Mom-Day at Home in Rose Suede and Fringe

Hello, my friends, and welcome back to Mom-Day! Mom and I had a lovely time, but outfit first, plus a few pictures from Ronnie's retirement shindig last night.
Isn't that a treat? These are my favourite blooms of the year and this block was full of them. They're about 4 days from being perfect.

Outfit!
I built it around this new-to-me thrifted thin sweater. I liked everything about this outfit...except for that grey windbreaker. It's gone.

  • Nylon windbreaker - Stella McCartney X Adidas, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in December 2024 with pink and neon for brunch
  • Sweater - Denim Supply Ralph Lauren, thrifted; purchased here for $14.95
  • Suede skirt - Kelco Leather, vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here in February with degraded fake leather
  • Booties - Austen Biblio, Fluevog; last seen here (3rd outfit) in September 2025 for Winesday
  • Suede coat (below) - Mangoon, vintage 90s, thrifted; last worn here in December 2025

When I wear a lot of layers, I'm never quite sure what my end outfit will be.
I should have stopped here - I like this! I adore this rose-pink suede skirt.

I don't mind this styling. The jacket is handy because it has pockets.
I mostly wore it tied like this - which I like - but whenever I wore it done up, I did not like it.

Incognito and atrocious.
Nope, this grey monstrosity has had 5 chances, and it's just not working. I paid $13.47 for it two years ago, so that's $2.69 per wear. I'm sure I will be able to move this along to someone who looks fabulous in it.

I only needed the jacket done up very briefly in the morning.
"Cool Cats Read" tote was a buy-with-purchase at Indigo when I was in Hamilton to visit Elaine in 2019. I use this bag a lot - it's holding our lunch (homemade soup) there.

The stuff:
I'm happy to have these boots back in my closet. As they're velvet, I put them away for the rainy season, but I should really keep them out.

  • Leather purse - Aimee Kestenberg, thrifted, Powell River

Mixed bling:
Little bits of happiness.

  • Leather/chain bracelet - Jenny Bird, consignment
  • Tile/mesh bracelet - Mom's, vintage 70s
  • Small chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Silver/smoky topaz ring - Anneli Neumann, Sweden, vintage mall
  • Silver/onyx spider ring - vintage 1986, gift from Mom and Dad
  • Silver/carnelian ring - thrifted
  • Bead/leather choker - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Gold-plated pewter Brutalist necklace - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, vintage mall, gift from L
  • Earrings - Chan Luu, consignment

Before we get to the Mom-Day fun, here's a few pictures from Ron's party.
Me and the man! Way to go, Ron, enjoy your retirement! I'll be there soon enough!

Me, Yvonne, Cat and Ross.
Beautiful, golden sunshine behind us.

This was in the Clubhouse section of the Sticky Wicket Pub at the Strathcona Hotel, which is full of lovely little nooks and crannies.
My coworker's retirement party was here not long ago, in a different section. This area becomes a nightclub and that's a dance floor.

L and I went to Noodle Box and got our yummy food to go.
Rocking it, always!

As we zoomed up a street, the cathedral was bathed in that golden light.
How lovely. My grandparents (Mom's folks) were married here.

This morning as I was getting ready, I heard a noise in the tub.
"Do you mind? I am inspecting!"

Whateley, get out of the tub.
"Well, the gargoyle isn't going to do a proper job."

I'd love to discuss this further, but I have to go!
The SHEEPS are snoozing under the apple trees in the shade.

I could see the Olympic Mountains in Washington state.
This area was filled with birdsong.

Our usual suspects.
The robins were in full force!

A carpet of daisies in front of the clubhouse.
These weren't here last time.

Mom gasped at this picture, so I know it's a good one.
My path was mostly dry - we've had little rain, although it's supposed to rain on Saturday.

Mom's lilacs will be out soon.
I apparently missed the Easter lilies which are hidden back there. Sorry, Mom!

A tulip, some purple things.
A fluffy daffodil.

This hellebore is gorgeous.
They're so pretty.

Another lone tulip and the polyanthus.
I see two dandelions! But I also know that Mom supports bees and insects that need all these different plants.

There she is! We returned the medical equipment to the Red Cross that she'd had since her fall in February, and then celebrated Mom's return to her normal life with ginger ale and ginger beer, plus my soup and a grilled ham and cheese. YUM.
We hung out and chatted and worked on the jigsaw puzzle until Mom got tired, and then I headed home. Thanks so much for the visit, Mom - I love you!

Rodney came by while we were catching up.
He needs a good brushing - that poor kitty.

On my way back to the bus stop - look what I found!
Easter lilies! I walked into the forest to take this picture.

More of them on the side of the path.
Once I saw them, they were everywhere!

One more look at the sheep.
It was a gorgeous warm day, with temps up to 17!

When I got home, the boys did not come running. Oh no, they were out on the deck.
"I'm hot and sleepy!"

He's just eating it up.
"I love the sun!"

Whateley in the bedroom, looking out the window.
"As I do."

He's such a pretty cat, and he's become very affectionate and purry.

I'm going to need to update the deck lighting! The constable needs to patrol!
"Do this immediately."

I will, I will!

My friends, I'm off now for the weekend, but I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure. Thank you so much for your kind words and comments - every one makes me smile!

  1. I haven't caught up with you for a while but here I am, admiring that suede skirt again. I agree with you about the grey jacket. There must be someone that it will enhance, but it wouldn't be me, either. In fact I have a grey knit jacket that is on the way out soon. The photos of Whateley in the bathroom are hilarious. Those cats could be hired out for photo enthusiasts!
So good to see your Mom looking so well now. I would love to groom poor Rodney. The dog next door comes over when there is no snow blocking his way, and he gets a dog biscuit and free grooming and positive affirmation. He is one happy beagle. I should bill his owner!

  2. Love the rose suede skirt. Perfection! Haha yes the grey monstrosity must go. Whateley looks so cute standing on the gargoyle. Have a good weekend!
