Hello, my friends, and welcome to Halston Day 2 - if you missed Day 1, I've added a picture of it at the bottom, so you review the outfits as we go.
The challenge? To style this beige, oatmeal, tan, insert-other-blah-colour dress every single day.
Why? Because I have been notoriously anti-oatmeal for YEARS and this is a vintage 70s Halston, so why not see if I'm willing to change my mind about it over a really awesome oatmeal dress.
Well, colour me surprised - this outfit was a HIT in the office! I even had colleague Ruth reach out to me on Teams to compliment my style. - Cotton blouse - Planet, thrifted; first seen here in April on our day-trip to Sidney
- Ultrasuede dress - Halston, vintage 70s, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) yesterday as a coat over a tee and trousers
- Shoes - Groovy Aubrey, Fluevog; last seen here a week ago
I deliberately went for a 70s Office Worker look - I could be the star of "9 To 5"!
The orange at the neckline is a sleeveless orange blouse.
And you might have spied the hem of my orange vintage slip peeking out in the above pics.
Ultrasuede requires some finicky adjustments - I pulled out the top over the belt in the back just so. I pinched little pleats at the front for fullness once I had the belt on. Little adjustments like that pay off.
I loved the enormous pockets anew!
I loved the enormous pockets anew!
Incognito.
The jaunty scarf just screams "70s!!", although I wore this style in the early 80s, late 90s and in the 00s, and heck, here we are in the 20s and I'm still doing it.
The stuff:
"I can't believe you have two pairs of orange shoes," commented colleague Glenn. "I also have orange short boots," I replied, "It's a versatile colour!"
Bold bling:
I'd been going all orange, then my eyes alit on this Alexander McQueen scarf. I folded it diagonally, then gently rolled each side toward the centre and then folded it in half - this shows off the pattern the best (and the name!).- Belt - vintage 80s, thrifted
- Silk scarf - Alexander McQueen, consignment, Vancouver
- Faux cinnabar bangle - consignment
- Steel/Lucite ring - Calvin Klein, thrifted
- Turquoise/silver ring - Karen's
- Turquoise stone cuff - thrifted, Sidney
- Fulvia Ring - Wendy Brandes
- Silver/turquoise earrings - thrifted
As promised...
Halston Dress Challenge - Day 1
Casual! I also have a squirrel update! I'm naming her Maple because she's in the maple tree. She was zooming around the other tree with a black squirrel - I dashed to grab my camera.
She's clinging just above her nesty area there.
From the deck, where I could see Maple had moved to this spot.
"I'm hiding from that black squirrel."
Maple seems to be more active in the morning, so I'll be checking then daily!
I’m bowled over! Belted and accessorized with orange with a pop of turquoise makes the outfit AND it’s distinctly different from yesterday’s outfit. I’m seeing a weekend travel set of these two outfits especially as the orange shoes and top could be worn with the b&w pants. :) Eager to see what comes next!
ReplyDeleteCheers, Laurie
Yes, it works well in a capsule, for sure - it's more versatile due to the button front, so that it can be an outer layer. Thanks, Laurie!
DeleteAww, that squirrel is so cute!
ReplyDeleteLoving the 1970s office chic vibe. Don't call it oatmeal - call it caramel, biscuit or cafe au late - much tastier! xxx
I do believe you've landed on my solution, Vix! Call it something other than oatmeal. So simple!
DeleteTotally agree with Vix on renaming the colour!
ReplyDeleteYour 1970s office worker look is absolutely fabulous. I'd never had thought to combine caramel/biscuit/etc. with orange, but it's fantastic! xxx
She's so right, Ann! Thank you so much!
DeleteDefinitely a hit! I agree with Vix: Cafe au Lait with orange- a tasty staple!
ReplyDeleteReaderRita
I can live with cafe au lait! Thank you, Rita!
DeleteLove your styling!, so brilliant to give it a '9 to 5' vibe!, and Orange is always a great idea (those shoes are particularly Fabulous). Looking lovely!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree about calling that colour 'caramel' or 'cafe au lait', sounds so much better!. I'm also in the anti-beige team, so very interested in your experiment.
besos
I liked this vibe (and repeated it again for Friday's outfit, as you'll see), but it's not really "me" much these days. Vix is full of good ideas!
DeleteMaple is so cute! I love the pops of orange in this!xx
ReplyDeleteI've had no signs of her since, Kezzie! Thank you!
DeleteThe orange shoes are so adorable. Beautiful outfits!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
