The Force is Itchy With the Jedi Dress

Hello, Gentle Reader! I was inspired last night to put together an outfit around this browny-olive wool dress. Colleague Vizz said I looked like a Jedi in it.
..which actually made me love it, particularly now that I see the pictures.

  • Mesh top - Dolce & Gabbana, consignment, Powell River; first worn here (2nd outfit) in October 2023
  • Wool dress - Mango Committed, consignment; purchased here for $44.79 in gift cards
  • Boots - Matisse, consignment; last seen here in a poufy skirt for my birthday lunch in October 2024
  • Coat (below) - C&A Golden Gate Collection, vintage 80s, thrifted; last seen worn here in December 2024

I layered my mesh D&G top underneath to take advantage of the deep V neckline of the dress.
But the thin mesh was no match for the wool fibres that poked through! I found it itchy on the back of my neck, wherever it directly touched my skin. Lesson learned! The dress needs full coverage layers.

I did love the pockets, and you can just glimpse my vintage Christian Dior slip peeking out of the slit in the front.
And these pockets are fabulously large.

I tried the dress without a belt, but no, it needs one, otherwise it's a very saggy situation.
I do love a dress that I can throw boot/belt combos at, and it's still in my closet, with the aim of doing a thicker set of layers under it next time (perhaps royal blue or red?).

It layered well under my Princess Coat.
My coworker Siddharth asked if it was suede - it's velvet, just as good!

I love the ginormous collar - so snuggly warm.
The pockets barely hold my keys and mp3 player. Fah! Even in the 80s, they were skimping on pockets.

Accoutrements:
I remembered to grab a pair of really warm gloves.

  • Wool beret - thrifted
  • Silk scarf - thrifted
  • Leather/fur gloves - thrifted

The stuff:
I walked to/from work in these boots - I've had them for so long (2016), and they are nicely worn in. This is their 53rd wearing - yes, you read that right!

Brass bling:
I enjoy the weight of the metal mesh belt - the front of it is a raffia-type fibre.

  • Belt - Sand Castle USA, thrifted
  • Brass/leather cuff - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Brass cuff - Midzo, vintage expo
  • Brass/glass necklace/ring - Rafael Canada, vintage 70s, consignment
  • Brass ring - vintage 70s, vintage mall
  • Earrings - thrifted

  1. Ooh, I love this one, Sheila! The leopard mesh top, belt and fabulous necklace are absolutely perfect with it. I'm itching all over just reading about it being itchy at the back of your neck. That would drive me absolutely nuts :-) xxx

  2. Jedi Dress and Princess Coat…there is a definite theme going on here, at least with the names. ;)
Itchy clothing is a definite NO so I’m glad the dress will remain but with a different undergarment for the next wearing. Your boots are fabulous…the color, height of the leg, walkable heel, and the comfort that comes from 53 wearings! Oh yes to royal blue or red next time for the under top!
As I type this am imagining you and your Mom enjoying an Adventure later in the day (ThursdY 10:42am NY time, you two might still be in pjs. :))
    Cheers, Laurie
