Sorry for the absence, my friends - Mom cancelled Mom-Day, as she had a literally bumpy ride that rattled her around, and needed a long soak to get herself back together.
But as a special bonus, here's Friday, plus an update on Yvonne's Badass Boots.
My shiny sheer leopard topper came out to play and help show off the new-to-me lavender bookends.
- Sheer top - Noisy May, consignment; purchased here for $30.00
- Cotton/silk over-jacket - Dries Van Noten, consignment; last worn here (2nd outfit) in February with the now-gone skants
- Lined linen pants - Nine West, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) in June with my Escada butterfly blazer
- Shoes - Call It Spring, consignment; purchased here for $60.00
I had been waffling over this very tricky to style jacket-y thing - when I suddenly realized I've been approaching it wrong. It's a windbreaker! It's sporty!
I immediately tied it around my waist and wore it like this all day in the office (which was dead). I liked the lavender mesh top, which I of course layered with a neutral camisole.
I also realized that this windbreaker worn long like this does not work on me!
The top half of me looks like a licorice jelly-bean.
This is how I've always worn it, but I should have looked at it more closely.
I'm blob-ifying myself.
I realized after taking this picture that it looks better worn higher, bloused at my waist.
I took the Stair Picture last, so you see how my mental progression works. The stuff:
I was ecstatic with these shoes - I walked both ways to work in them, and they were awesome. Comfy, no rubbing at all. They're nice and squishy inside too.
- Silk scarf - Kenzo, vintage 80s, thrifted
Silver and purple bling:
The earrings are iridescent - when I look through them, I see turquoise! - Lucite/silver cuff - Alexis Bittar, consignment, Vancouver
- Silver/gold cuff - JPA, vintage fair
- Anneke & Lars silver ring - vintage mall
- Silver/amethyst ring - vintage mall
- Amethyst/silver ring - Mexican, gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1988ish
- Acrylic earrings - consignment
- Silver Celtic S pendant - UK, gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1994?
- Amethyst crystal pendant - gift from Mom & Dad, c. 1988ish
Art Project Update: Yvonne's Badass Boots
Go here for the last update in July.
Since I had the day to myself, instead of going for a wee shop (I've done plenty in the last little while, good to rest), I set myself up in my favourite spot on the deck under the beautiful blue sky and worked on a single boot all day.
I finished colouring in the black "straps" - still need to do the piece along the sole in the above picture. Next up is to fill in all the grey - this takes 2-3 coats to get the colour dark enough.

I neglected to take a picture of the grey filled in (I get in the moment and forget - time flies by), but here's the outside of that same boot.
The black straps also require multiple coats, and tiny pinpricks of cream show through in places, so I was constantly trying to fill those in. It's the leather surface itself, not the pens, that causes that.

For fun, scroll up and down between these two pics - above and below. It's the same view, so you can see how much has been done.
And several hours later, I finished this bootie. I shaded behind the straps to make them pop.
I also shaded where the grey straps cross, to make them look like they're woven on top of each other.

This is the inside of the left shoe, and I've written "Yvonne's Badass Boots" in the arch. The other one will get the date and my signature.
One bootie down, one to go! The other is still plain cream with just the outlines of the straps done, and the squiggles to tell me which ones will be black.

And now, off to enjoy my weekend - please pop back on Sunday for tales of adventure!
Oh, the gray is so fun on the boots! It really adds dimension. I hope your mother is recombombulated from the jostling.
