Mental Health Shop in Yellow and Orange

Welcome back, my friends! It was cold and crisp today, and too much for Mom, so she stayed warm at home, and I ventured out for a Mental Health Shop. I earned a fair chunk of shopping money at the Limbo Sale and this is my Net-Zero Shopping all falling into place!

I only have a few coats that are fully warm enough when the temps are hovering just below freezing. Ahoy, I see a down-filled puffer in my future!
I hadn't yet worn this bright orange mini-skirt yet, so why not? I have fleece-lined tights!

  • Down-filled coat - Stormtech, thrifted; last seen here in January at Beaver Lake with Mom
  • Mesh shirt - AWear, thrifted; last worn here in December 2024 for a layered up shopping day
  • Cotton sweater - Bleu Grey, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) with red cords and my Snake Jacket in December 2024
  • Skirt - Mexx, thrifted; last worn here (2nd outfit) in January 2024 layered under my emoji dress
  • Leather boots - Doc Martens; last seen here (2nd outfit) in December with the same jacket and scarf for another shopping trip

This is how I looked while I browsed through the entire WIN (Women in Need) Warehouse Store.
I was there for close to 4 hours! They have all new stock, no sale section and there was a bonanza of amazing things.

There are no fitting rooms, so I dressed for trying stuff on in the middle of the store.
I didn't dress for trying on shoes, ha - that's always when you find them. But I didn't...this time.

I was able to try on everything in this easily.
I wore little sporty shorts under the skirt, both to hold up my tights and to give me coverage.

Incognito - it was sunny!
But very cold and a bit windy - I regretted not wearing a toque or hat.

Accoutrements:
I love this snuggly scarf!

  • Leather purse - Lodis, thrifted
  • Scarf - thrifted
  • Velour gloves - thrifted

I got all of these at the WIN store I shopped at today - the coat and mesh shirt are also all from this same WIN store. It's the best one in town!

The stuff:
I hugely recommend Docs for snowy and icy weather - these yellow ones are unlined so have just gotten softer as I wear them. They're a rare retail buy a few years ago from local shoe store The Cobbler, which has been around since the 80s.

  • Necklace - Givenchy, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Earrings - thrifted

I always wear minimal jewelry when I shop.

And here's my bonanza of goodies! I was absolutely spoiled by the selection - the vintage section was amazing, and I put so much back that I was very tempted by!
I'll never say no to a pair of nylons when they now sell for $20 a pair - these were $1.95.

The Brutalist necklace caught my eye - I don't believe the chain is original.
It's had some wear, but is in good condition.

I saw the stamp and was hopeful, but it says "A4 5/6" which is probably a design number - I spotted a similar one online that had the same type of numbering.
I think it might be D'Orlans or a similar brand from the 1970s - their tag was probably on the original chain. This was only $3.95 so I'm happy with it! Can't have too many gold pendants, heh heh.

This purse is made of straw! And I love the Madras plaid in pink and yellow - this will be a fun bag for summer.
I was $9.95. It has a generous lined (possibly cotton) interior, one interior side pocket and a magnetic clasp across the top.

The macramé clutch came with 35 cents inside! Of course I had to have it. It was made in Hong Kong, which makes it pre-1997, but I think it's probably from the 70s.
It has a cotton lining with a small pouch pocket. I'm not sure if the frame is Bakelite but it's a high-density plastic with no mould seams.

This pocket square was $3.95 - I bought it for L as we took our very first vacation together to Scotland in 1996.
It has all the towns we visited, plus that lovely stag. It's got some age on it, probably the 70s again. It feels like silk.

There were half a dozen half-slips, and I picked the best one.
It has lovely wide lace trim and a side slit.

It's by French Maid and was $10.95.
Look at that early CA number! 00087 is one of the very first! That does indeed bring up the French Maid company of Montreal, and this was made in Canada, probably in the 70s or 80s.

This lovely pink skirt was in the Vintage section as well. It's high-waisted and long, just to my knees (a length I like).
It has two pleats on each side, plus inset pockets - and it's very wrinkled as I don't steam until I wear, usually.

Look at that good-sized pocket!
It's my favourite shade of pink - this will be nice in spring/summer.

Such gorgeous detail - a button at the top of the zip, a wee hook and thread loop to hold the waistband closed.
The extra button is down the side seam, near the hem, where it won't show. You can see the slightly slubbed texture of the fabric there.

That's because it's 100% silk! Also made in Hong Kong, and I think this is from the early 90s - the sizing is big for a 12 but a little small for the pre-90s sizing of a modern 8. I bet it had a matching jacket with ginormous shoulder pads!
It was only $16.95, which felt like a steal for silk. It's by Robin Sinkler, and from what I can see on other garments online, this brand was est. in 1990, and there's that Hong Kong date frame again - so this is squarely 90s. They don't seem to have produced much - there's very little online.

This jacket took my breath away - it's VERY early 80s or late 70s. The shoulders are practically sculpted into a puffed shape (more noticeable when it's on), and the jacket comes in at the waist.
It has three inset pockets - the top one's been opened but the bottom ones have not. Curious.

A close-up of the textile, which is very soft.
A nice marled grey, and look at those dear little buttons and their matching loops.

It's a poly/wool blend. The RN number ties it to Jones Apparel Group (of Jones New York).
Made in Taiwan, classic 80s!

It's by Sasson - one "o", not Sassoon, like Vidal Sassoon. This is is Maurice Sasson, who started his jeans company in 1976. I enjoyed the blurb here from the Vintage Fashion Guild:
Sasson, Inc. was sued by Vidal Sassoon in the late 1970s for “the appropriation of its name.”
The case was settled in 1980 with Sasson, Inc, agreeing to using the pronunciation sa-sohn in its advertising and Vidal Sassoon agreeing to adding the name Vidal to all its logos.

This label matches their 1970s identification, so there we go, 1970s.

Not bad for $24.95!

This vintage crocheted poncho called to me!
"Sheila! I need a home!"

All hand-crocheted.
I'm 100% sure it's vintage due to those buttons.

It's also likely from the 70s.
For $11.95? The wool would cost more than that. It doesn't have a label anywhere, as it's obviously handmade.

I liked the colour and the feel of this dress.
It is lower in the back, and the sides are slightly curved near the hem.

Made in the USA, I like that.
It's a generous sizing. I might wear this in the summer.

But it also might go into the Limbo pile, we shall see.
Eh, for $14.95, I'm okay either way. I love the colour, so I'll give it a shot.

After chocolate, popcorn is probably my favourite food.
A sequined POP popcorn box? Yes, please!

It's much shinier when the light's on it!
Woo!

It was only $4.95, and is by Forever 21's Girls line, an XL.
It fits! I plan on wearing it!

I can't resist a good blazer.
This is a gorgeous forest-y green - the colour was hard to capture. It's lined in white satin.

A detail of the woven fabric.
It has a single front button, and two inset pockets, neither of which have been fully opened.

Hard to read the tag, but it's 53% linen, 45% viscose and 2% stretch.
And it was made in Canada!

Smythe - I have this blazer by them - is not cheap.
The green one on their site right now is over $500.00! I saw a similar one on the RealReal for $279.00. Score!

I snapped this blazer up the second I spotted it - right near the end of my shop too!
Swoon! It's baby blue, black, cream and gold with black satin lapels, satin-covered buttons and three front pockets.

I spy a label on the cuff.
All woven! Look at that gorgeous brocade.

I found the quality control tag and a bag of spare buttons in one of the inside pockets.
Wait, three external pockets and multiple inside pockets? Oh, you know where this is going.

This is a men's blazer! Three pockets on this one side alone!
And a button-closed pocket on the opposite side. Of course it's a men's. Women's jackets never have all those pockets. Seven pockets! Can you imagine?

And of course the brand is Devil's Advocate.
It's a poly-cotton blend.

Looks like this retailed for 200 Pounds, which is $355.00 CAD.
So very good for $28.95! L really loves this, and it fits both of us, so we have agreed to share it.

I had a quick look through the dresses last - this maxi dress was on a pant clip and tied in a ball.
My breath caught when I undid the knot. What a cool pattern.

It's digitally flipped/mirrored trees in the rain? A rainy forest walk?
Something watery with trees!

It's by Ted Baker, and a size 4, which is misleading, as Ted used sizes like this:
  • 0 = XS
  • 1 = S
  • 2 = M
  • 3 = L
  • 4 = XL
So it's an XL, eh? I wonder how this non-stretchy strapless dress would fit me? Turns out, perfectly, but I'll be layering it over snug sweaters - I liked it over the top I was wearing.

Ted's usual tags. It's a good quality polyester.
The care instructions are hilarious.

Although it's polyester, you can't wash it! Also, avoid sharp objects, direct sunlight...you probably shouldn't look at it for long!
I did note that it says "Zaide" at the bottom right - I bet that's the model name.

I am correct! I'm not sure how old it is, but $34.95 for a Ted Baker is a good price.
I'm excited to wear this - it will have to be with heels as it's quite long on me.

Vizzini, what's your favourite?
"I suppose the orange kitty spaghetti thing."

Oh, I will have to keep the poncho fringe away from him!

Signing off now for the weekend, my friends, and wishing you all a good one. I'll be back on Sunday to share tales of adventure, so do swing by again soon!
