, love the two-tone pink! We were a colourful group!

One of many horse chestnut trees that were in bloom along the road.
Mom and I have never been here in May - it was quite different.

We were disappointed that we'd hit the Flower Bed Changeover for summer growth. These beds will all be full of pre-grown flowers in a day, ready for the US long weekend (we are a tourist town).
The peacocks got right up and personal, supervising all of it.

Some gorgeous cedars.
We headed down to the pond with the heron nests.
There were Canada geese everywhere.
Goslings! They're cute when they're young...Crossing a small bridge.
See the duck? There were plenty of mallards, but no ducklings. This squirrel posed for us.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Mom and Brian settled on a bench once we reached this lake, and I walked a bit farther to see if there were any turtles.
There were!
There were!
Looking back at Brian and Mom.
We all gasped as a bald eagle flew overhead with a squirrel in its clutches!

We all liked this sign on the bench.
Aw!
Herons flapped over us.
Heading for their nests in those trees in the middle. We walked under the heron tree, and chatted with some folks from Georgia.
The nests look like snarls of hair. See the heron in the upper right?

There's the big "Family Tree."
We had a lovely lunch at Christie's, Brian's treat - thank you!
So good to see you again! Mom, I always love seeing you - I love you!
I see Mom in her pink leather coat!

And then I walked home, stopping in at Pocket for a look around. And LOOK:
I gasped, and showed Annie my "Post-It" dress (seen here for New Year's). But this skirt's a rainbow! Wow!

And it's by Tangerine Jill, of course.
I was happy with $42.00. I am so excited to wear it!
And now, my friends, time to sign off for the weekend.
As soon as I got up, Barnabas took my seat.
Those eyes are full of mischief.
I hope your weekend is full of good times - thank you for being here. Please do drop in on Sunday for tales of adventure.

The kitties mimicking the gargoyle makes a fantastic photo! How lovely that you got to spend such a gorgeous day with your mum and your uncle. That bright pink blazer suits her marvelously.
ReplyDeleteOutfits first: Helen, the shades of pinks (including your sneakers!) with the patterned b/w pants rocks the spring (and looks quite comfortable! Sheila, that lovely skirt with the tee looks so you. So does the yellow top with the balloon sleeves, though I find myself waxing and waning on the style. Yay for matching comfortable shoes appropriate for walking.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how special the visit was for all of you and especially for your Mom and Uncle to spend time with one another. While I think of Australia as being very far away, I remind myself that it is a lot closer to Victoria than it is to New York!
We have very fond memories of Beacon Hill Park from when you took us there, and we returned several times on our own. It is a gem of a park and I remember we were agog at the peacocks (so many just simply out and about!), heron nests and eagles. Up till that point the New Yorkers (Robin is now considered a Pacific Northwesterner ;-)) had not seen many eagles in the wild; Vancouver Island changed that!
As for the rainbow skirt!!!!! How cool that your Post-It dress now has company. I made that connection immediately because how many of this style does one run into. My entire exposure is via your blog.
Thanks for answering my previous question about books for your Book Club. I've read On Tyranny (alas and alack that it's become an important book for Americans - and others - to read).
Here's to the weekend! Cheers, Laurie
I didn't take you to Beacon Hill Park, but I did recommend it over Butchart Gardens (free, lovely displays, less time/closer to town). :)
DeleteHow lovely to have a visit from your uncle, and good that he could bring your Mom over so that you could entertain them with Whateley and Barnabas! You all look as if you planned your colour co-ordination, nobody in the same and all looking spiffy! That lake reminds me of Mud Lake in Ottawa, which is more wild and almost guarantees turtles on logs! Well, I've never seen a post-it dress or skirt around here, in or out of a charity shop, but then I don't get around much! I look forward to seeing you wearing the new skirt.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see your Mom and your uncle coming home and playing with your furry boys!, and so fabulous that you enjoyed a walk, those landscapes are amazing!
ReplyDeleteAnd obviously, you look fab in your delightfully matchy ensemble, I do love that layering of tshirt over puffy sleeves blouse and orange vest!. You totally rock!
