The challenge? To style this beige, oatmeal, tan, insert-other-blah-colour dress every single day.
Why? Because I have been notoriously anti-oatmeal for YEARS and this is a vintage 70s Halston, so why not see if I'm willing to change my mind about it over a really awesome oatmeal dress.
Of course, it was inevitable that I layer a skirt under it.
And no Ultrasuede Rage today! Huzzah!
This skirt is thin and swooshy, a lovely contrast to the thick Ultrasuede.
- Ultrasuede dress - Halston, vintage 70s, consignment; last worn here yesterday with orange bits
- Sleeveless turtleneck sweater - Contemporaine, thrifted; last NOT seen here in April with a picture fail look
- Skirt - Ralph Lauren, consignment; last worn here in February with a shared brocade blazer
- Shoes - Super Fine Cardinal, Fluevog; last seen here in April with origami pieces
I'm wearing a sleeveless black turtleneck sweater under the dress - a nod to Halston's own personal uniform. The bronze pleated skirt frothed out of the front of the Ultrasuede dress, and the dress was slightly weighted down by the weight of the obi ends. The long pieces kicked out as I walked. A delight!
I've been doing the skirt under dress look for ages - enjoy me wearing an oatmeal dress(!!) back here in 2010 (2nd outfit, yikes, high heels!).
The dress also helped keep my skirt from rolling into my chair's wheels, an added bonus.
Incognito. The star of the outfit is the brocade obi - I'd played around with the best way to wear it, and found this double-wrap worked really well.
It was a pleasure to wear from a textile standpoint - my coworkers loved it. I had to tighten it up a couple of times, but it stayed put without having to knot it.

I'd originally planned to wear my black platform shoes with the studs, but these gold shoes won out.

DeleteBrocade obi, nope. It looks too much like a curtain, and little kids in the street will make fun of it. The last two outfits are nice.

ReplyDeleteNow to the present. I’m duly impressed but not surprised that you would find yet another way to style the Halston. It all but disappears, in a good way. Or maybe it’s more accurate to say that it shares the stage well and takes a step back to let the other pieces have their star turn. To my eye it’s the obi then the skirt, your necklace and then the Halston. Your creative eye is on fire! I’m chomping at the bit to see what comes next; just two outfits to go!
