Pink Pattern Mixing, a Maxi-Bomber and White Bookends

Welcome back, Gentle Readers! I was so excited to wear clothes that weren't my Halston dress, that I spent some time on Sunday in my wardrobe putting together outfits.
I always feel better when I spend that time on myself, and it's a good reminder that "Self care isn't selfish."

  • Maxi bomber jacket - Above Mediocre Taste AMT, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in September 2024 for a shop with a colleague
  • Toga blouse - Zara, consignment; purchased here for $27.00
  • Trousers - FRNCH, consignment; first seen here in October 2024 with black leather
  • Shoes - Zoomies Ishshoes, Fluevog; last worn here (2nd outfit) in April for Urbanite!

"What would you call that?" my colleague Ngoc asked, gesturing at my jacket.
"A maxi-bomber!" I love it - it's a very silky-feeling polyester, but lacks pockets (arg!).

I am a sucker for a full-length print.
And the black and white ribbed trim.

Wait, did I mention the purple satin lining?
When I walked, it billowed out behind me. I gave a tour of the office in this to a new employee. He was suitably impressed.

This is the first outing for this "toga" top. I could have tucked it in, but chose to belt it over the peplum waist.
I liked the drapey fabric (polyester, but again, feels really silky) and the cut strikes my fancy. Keeper!

My pink plaid pants needed to be styled again - I've only worn them twice. The colours work better with my spring/summer clothes, and I was tickled at how well they went with the jacket.
I laughed when I saw the staples on the cuffs from last fall. Yeah, I didn't get around to hand-stitching them, so the staples stay.

Incognito. Fun with pattern-mixing!
This felt very me: slouchy, cool and rock and roll.

The stuff:
White bookends to pull it all together. Love these shoes.

Tonal bling:
I looped the long crystal necklace around twice and work it offset to hide the clasp.

  • Belt - B-Lo the Belt, thrifted
  • Lucite/silver cuff - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
  • Carved quartz bangle - consignment
  • Silver Anneke & Lars ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Crystal necklace - thrifted, Vancouver
  • Ball earrings - thrifted

  1. I love your maxi bomber jacket. It gives off modern kimono vibes. The checkered trousers and the white blouse are fabulous, and make me think of steampunk. Finally, the belt and the shoes are such fabulous accessories. The rings, bracelets and the necklaces are amazing as well. Well styled and accessorized to perfection! No wonder the new coworker was impressed.

I'm again in a dress code (I'm working in a youth camp presently) but this time my work uniform is even more boring- a T-shirt with the company's logo, a pair of leggings and a pair of sneakers. I miss my black and white dress code now (from my old school). I'm not exactly a fan of athleisure wear, although of course I have to wear it when I do sports.

    1. Yes, it's very much like a kimono, with that full print! I did steampunk quite heavily back in 2011-2012, so not surprising that I still go for that vibe. Thank you, that's so lovely of you to say.
Oh no, that sucks, Ivana! I would die a little inside from wearing a tee and leggings all day, every day.

  2. Ooh, I love this very much Sheila. The toga top is gorgeous and the pink pattern mixing is fabulous. I've been feeling a bit uninspired lately, so I'm taking your advice to heart to spent some time playing around with my wardrobe. Also, re. stapling! I'm totally going to steal that idea from you :-) xxx

    1. Thank you, dear Ann! I loved the toga top. Do play in your closet and try different things! It's really vitaminic (to borrow Senora Allnut's phrase) and reawakens my creativity. Steal away - tip: staple with the prongs on the outside so that they don't snag tights or socks.

  3. What a fabulous outfit. The Zara blouse is such a great shape on you and looks great with the trousers and that weird but wonderful Oriental baseball coaty thing!
    Self-care certainly isn't selfish! xxx

    1. Thank you, Vix! "Weird but wonderful Oriental baseball coat thing" is good, but I think "maxi-bomber" works better. ;-P

      Agreed!

  4. Oh my gosh, I absolutely LOVE this outfit, each part and the whole! What you are calling a maxi-bomber reminds me of a Japanese kimono with narrower sleeves. The white blouse is so much nicer than I imagined it (mainly because my instinct is to first consider if it is something I would wear, and this does not fall in that category at the moment). It is truly flattering the way you styled it with the belt and all the color combining and pattern playing work perfectly together. Plus, truth be told, it is a nice break from the neutral of the ultrasuede.

    1. Thanks so much, Laurie, I really liked it too. Yes, it's one part baseball jacket/bomber jacket, and one part kimono, isn't it?
I know, I got very tired of the Ultrasuede after a week of it. Finally happy to wear something else!

  6. The outfit is sumptuously fabulous!
It's totally a Maxi Bomber - never seen I've before and I agree with Ivana's assessment of it! The toga top is so lovely! Xx
