Bigass Long Weekend Wrap-Up: Friday Phoenix at the Party; Lime Green Vote; Jungle and Silver Hangout

Hello, my friends, and welcome back! I hope you had a lovely weekend and ate lots of chocolate or whatever good things you like. I had loads of fun, seeing friends, getting dressed up, doing all those things that are so needed.

L and I spent a quiet Friday - I worked on my Mom-Day post, and did some mending, including resewing the hem on these flowy green trousers.
I note that when I last wore it, I said I'd stitch it up "next spring." Well, here we are.

  • Sequin/silk top - vintage 80s, thrifted; purchased here for $28.00
  • Trousers - Zara, consignment; last seen here (2nd outfit) in September 2024 under a dress
  • Shoes - Big Presence Desmond, Fluevog, consignment; last worn here in February with the ferry blazer
  • Wool cape (below) - Arola Pirrko Maki, vintage 70s, thrifted; last worn a few weeks ago by my coworker friend Kristina, and last here by me in March at Beacon Hill Park with Mom

I'd had another outfit in mind for our pal Mack's party that afternoon, but after playing around in my closet and trying things on I decided to save that for the next day's shenanigans, and went with what I'd envisioned with this phoenix sequined top since I bought it.
Sorry, blurry. I picked out the bits of chartreuse in the sequins on the bird's tail and on the sleeve and matched these lovely swooshy trousers to them.

The white/grey sequins are bookended with the snake-print shoes. Not quite matching, but they go!
A pop of red in my lipstick, bangle and a dark orange ring for contrast.

A rather low back!
I like the surprise of a back full of tattoos.

I layered my black and cream boucle cape over it - none of my jackets would go over the top properly due to the big sleeves.
I recalled from previous year's parties that it's freezing in Mack's backyard, so I knew I might be hiding under my cape.

Movie Star Wrap returns! "It's top-down season, baby," joked L, referring to having the top down on Vlad the Jag (a convertible) in nice weather.
We were rushing around getting ready, then thought to check the start time. Whoops, we would have been over an hour early! Instead we arrived right on time.

Accoutrements:
More acid yellow/green. Good shoes for a grassy backyard.

  • Purse - Roots 73, thrifted
  • Silkscreened scarf - Smoking Lily, vintage 90s, thrifted

Bold bling:
The earrings worked well with the top, will wear them again with it.

  • Silicon cuff - Materia Design, thrifted
  • Faux cinnabar bangle - consignment; purchased here for $22.00
  • Silver earrings - gift from Petra
  • Steel/Lucite ring - Calvin Klein
  • Silver/crystal ring - Uffizi Gallery gift shop, Florence

L looked excellent and sufficiently eccentric in his vintage train-themed shirt, orange khakis and homegrown vintage Fluevogs.
A jaunty hat adds the right vibe.

We walked up to the suspiciously quiet house...but there was no one in the yard, no screaming kids, no balloons...and then Mack came out. "Hey, you guys, the party is TOMORROW afternoon!"

Whoops, I added it to the wrong date in the calendar, then never confirmed it! Unfortunately, we had plans on Saturday afternoon, so we ended up missing the party entirely!

Since L and I were starving, we went to the Monkey Tree Pub and demolished a giant platter of nachos before heading home and playing more boardgames and listening to music for the evening. Not a total loss!

We were up early on Saturday to get our vote on in early voting for the federal election. Must do our civic duty.
I like to dress up for the occasion (shocker), and wasn't sure if we'd have to wait in long lines.

  • Jean jacket - Ricochetjackets, consignment; last worn here (3rd outfit) in February with camouflage
  • Tee - Run the Jewels merch; not tracked
  • Suede skirt - Kelco Leather, vintage 70s, thrifted; last seen here (2nd outfit) with this same jacket in November 2024 for brunch and a wee shop
  • Boots - Slacker Vagabond, Fluevog; last worn here (2nd outfit) in December 2024 with pinks and greys

Bonus - there was no line at all! So I basically wore this outfit for an hour.
It's still a good outfit, and I've worn this jacket/skirt and boots together before in various combinations, so I'll surely wear it all again.

I was pleased with my new-to-me green belt.
It tied it the whole thing together!

I didn't take the jacket off at all, but I did wear my Run the Jewels tee in the evening, and slept in it.
The skirt and boots (and jean jacket) all stay out in my closet all year round. They're too good not to keep out.

The jacket is clearly the star.
Or is it the boots?!

Done up for the short walk.
I like having my light-coloured Smoking Lily scarves out again.

Accoutrements:
My bestie Janet gave me this scarf as a bridal shower gift in 1997.

  • Purse - thrifted
  • Silk scarf - Smoking Lily, 1997, gift from Janet

The stuff:
The hot weather of a few days ago had disappeared entirely. No rain, but lots of clouds and wind.

Bold bling:
My classy elastic band kept the tail of the belt from flapping around.

  • Belt - consignment; purchased here for $28.00
  • Leather/brass cuff - thrifted
  • Studded leather wrap - Kipling Leather, thrifted
  • Brass leopard ring - thrifted
  • Gold/amethyst ring - Frances Jewelers, c. 1965, Dad's
  • Turquoise ring - Karen's
  • S pendant - UK, c. 1995, gift from Mom & Dad

On Saturday afternoon, I knuckled down and worked on my Art Project (L's BOC jacket) for about 3 hours - it's all a surprise now for L, so not sharing any pictures until it's finished! It felt good to work on it!

One sneak peek of me working out on the deck:
So much subterfuge!

For our traditional long weekend gathering, I wore the outfit I'd originally envisioned for Mack's party. L and I walked down to Christie's Pub to meet up with our friends (aka our Chosen Family) for bevvies, food and laughs. Much love to all of my dear people - it fills my cup to see them.
My silver dress makes an appearance, paired with my new-to-me green leather vintage boots.

  • Bomber jacket - Adidas, consignment, Vancouver; last worn here (2nd outfit) in September 2024 for brunch with my boys
  • T-shirt - Denver Hayes, thrifted; last seen here in February with a fancy jacket
  • Dress - H&M, consignment; purchased here for $35.00
  • Boots - Bandolino, vintage 80s, thrifted, Sidney; purchased here for $49.99

Despite the mild weather in the morning, by afternoon it was chilly and very windy.
We sat out on the patio at Christie's and despite the heaters going full blast, I was freezing.

This thin Adidas bomber jacket was not warm enough!
I layered a half-slip under the dress, as well as the t-shirt, both for coverage and warmth.

Without the jacket, so you can see how it fits.
Very silvery, especially in the sun! I like the slinky cut and how the knit is shaped in the bustline.

Incognito.
I ended up with my scarf on the whole time.

Accoutrements:
Happy to have my mermaid scarf back in the mix.

  • Leather purse - Michael Kors, consignment
  • Silk scarf - Valentino, consignment

The stuff:
The boots were fantastic to wear, although I still want to put some inserts in them to make them less flat inside.

Green bling:
I didn't have a necklace that quite worked, so I hung the feather brooch from one of my silver chains.

  • Silver/green stone ring - thrifted
  • Coral/olivine ring - Hawaii, c. 1977, Mom's
  • Silver/malachite ring - consignment
  • Brooch - Boucher, vintage 60s, thrifted
  • Silver/malachite bangle - thrifted, Sidney
  • Glass bangle - thrifted
  • Plastic earrings - vintage 60s, consignment

L dressed wackily both for voting and for our hangout at the pub.
Wearing his new Fluevogs for the first time. We had Cat and Ross over for a game of Arkham Horror, followed by hilarity of Cards Against Humanity, and laughed and hung out till the wee hours.

I'm off now to enjoy two quiet days of hanging with my guy. I hope you had a wonderful weekend, my friends, and thank you so much for joining me here.

  1. It's nice to know you had a nice mostly quiet weekend. Happy Easter Monday. I really enjoyed your outfits. I always love to see green. For me green is such a spring colour. The matching green belt and boots outfit was fun. I also really like the one with the long silver skirt and a floral bomber.
    L is very stylish, too!

  3. Oh no, I can't believe you turned up to the party both looking so amazing only for you to have got the day wrong! I'm glad you made the most of it and went out for food rather tan go straight home.
The sequined cocktail top looks incredible and its always good to see that fabulous suede skirt. The vintage boots pick up the banana leaves on your Adidas trackie top a treat!
    Well done on voting! xxx

  4. Oops about the party! Your chartreuse trousers/sequin top/Arola cape outfit is still my favourite, and I'm absolutely loving L.'s non-party outfit too!
Obviously you needed to dress up for voting, and both your and L.'s outfits are fabulous. I'm sure you didn't go unnoticed, particularly L. with his top hat!
What a great idea to turn that feather brooch into a pendant! xxx

  5. My absolutely favorite outfit is the last one – that slinky silver dress, those fabulous green boots (yes yes, absolutely place inserts to make them less flat, your feet will love you for that), the adidas jacket (who knew I'd be loving adidas when you first started collecting pieces!) and all the accessories. Second favorite outfit is your voting ensemble complete with another super jacket. What I like best about the first outfit are the accessories. :-)

YAY for returning to your art project for L! I eagerly look forward to seeing the finished piece and suspect we, your readers, will not be the only ones eager for the completed jacket. ;-)

L looks rather spiffy in both his outfits; the first one has me placing him at an English garden party. Here's to hanging out with the family you choose at the pub and late night games with Cat and Ross!
    Cheers, Laurie

    1. I am glad I saved that silver dress outfit for my friends, Laurie! They appreciated it too.
Yes, it's getting there - I got a large chunk done on the front and have only two more big sections, and then it's all finishing work, adding shading, metallic and ensuring it all works together. Fun!
      Thanks so much!
