Disco Sequins, a Tweed Cover Skirt, and Secret Roses

I arrived back at work, refreshed from my four-day weekend, only to be slammed with over 100 emails, most of them urgent. Sigh. There's nothing for it but to wear sequins.
Disco sequins! They bounced light everywhere, and cheered all of my colleagues.

  • Sequined vest - Nygard, thrifted; last worn here in December 2023 in a preppy outfit
  • Shirt - Eddie Bauer, consignment; last seen here in November under a plaid dress
  • Skirt - Erdem, consignment; last worn here in March with these same boots
  • Boots - Baroque Velasquez, Fluevog; last seen here in March with this skirt!
  • Puffer coat (below) - Donna Karan, consignment; last worn here in November

I have layered this sequined sweater over a plain shirt before, usually with a menswear-inspired tie. I tried a floppy bow at the neck this time, pinned with a brooch.
The skirt is the one I wore on the cover of Tweed magazine last year. It makes me happy and it's so lush to wear - the brocade is thick, and it's such a cool style. I showed it off to colleagues Raj and Cheryl.

The Curse of the Missing Back! I usually wear a blazer to hide this.
I felt good in this outfit, but when I look at the pics, the top and bottom feel discordant. Oh, well, live and learn. It's just an outfit.

Puffa time!
I welcomed its snuggly warmth.

Accoutrements:
I had a rose theme going on - the brocade skirt has roses.

  • Scarf - fake Louis (Lewis!) Vuitton, thrifted
  • Velour gloves - thrifted
  • Beret - thrifted

The stuff:
The boots and skirt are definitely friends - I'll wear them together again, for sure. These are somewhat limiting for styling, as they are very Victorian steampunk-ish, but I still enjoy the over-the-top details.

Rosy bling
Two more roses!
  • Bow - old skirt sash, c. 2008
  • Fur rose - thrifted
  • Silver/crystal ring - Soul Flower
  • Silver/red stone ring - thrifted
  • Silver/red enamel ring - antique shop, Sidney
  • Pinky ring - Dots
  • Rose earrings - Betsey Johnson, swap from Cat

Do you ever incorporate secret elements into your outfits? Little details, just for you?

  1. Okay, since you stated it first after looking at your photos, I feel no chagrin in saying it felt like something was off with the proportions of the sequined top and skirt. I absolutely prefer this gorgeous skirt with a tucked in top that highlights your waist and shows off the full beauty of the skirt. (To anyone curious, click the 'last seen here' link once and then do the same again on the next post and you'll be able to see an example.)

The boots are a beauty! Ah, as for incorporating little secret elements into my outfits just for me…usually that would be jewelry with meaning just to me and nobody else knows that (unless, of course, I tell them, which I always do with Fred :-)) Wearing sentimental jewelry, chosen specifically because of who gave it to me or who previously owned it, empowers me with confidence, and there are times when I need that extra boost!
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. I usually don't say anything when I dislike an element of my outfits, but the proportions are so off here. I did need to tuck the vest, and had forgotten how long it is.
Jewelry with meaning is always a comfort, isn't it? Whenever I need a boost, I'll wear one of my family/friend pieces.

  2. You're right about the proportions, but I love the floppy bow and the skirt and boots are a match made in heaven. But nothing's lost if the disco sequins got you through those 100 emails and made your colleagues happy! xxx
