Bronze Pleats, Vintage Cream and Turquoise

Hello, my friends! Would you believe I built this entire outfit around a ring?
It's true! And it was a good excuse to wear this stunning bronze lame (lah-MAY, darlings!) pleated silk skirt. Phew, that's a lot of adjectives.

  • Wool jacket - Pims, consignment; first seen here in November 2023 with Boss Pants and teal
  • Sweater - Bellissima, thrifted; last worn here in May with Ed Hardy and Vivienne Westwood
  • Skirt - Ralph Lauren, consignment; last seen here in June, layered under a dress
  • Cowboy boots - Donald J. Pliner, consignment, Sidney; last worn here in September
  • Cocoon puffer (below) - B. Young; last seen here a couple of days ago

The Castle was breathtaking this morning. What light!
It was windy all day and lots of people in the southern parts of the Island have no power - one of my coworkers said there were five trees that had fallen across her driveway. Luckily we didn't loose any of these beautiful Garry Oaks. Lots of twigs on the ground, though.

Back to the outfit, and I have to share - and Carol witnessed it! - the most awesome compliment that I received today. The FedEx guy knocked, and as I opened the door to take the box, he said, "Wow, you're gorgeous!" Why thank you, kind person! And that was that, interaction over.
"You're wearing the skirt I like to chew on."

Anyway, I was left with a happy boost, which I tried to pass along to others throughout the day.

I've had this beautiful skirt for four years and have worn it 15 times, which is a LOT for me. When I clicked back, I loved every outfit - it's Peak Gold Skirt.
"I photobombed you the last time you wore it."

He did! That's so funny.

I loved wearing this vintage wool jacket again - I paired it with teal on its first outing too.
"Why aren't you paying attention to meeee?"

Teal's one of my Fall/Winter accent colours - I have shoes, a belt and a top in teal, which makes creating an outfit easy. Pick a skirt/bottom. Wear all the things. Put on a jacket that goes. Voila!

I searched for a long time before finding this short-sleeved teal thin sweater. I have it tucked in here - it's quite long.
I didn't take the jacket off all day, as it would have been A Production, but I know you like to see these things, Gentle Reader.

Both Glenn and Carole were surprised that I owned a puffy cocoon coat.
But this is part of my sporty vibe that I've been feeling for a few years. It will be cool with my sporty sneakers, and my Weird Adidas.

I was snuggly warm, even with no sleeves.
I love the colour - it makes me so happy.

Accoutrements:
I pulled my velvet-gloved hands out of the fleece pockets, after taking my Outerwear pics, the pockets turned inside out! Velvet Rage! Ah! Swap to leather gloves now! Fleece and velvet are not friends.

  • Toque - gift from Tammy
  • Brooch - Monet, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Silk scarf - Banana Republic, consignment
  • Leather gloves - Roeckl, consignment

The stuff:
And I have boots with turquoise on them! Aren't they amazing? I love the mother-of-pearl inlay on the heels. They're leather and canvas, so I tote them to and from work.

It's All About the Ring Bling:
And there she is, the ring that started it all! I loved wearing it and it was roundly admired.

  • Belt - Emmanuel, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Brass link bracelet - vintage, consignment
  • Brass cuff with turquoise, crystals and pearls - Myka, consignment
  • Turquoise ring - consignment; purchased here for $26.00
  • Amber ring - c. 1996
  • Pinky ring - Dots
  • Bee brooch - consignment; purchased here for $18.00
  • "Chiclet" necklace - vintage 1920s, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Amber/silver earrings - thrifted

Despite buying them on the same day, the bee brooch was not chosen until I started to hunt for something to wear on my jacket lapel.

After all that cat-bombing, I had to pick up Vizzini and give him some love.
"How did you know?"

A bit blurry as I kiss his fuzzy head.

  1. Oh yes, glasses, sweater, belt, boots, ring and a swishy metallic skirt for the win! The blazer makes it all pop though I like it just as well without the blazer; each way has different vibes.

Glad you didn’t lose power! The Cyclone Bomb (or was it Bomb Cyclone?) did a number on Seattle though Olympia (where Robin lives) was very windy but no power outages. Meanwhile our other son shared pictures of snow in Brussels, unheard of at this time of year (and rare in general)! And we *finally* have rain after at least five weeks of dry weather caused conditions for mini-fires in areas within driving distance. Oof.
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. Thanks, Laurie! I liked how the blazer looks with it, and I always plan outfits so that I can remove blazers if I want to, and they'll still look good. You never know!

We were lucky - one of my friends lost her power for a couple of days! Snow already in Europe, what crazy weather. I'm glad you finally got some rain!

  2. The skirt reminds me of that iconic photo of Marilyn Monroe in her gold halter neck dress.
I'm a bit of a magpie I think. My eyes were immediately drawn to the gold skirt and those blingy cowboy boots!
Glad you didn't lose power after all that wind. It's been pretty still here (although freezing), but we're forecast a storm this weekend.

    1. Yes, I get that vibe too, Claire! I love shiny things, and it's a rare outfit that doesn't have something shiny in it. I'm grateful we kept power throughout all the storms! Good luck, I hope yours was not as bad as anticipated.

  3. I think the FedEx guy has wonderful taste! You are gorgeous…he just doesn’t see you every day! I used to have so much teal in my closet, but I decided I needed to branch out to other colors. Now, I miss it! I love how you always integrate so many pieces of jewelry and make it look intentional…not like a display at a store…does that make sense? The vintage jacket is so cool! And, puffers are fabulous when it’s chilly. We woke up to snow on the ground…I hope my roses make it.

    1. Aw, thanks, Marsha! I do love gobs of jewelry, especially rings, bracelets and earrings. Most of it is not really noticeable until you are in person and up close.

Yikes, good luck with the snow!

  4. I believe you. It has happened to me too. Sometimes an outfit can be inspired by either an accessory, an art piece, a certain color palette, etc.! I truly love how it all came together, all the details in the accessories, the boots, the jacket but I fell utterly in love with that skirt. So beautiful yet looks so fun and very festive too, love the contrast between the skirt color and that cream jacket, so beautiful and so are you!

    Hope you're doing well!
Have a beautiful day and rest of the week! xx

  5. Well, it's a gorgeous ring so why wouldn't you? The sweetie wrapper skirt, always a joy to see (along with the epic cowboy boots)! xxx

  6. I'm not surprised at that FedEx guy's reaction. You do look gorgeous and your lah-MAY skirt is absolutely fantastic. Building an entire outfit around a ring would be a first for me, but why not, it doesn't sound odd at all to me :-)
I'm glad you didn't loose any of your Garry Oaks! xxx

    1. I was a bit started - most people I work with are so used to how I dress, it doesn't hit them the same way - but it was so nice to get that comment. Thank you, sweet Ann! Yes, so glad no trees fell in our yard!

    1. If you mean the heavy mohair one, I can only wear it when it's sub-zero weather - it's very warm.
