Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up: Friday Wrinkles and Issey; Pink and Orange Brunch; Black for Winesday; Art Project Completed: Yvonne's Badass Boots

Ah, the weekend was a relief after a very busy and tiring week. We had a fairly quiet weekend, with a Winesday/MANday in there, and L and I are in the process of hopefully adopting a new kitten. We will of course share him as soon as we have him at home. EXCITING!

But first, clothes! This is what I wore to the office on Friday.
As you can see, I couldn't wait to wear the new-to-me mesh draped skirt that I bought the day before!

  • Toga top - Zara, consignment; first seen here in May with plaid pants a  maxi-bomber
  • Skirt - Zara, consignment; purchased here for $26.00 NWT
  • Sandals - Lucky Brand; last worn here in June with a crinkly skirt
  • Jacket - Issey Miyake, consignment, Sidney; first seen here in May with a cosmic top

I peeked over the railing to see if Kes was around - and he was!
"Where is that noise coming from?"

I made the "pssss psss" noise and I know he can hear me, but he hasn't figured out I'm above him. Neighbour Zsa Zsa was also out and spotted me, but the picture wasn't very good. Kes, send us good vibes for our kitty adoption!

Getting in another wearing of my "toga" top and all its wrinkles, which I'm just accepting.
I belted over the peplum again and liked how it covered the elastic waistband of the skirt. I loved the skirt and am excited to integrate it into the rest of the closet.

Incognito. I thought I might need my Issey cardigan/jacket in the office, but did not.
I took the belt off the top and belted it over the jacket. I like this look!

The stuff:
I pack these sandals away for fall/winter, and usually the matchy belt too.

  • Silk scarf - Vera, vintage, consignment, Powell River
  • Python Belt - Leather of the Sea, vintage 80s, thrifted

Pearly bling:
I knotted the chain of the necklace to keep the pearl off to the side - it hung where you see it, while the weight of the pin pulled the chain down.

  • Pearl bracelet - thrifted Powell River
  • Gold/turquoise ring - consignment
  • Silver/crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence, Italy
  • Stone ring - thrifted
  • Silver/amber ring - consignment
  • Chain bracelet - thrifted
  • Pearl necklace - thrifted
  • Pearl earrings - vintage fair
  • Seashell brooch (on chain) - JJ, vintage 80s, consignment, Powell River
  • Pearl ring (not shown) - The Pearl Factory, 1985, Hawaii
Oops, forgot to take my pearl ring off.

L and I headed down to John's Place for brunch. More short skirts to be worn! Backwards hangers in the short skirt department, ahoy!
Even sheer tights, like these lacy ones, give me more Thigh Security.

  • Blazer - InWear; last seen here with warm leopard in July
  • Sparkly top - M by Missoni, thrifted; last worn here with patchwork denim in May
  • PVC skirt - Nine West, consignment, Vancouver; last seen here in October 2024 for a Mom-Day at the HCP
  • Boots - Original Mittwoch, Fluevog; last worn here for Mom-Day at Elk Lake with blue and orange

See my little black wooden cat pin? A kitten is (hopefully!) coming soon...
I liked the orange and pink mix in this outfit.

I'm not sure if this pink faux leather skirt is a keeper. I wear it once or twice a year.
It's rather short, so I always need to wear tights with it.

But it has one big plus:
Pockets!

Incognito.
L and I did a big shop at the local Bosley's pet store, picking up all kinds of new things for a new furry family member: a new litter box and scooper, new bowls and water fountain, toys and kitten food. We are ready!

The stuff:
I love these boots, but they are a commitment, and I had Winesday on Saturday evening and didn't want to deal with taking them off/on multiple times.

  • Leather purse - Michael Kors, consignment
  • Silk scarf - Marc Rosier, consignment

Silver bling:
Heavy metal.

  • Plastic cuff - Italian, vintage 60s, vintage mall
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Silver mesh cuff - consignment, Sidney
  • Steel/Lucite ring - Calvin Klein, thrifted
  • Wooden cat pin - consignment
  • Silver/onyx necklace - Mexican, consignment, Powell River
  • Earrings - c. 1996, consignment

I changed up some of the outfit for Winesday. We hung out in Linda's backyard under her pergola while torrential rain pattered down around us. It was still warm out, though.
Stretchy jeans for sitting around.

  • Top - M by Missoni, thrifted; worn above
  • Vest - Religion, consignment; last seen here (4th outfit) in August with green velour
  • Jeans - Scotch & Soda, thrifted; last worn here in August with my Banksy tee
  • Boots - Austen Biblio, Fluevog; last seen here in August at Rithet's Bog with Mom
  • Blazer - InWear; last worn above

A vest for another layer of warmth, just in case it got cold.
Not a very exciting outfit (that's a lot of black), but good for chilling with my women.

More pockets!
I cabbed to Linda's and back with Cat and Yvonne.

Accoutrements:
No change to the bag/scarf, but zip-on/zip-off boots. Of course it rained...because I wore velvet boots!

Purple bling:
The belt is reversible, with caramel on the other side of the pink.

  • Belt - Calvin Klein, thrifted
  • Leather/chain wrap - local
  • Leather cuff - thrifted
  • Cat pin - consignement
  • Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
  • Silver/amethyst/gold ring - gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1985
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Earrings - Kate Spade
  • Necklace - vintage glass beads (belonging to some relative), restrung years ago by me

Art Project: Yvonne's Badass Boots

I last updated my progress here a couple of weeks ago.

After setting up all the new kitty stuff, I had some time free in the afternoon, so I finished up Yvonne's boots! The grey pen I bought was a bit darker than the one I'd used on the first boot, so I went over it so they'd match.
A light round of shadows and we were done.

This took about 3 hours.
My hands were sore when I was done.

All done, ready to take and give to Yvonne!
I hoped she would like them - I have been keeping her apprised of progress.

She immediately had to put them on.
I'd recommend a sock!

Model them for me!
Showing the skull and crossbones on the heel. That's the badass part!

They look great!
I hope you wear them lots! Free touch-ups anytime you need 'em.

And there we are, my friends, another weekend gone far too fast. I will be updating as soon as we get a kitten - I'm ridiculously excited but trying to be CHILL about it.

Thank you so much for being here!

Mom-Day at Cadboro Bay Beach in White Denim and a Tiger, Plus a Wee Shop

Welcome back, my friends - ready for a Mom-Day Adventure at Gyro Park/Cadboro Bay? It's been SO long since we visited this spot - August 2022 (here) was the last time!
We were lucky to have a beautiful 100% clear day, with temps up to 24 and a light breeze. Pretty much perfect!

I haven't worn this tiger sweater yet this season - I always have a few sweaters out for chillier days.
I figured it would be chillier in the shade and on the water - and I was right. But I did shed the sweater on the way home.

  • Tiger embroidered sweater - Kenzo, vintage 00s, thrifted; last seen here in November 2024 for a Mom-Day at home
  • Public Enemy tee - show merch, purchased here at Rifflandia for $50.00
  • Denim skirt - Talbots, thrifted; last worn here in July with flannel
  • Suede boots - Bond Girl, Fluevog X Anna Sui; last seen here in April with acid wash denim

I planned this outfit to be worn two ways in case of weather fluctuations.
Sweater on, tucked on one side to show the green belt (matchy!).

A surprise tiger tail on the back!
The white denim skirt is a repeat wearing for the season - it provided a nice neutral for all the colours.

Ahoy, is that my bus I see?
I pulled out the greens and blues in the tiger for my bits.

On the way home I stopped at Rich Rags for a wee shop and got so warm trying stuff on, I had to switch to Option 2.
Public Enemy! Yeah! I tied the sweater around my waist so you could see the tiger in back.

The stuff:
These boots had many admirers, including a flag woman and folks on the beach.

  • Leather purse - Danier Leather, thrifted
  • Silk scarf - Aga Khan Museum, thrifted

Bold bling:
My necklace also had its fans.

  • Belt - Fluevog
  • Plastic chain necklace - consignment
  • Lucite/silver cuff - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
  • Turquoise stone bracelet - thrifted
  • Silver/malachite ring - consignment
  • Silver/green stone ring -thrifted
  • Lapis lazuli ring - Wendy Brandes
  • Iridescent earrings - consignment

I hopped a bus up to the University of Victoria and walked down Sinclair Hill, which is being ripped up and having bike lanes added.
I could see a glimpse of water - that's Cadboro Bay.

I sent my bestie Janet a picture of Pepper's Market.
When we were teens, we scandalized the staff and customers at Pepper's by buying popsicles in our bikinis. Ha!

A lovely tree-lined walk to the parking lot.
Lovely light.

The octopus at Gyro Park has been repainted. I'm not sure why it has a safety cone on its head.
I see the blue salmon on the left too.

I loved playing here as a kid. There's a Cadborosaurus and a pirate ship for climbing on too.
I waited for Mom to arrive.

I sat on one of these rocks and just looked around.
What a beautiful place.

I took a selfie.
You can get a good look at the tiger there.

And this...
Is the bay. Ten Mile Point is on the left, and there's a Marina on the right.

Zooming in to see the Olympic Mountains.
They're in Washington State, to the south.

The accessibility is superb at Cadboro Bay.
Willows Beach could learn a thing or two!

There were lots of people around.
Boats anchored in the bay.

It's not like I get tired of the view.
The tide was quite low, but not stinky low.

My boots left a perfect footprint.
We strolled along, raucous crows flying around overhead.

Let's look at the mountains again.
Ah...

We headed to the left and walked along on the sandy section near the water.
I love walking on hard sand.

I found a piece of beach glass!
I put it in my purse to be discovered sometime in the future.

Sun glinting off the water.
A floating chunk of log.

The crows liked this tree.
Someone's built a structure out of driftwood.

A young seagull looking for crabs.
I didn't see any.

But there were a lot of gulls.
So it must be good pickings.

We spotted a head bobbing in the water.
It's a seal! She watched the beach for a while, then ducked under and disappeared.

Another structure.
We were ready for a rest.

Looking back from where we'd come.
That dog is supposed to be on a leash.

Hideous view.
We sat on a big old cedar log and just looked around.

"They're brave," noted Mom of the two women who'd waded out into the water.
Cold! That's Pacific Ocean, baby.

Two kayakers slipped between sailboats.
They pulled up on shore a few minutes later.

More people and their dogs splashing in the water. The black one was very well-trained.
Lots of students from UVic come down here for peace and quiet.

The seal watched the dogs dubiously.
That was the last we saw of her.

We headed back for the car.
"Tomato Sloop" is a clever name!

We had lunch at the Monkey Tree Pub. Mom got distracted.
I didn't know what she was laughing at.

"It's him!" she pointed. Our server Gian was making faces at her.
I'm still smiling - that was a wonderful day, Mom, thank you. I love you!

I bused to town and picked up some more markers so I could work on Yvonne's Badass Boots, then had a thorough browse at Rich Rags where I had some luck.
This skirt is layers of mesh-like nylon, and is twisted so that the hem is slightly ballooned.

I took pictures of the tags in the change room so I'd remember the prices.
It's by Zara and it was $26.00 (they generously gave me 10% off).

It was regular $55.90.
It's a taupe-y brown colour and it has good swooshiness!

This wool-blend sweater made me gasp.
Gorgeous knit - the pattern is very 3D-looking.

It's by Missoni Sport, and the label indicates it's from the 90s.
I love the mix of colours: black, white, grey, taupe, blue and even a bit of yellow.

A nice "Made in Italy" tag.
The fit on this is slim - and it's a bit itchy due to the high wool and mohair content - I'll be wearing a layer under this in the chilly days ahead.

It was $63.00 with my 10% off.
I saw similar ones online for $100-600+!

This is a big cobalt blue knit dress, very thick.
It has a big slash on the right side there, to above the knee.

It's Rachel by Rachel Roy.
And it looks amazing on! I have an event coming up that I might wear this to.

This black mesh dress will be a good layering piece.
I like the idea of the mesh skirt part of it showing. I won't ever be wearing it just as is!

It's by Cover Me, a Canadian company that specializes in beach wear.
It will be a good layering piece.

Again, changeroom pictures.
The blue knit dress was NWT (New With Tags), originally prices at $199.00, marked down to $109.96 originally, but only $63.00 for me. I recognize the price tags from the now-closed Bay department store. The sheer dress was $18.00.

And now that I've touched sand, my friends, it's time to sign off for another weekend.
This one won't be as crazy (I hope). I'll be back on Sunday with tales of adventure! See you there!
