Sharp Chevrons, Loopy Belt and a Case of the Greys

Back to work, and had a case of the greys...
...and the blurries! The light is getting dim in the morning.

  • Sweater - Maison Scotch by Scotch & Soda, thrifted; last worn here in December 2023 for a trip to the periodontist
  • Skirt - no label, vintage 70s, thrifted; purchased here for $21.95
  • Shoes - Summertime Moonbeams, Fluevog, 2007, consignment; last seen here in May with a painty skirt and a velvet jacket
  • Leather trenchcoat (below) - vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn here in April

I built this outfit around this new-to-me vintage skirt, picked up at the thrift store for a song.
I admire the sharp Vs, as they are actually knit stripes, cut and sewn to match and create chevrons.

I loved wearing it all day, admiring its swoosh and the perfect length.
I prefer my skirts on the long side. It did not get caught in my chair wheels - victory!

The grey sweater is a wool blend, with a wide neck, body and sleeves, offset by the wide cuffs and hem.
Chunky sweaters and I don't usually get along, but this one works. I like how the loopy belt lays; it stayed in place nicely.

Incognito. This leather trenchcoat has been with me...oh, it has to be 10 years at least. I didn't always post my outerwear early on in the blog, so my first few wearings weren't tracked.

I counted back to 2017 just now and got 73 wearings before I ran out of links! I actually FOUND the post where I bought it, and I was correct - it was bought here in January 2014...and I paid $18.50 for it. I'm boggled.
I love how it looks with the long skirt. I felt so chic, striding down the sidewalk in this.

Accoutrements:
Skulls! This is just a cheapy polyester scarf, but the years do roll on. This was a 39th birthday purchase for myself, while on vacation in San Francisco.

  • Scarf - MetroWear, San Francisco, 2006
  • Gloves - Thinsulate, thrifted

The stuff:
I'm totally cheating, having left my bag o' shoes at the office (d'oh!). This picture is from when I first bought these shoes back here in July 2021. That feels very long ago.

The stuff I remembered to wear home!
While this isn't a Suzi Roher belt, I still really liked it - the loops are good quality, although the materials used to link them are crap (elastic with vinyl and cheap metal).

  • Belt - thrifted; purchased here for $12.95

Still, it's a cute belt.

Bold bling:
I like the gold "fangs" on the bracelet.

  • Hinged Lucite/gold bracelet/earrings - Alexis Bittar, consignment, gift from L
  • Bracelet with amber glass - NuWite by R&G Co., vintage 1930s, vintage mall
  • Silver/onyx spider ring - c. 1987, gift from Mom & Dad
  • Silver snake ring - BC Museum Gift Shop, c. 1986
  • Bronze ring - P. Sarpaneva, vintage 70s, vintage expo

I wear my snake and spider rings a lot this time of year.

A bunch of coworkers were in the office for a month-end event, and I was so happy to see my sweet colleague Kirill - he gave me this print, brought all the way from the Czech Republic.
It's from the "Small Cityscapes of Prague" series of prints, sold mostly as souvenirs. It's small, about 4 x 4", not including the wooden frame.

It's by Alexandra Obrovska - I found an auction listing here (link 'cause I love, you'll need to translate) for one of her original paintings, and which has a history of her work.
Prodejni Galerie is where Kirill bought it. He and I often had deep conversations at the end of the day in the lunchroom while I refilled the coffee machines and tea supplies, back in the Before Times (pre-pandemic). What a lovely treasure from one of my favourite coworkers.

How could I stay grey with that ray of sunshine?

  1. How thoughtful of your colleague. And what a gorgeous skirt. I also love V stripes. But the colours speak the most to me!

  2. The day might have begun with a case of the greys but between the fall colors of the Chevrons and the vibrancy of the print with the world it conjures sounds like the greys were outnumbered! I especially like the bronze ring and the hinged lucite earrings, the first for its color and the second for its visual lines - perfect lines to accessorize a Chevron pattern.
