Yellow, Pink and Gold for Book Club Holiday Dinner

Hello, my friends! I'm a little late due to our annual Book Club Holiday Dinner, but I'm sure you won't mind as my outfit is very colourful and happy-making!
As I mentally noted when I bought this top last weekend, I can totally make it almost-winter-appropriate just by layering a top under it!

  • Silk blend top - Marni, consignment; purchased here for $52.50
  • Sparkly turtleneck - Jacob, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) a week or so ago, layered under silk
  • Skirt - St. John, thrifted; first worn here in December 2024 with gold lace and black suede
  • Boots - Mellow Bebop, Fluevog; last seen here (2nd outfit) in October with regret-me-nots
  • Leather coat (below) - Jeno de Paris, vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here for a Mom-Day in March
I loved it like this, with the hem hanging down over the pink wool-blend skirt.
You can't see it here, but I have black tights on to echo the black turtleneck - the skirt has a high side-slit for walking.

These are distinctly non-seasonal colours!
And yet, it's still fancy enough.

The offset "fin" in the back.
The skirt is a lovely stretchy knit in my favourite shade of strawberry ice cream pink.

And then I went Full Elf!
I had to pick something in case it rained even more torrentially - we had massive storms and dumps of rain all night.

The stuff:
I was so pleased at how well this scarf picked up all the colours!

  • Wool beret - Parkhurst, consignment
  • Large tree pin - Keyes, gift from Ev, c. 1989
  • Small tree pin - Avon
  • Silk scarf - Yves Saint Laurent, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Leather gloves - Echo, consignment
  • Belt - gift from Ruth, c. 2007

I walked to work in the boots, then strolled over to Zambri's in the evening to join my lovely big Book Club for our annual Holiday Dinner.

Gold bling:
The double necklace worked well.

  • Short necklace - Givenchy, vintage 80s, vintage fair
  • Gold-tone bangle - thrifted
  • Pink stone gold-tone cuff - D'Orlan, vintage 70s, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Brass Brutalist ring - vintage mall
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Earrings - Kate Spade, consignment
  • Long pewter/gold-plated necklace - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, vintage mall, gift from L

I took a selfie inside while I waited for the restaurant to open.
We had a delicious dinner, but it was very busy and we had a long table, so we couldn't hear each other talk.

So after our meal, we moved out to one of the tables in the Atrium and discussed our previous book (Blob: A Love Story by Maggie Su - we all felt rather "meh" about it.
From me, clockwise: Jennifer, Caro, Yvonne, Rosanna, Mindy, Ciara and Cat. Love you all!

Leaving you with two very snoozy kittens.
Whateley, keeping me company on the desk (I'm never getting that cashmere scarf back).

And Barnabas on the chair behind me.
Very sweet...when they're sleeping!

  2. A fabulous splash of vividness and, even though you wrote it on Wednesday, I am reading it Thursday morning and can state unequivocally that THE COLOR IS MOST NEEDED THIS MORNING. (I needed to shout that, it won't happen again, pinky swear!) I think your selfie is beautiful :-) and it highlights your rings. :-)

I am about to start Isabel Allende's ZORRO. I am a big fan of her writing despite not loving all of her books that I've read. Hoping this book will transport me as some of my favorites of hers have done.

Hi to your Mom if you see her today! Cheers, Laurie

    1. I do this - gobs of colour - for any day, and I definitely needed it! No worries about shouting, Laurie. :-) I must post more selfies (ha), so you can see my rings on.
I have not read that (although I've seen the movie and a play of Zorro). Our next book is "The Power" by Naomi Alderman.
I'm feeling doubtful about Mom-Day - it's cold and VERY windy out. I don't really want to go out in it...

  3. Your scarf really does tie everything together, as if it was made for you, or at least for this outfit. I have to thank you for teaching me about layering. I've found opportunities in my limited wardrobe for extending seasonal clothing, and it is fun.

    1. A little thing like the perfect scarf makes the outfit for me, thank you! Aw, I'm so glad you've been experimenting with layering! It really does make a huge difference in being able to wear lighter clothes for other seasons.

Would you look at those boys all zonked out, I wonder what mischief they got up to beforehand. xxx

    1. Thanks, Vix! We've been doing a Holiday Dinner for several years, and I'm so glad we were able to all make it.
Ha, that is at the end of the day...and I have yet to find a missing earring and my wee wooden Katti black cat pin! :-(

  5. That outfit is very happy-making indeed. I love how you winterized that Marni top, and the colour of that skirt is absolutely delicious. As for those boots, I am totally dazzled!
