Pebble Pants, a Red Tunic and a Sandal Scandal

It's been a while since I actually worked on a Monday - it felt odd.
Nothing new in this outfit - oh, that's not true! The little sheer socks are new - and this is the best picture to see them so take a good gander.

  • Tunic - Miting, consignment; last worn here in June 2024 with a bronze pleated skirt
  • Silk trousers - Stella McCartney, consignment, Vancouver; last seen here in July with a peach graphic tee
  • Sandals - Faith Low Reumah, Fluevog; last worn here in August 2023 with gone poppies and culottes
  • Suede coat (below) - Danier Leather, consignment; last seen here in March

I did some playtime in my closet on the weekend, putting together a bunch of outfits from newly purchased things, plus just whatever struck my fancy.
I am very fond of this red linen tunic - it's such a cool shape. I last wore it with a big full skirt - which looked really cool - but I like it best with flowy trousers.

These pebble patterned pants are lovely and light and they have large pockets.
These are silk with a touch of stretch, and are *chi-chi designer alert* Stella McCartney. I did a full fix of the hems on them last year - knowing how to hand-sew is useful!

Do you remember when socks-and-sandals was a crime worthy of a fine from the Fashion Police? I sure do, and I had been known to spout some "NEVER!" nonsense about it too.
I'm eating my words, because I enjoyed these sheer embroidered socks, and I did not mind the thin cream sock peeping out of the sandals. Better than freezing toes!

I like the curved hem on the tunic - it's such a surprising shape.
It wrinkles but eh, it's linen. I layered a camisole underneath for warmth.

Incognito. I thought I'd be wearing this coat open on the way home, but it ended up much colder than I expected and even rained a bit.
I was glad of the suede. My legs were rather chilled in the silk, though - brr!

Accoutrements and stuff:
I was surprised that I hadn't worn these sandals at all in 2024.
  • Scarf - Ralph Lauren, consignment

I think I just needed a bit of a rest to fully appreciate them again, as I loved clomping around the office. That heel doesn't feel high because it's a wedge (wedges are magic).

Gold bling:
I threaded the Robert Larin pendant onto a thicker chain - so much better.

  • Pendant - Robert Larin, vintage 70s, consignment
  • Chain - Monet, vintage 80s, thrifted
  • Mesh cuff - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Gold bangle - thrifted
  • Orange bangle - thrifted
  • Brash leopard ring - thrifted
  • Jade/brass ring - vintage 70s, Mom's
  • Jade ring - thrifted
  • Earrings - consignment

  1. Love those wedge sandals and silk trousers. Such a cool tunic! A keeper for sure. Not sold on sandals and socks currently as only the very oldest ladies with tired feet wear sandals and socks outside here :) I did wear them in the late 80s, funky dotted ones with flat gladiator type sandals. Cute socks though. More difficult for me to get my head around stockings/pantyhose with sandals. Rgds, Lise

    1. Thanks, Lise! Ha ha, I've tried the sock-sandal thing a few times over the years, but it hasn't really stuck - it still feels very "old lady" to me as well. I do like tights with sandals - it has a very 70s feel to me, but you're right, it takes time to get used to seeing a thing, and normalizing it in our brains.

  2. Oh yes, the tunic is perfect with the pants, absolutely, and the combo looks tailored to your frame! I’ve always been a fan of socks with sandals for the exact reason you noted – cold toes are not comfortable! Much appreciating all of your jewelry and I forgot to comment on the Bigass Weekend Wrap-Up my similar appreciation for the jewelry worn on your ‘wee’ ;-) shop.

  3. This outfit made my heart sing, Sheila! Those pebble patterned pants couldn't have had a better companion than that fabulous orange tunic, and the Robert Larin pendant is a stunner!
Such a great idea to ease oneself into sandal season by wearing them with a cute pair of sheer socks. What does the fashion police know, eh? xxx
