Monday Crinkles and a Bad Blouse

I had to be in the office 30 minutes sooner due to a very early meeting, so I had to skip my morning coffee at home. My brain took a while to catch up.
I do not like this blouse. It does not work. Bye, blouse!

  • Blouse - Religion, thrifted; purchased here for $7.00
  • Skirt - Oska, consignment; last worn here in April with copper and orange
  • Shoes - Sol Sana; last seen here in September 2025 with Adidas and Dries

It's just all the wrong shape and doing all the wrong things. Ugh.
So let's focus on the skirt, which is the most crinkly of all. This may be the piece that started me down this pleated and crinkled path I've been on lately.

Incognito.
It was cloudy and windy...but still roasting hot. It hit 30 today - okay, I was grateful for the office AC!

The stuff:
These shoes are still going strong. I was surprise that I hadn't worn them yet this season - clearly an oversight!

  • Round crystal brooch - the Bay, c. 1999
  • Star brooch - consignment

I wore the brooches at the neck of the blouse and down the front button placket.

Silvery bling:
I was going for a romantic-goth vibe, and it worked for the jewelry!

  • Lace cuff - handmade in Nashville
  • Filigree bracelet - St. Paul's Cathedral gift shop, London
  • Silver/obsidian ring - consignment
  • Silver snake ring - BC Museum gift shop, c. 1986
  • Silver loopy ring - consignment, Sidney
  • Silver pinky ring - consignment, Sidney
  • Earrings - Chan Luu, consignment

Barnabas really wanted to play but was also feeling rather warm.
"I want to chase the ball..."

He batted it up in the air.
"Evil ball! Die!"

The ball hid behind the footstool.
"I will pounce...later."

Contemplating the ball.
"Did you say something?"

And he's off!
"You'll rue the day you messed with Barnabas!"

Stay chill, my friends!

  1. Poor old Barnabas - hot weather's probably not fun for a glossy little black cat.

The blouse conceals your shape, somehow. Maybe it's the volume at the height it's hitting. There will be an upgrade out there!

    1. It's far too voluminous, Mim! I want a big skirt in this fabric!

  2. I see what you mean about the blouse--too bad the cut is unfortunate, because the fabric is gorgeous!

This is the kind of thing I would keep in my wardrobe for YEARS trying unsuccessfully to make work, so I admire your "out it goes" clarity. Always Be Upgrading.

    1. "Unfortunate" is kind, Julia! Lol, you're right - I thought, "Well, maybe I can make it work," and then looked at the pictures again (and these are the best ones!), and said NO.

  3. What a shame the blouse isn't right , the print is fabulous with that skirt!
William loves the sun even though it makes him cranky as hell! xxx

    1. Right? It's good - but the blouse's shape is horrid.
Ha, I can picture him, getting annoyed at the hot sun!

  4. Does the blouse have to be tied? Could it be worn untied and belted in at the waist and worn with your asymmetric red skirt? Or is it just too big for you? Well, you have plenty of other lovely tops to wear if you decide to send this one to limbo. By the way your hair looks fabulous!

    1. No, it could be tucked in, but then it looks even droopier. The arms are set very low, and it's just overall very SAGGY. I'm afraid it can't be redeemed with me - the pictures are horrendous!
      Thank you!

  5. I can totally see why you bought the blouse as the print is lovely but yeah, not working. It is hard to imagine it being good for anyone. Oh well, you have so many other cool blouses in your wardrobe it won’t be missed.

  6. Love the skirt, but the blouse is such a could have been kinda thing. I wonder who it would have looked good on.

  7. That blouse is very eye-catching but if you don't like it or if it is hard to style...bye it is. I like it in this look, but I can imagine it might not be the most versatile item...love how you styled it here but I understand why you are letting it go.
    Early meetings are the worst.
    Love your cats always!

    1. I included the best pics, and believe me, it did not look good!
      Thanks, Ivana!

  8. Completely agree - bad blouse, Super skirt. :-) the only way I can picture the blouse is as an open (over a close fitting top) or closed tunic over leggings. As for Barnabas, the ball and the heat…the heat has been roller coasting us toward the summer solstice. Meanwhile our Belgian family is stuck in the midst of a 7-8 day heat dome. It’s a hot topic. 🥵
PS I am typing this comment on Saturday June 20, somehow having managed to miss a week. I attribute it to our few days of high temps! Cheers, Laurie

    1. I thought of that as well, Laurie, and tried it with a slimmer bottom, but it didn't look right. Too much work, so off it goes!
It's been wild temperature fluctuations here. Hope you have nice, middling temps!
