Ferries Blazer and Animal Impressions

More Boss-itude in today's outfit - a full-on power blazer!
My first blazers were my two that were my dad's, liberated from his closet when I was a teen in the 80s (I still have one of them, I think).

  • Blazer - Smythe, thrifted; purchased here for $28.95
  • Sweater - Fair Set, vintage 90s, thrifted; first worn here in December 2024 with the nutcracker jacket
  • Trousers - Frnch, thrifted; first seen here in December 2024 for a Mom-Day at Colquitz Creek
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog, consignment; last worn here in November with my NAS and cow-print
  • Eclipse coat (below) - Welsh, vintage 60s, consignment; last seen here in January

This green one is awesome - a great colour, an excellent fit and I love the strong shoulders and generous pockets.
It scrunches perfectly on my arms. All my blazers do this eventually.

Without, although I didn't take it off. A boring sweater, and my big faux croc embossed trousers.
I quite like them - this was their first time worn in the office. They flap around when I walk and also make squicky noises against themselves. Fun!

The blazer is not staying in my closet - it's off to Limbo. "Why?!!" I hear you asking - as my colleague Kayla said when I convinced her to try it on.
"Because it bores me."

Something was bugging me about it, and I realized that I have a memory of wearing a blazer this exact colour and cut, with a suit-blue pencil skirt around 1994-ish. I was on BC Ferry, going to Vancouver for work (a buying trip for the Christmas store!) and people kept coming up and asking me questions.

I realized I matched the carpet on the ferry and was wearing their corporate colours! I got rid of the blazer right away when I got home...although thinking about it now, I'm not sure why?
But I also struggled with making an outfit - this blazer is just too plain overall for me and didn't work with other things in my wardrobe (I tried it with a LOT)...so off it goes. I'll make a small profit when I sell it, and if I change my mind, Limbo's right there.

I did realize while taking these pictures that this is the best style for it.
Buttoned! I wore it like this all day. Felt like a badass.

Outerwear.
I was all about the texture today. Patterns, imprints.

Accoutrements:
This lovely silk scarf reminds me of an old map.

  • Toque - gift from Tammy
  • Brooch - Monet, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Silk scarf - Pierre Balmain, vintage 70s, thrifted
  • Leather gloves - vintage, thrifted

The stuff:
I am surprised that it's been months since I wore these snakeskin print shoes. So many shoes, so little time.

Sparkly bling:
With this python print leather belt, I complete the trifecta of animal! I win!

  • Belt - Simons, thrifted
  • Brooch - vintage, vintage pop-up
  • Bracelet with glass "gems" - NuWite by R & G Co., vintage 1920s, vintage mall
  • Crystal chain bracelet - thrifted; purchased here for $15.00
  • Reversible necklace - Stella & Dot, thrifted
  • Silver/green stone ring - thrifted
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Earrings - thrifted

Mom-Day is on for tomorrow! Woo!

  2. I'm loving the Boss-itude (excellent word!) of this outfit, Sheila, and the ferry blazer episode made me laugh. I've got a very similar belt, must dig it out someday. xxx

  3. Yes, agreed with Polyester Princess, I had a good chuckle in reading your story about the ferry blazer. ;-) That's the thing about clothing and accessories, while they can be heart warming reminders of the person who gifted them to us (either as a gift or a borrowed piece that somehow didn't get returned :-)) they can also be reminders of events, conversations, or people we aren't so keen on anymore. I think clothes and accessories are like food and music in their triggering of memories and people.

Anyway, I love your shoes, and that the belt and shoes look like they were once together but were then separated and, finally, reunited in your wardrobe, despite them likely not being the same type of snakeskin print. Okay, it's just fun to make up stories. ;-)

I spy a blurry Vizzini lurking in the hallway. :-) Here's to a fabulous time with your Mom tomorrow! Looking forward to seeing what you two get up to!
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. You're so right about clothes holding all those memories and associations, Laurie! They are very much like smells and music for me.

I also like making up stories about my clothes (sometimes they talk to each other).

Yes, he's been getting funny about the hall again, must be the warmer weather! Off to write now!
